You keep mentioning him, but whilst he's unemployed he's not currently available for work.

“We’ve made a decision to step away from a really good club, so it would be wrong to then jump into something just because it’s available.

We’ll wait. We’ll see what comes along. And when the right opportunity does come, we’ll be ready for it.”

But by then it’ll be too late and we’ll be adrift of even getting a play off spot.
You could argue that both the other teams relegated have had a bigger upheaval’s in the summer yet they are in top 6.
I keep coming back to the fact that this guy has won 4 games in 34.

We couldn’t beat a 10 Barnsley team who’d lost 3 nil the previous week to Plymouth who themselves looked dreadful against us.

The sooner he goes the better because there is no way we’re going up with him in charge.

Or maybe we won't. Maybe the improved attacking performances will lead to more goals which they really should have already. I can't see us changing and when though I full understand doubts re Martin, the background as described does mean we need to give him the time

History suggests we shouldn’t.
Apart from the Southampton promotion he’s a distinctly average manager at best.
We’ll continue to concede goals with him in charge and won’t imo improve.
There’s only so long he can be given.
Promotion this season is a priority and I don’t see us achieving that with him in charge.

Let’s be honest win lose or draw every week we will see the words “…..against a poor [insert] side” written multiple times in a match day or post match thread, it’s lose lose for some posters as if they think the teams prime Man U?

But it is lose, lose currently against the likes of Oxford and Burton. FFS when will these happy clappers come to their senses?

They may as well go and clap the kids on the local park. They might just see a positive performance to clap for.

Us, on the other hand...

What have you seen to suggest he’ll turn it around?
I fail to see how someone who hasn’t been able to beat Notts County, Mk Dons, Burton and 10 man Barnsley can realistically turn it around.
Add to that the thrashing at home to Oxford.
As usual with these clowns it was completely the wrong appointment.

Also look back at his previous tenures. Most glaringly at Rangers where he lasted 12 games. We've all seen how big a failure he's been, at every club, and yet there's those blinkered fools that still believe he will be our Messiah by both the board and those in our stands.

He will be an abject failure wherever he goes, even in the minor, insignificant leagues any country you choose to mention.

And which bit of our history suggests a mid season manager change is a good idea?

I don't see anybody thinking he'll be the Messiah.

I'm just suggesting that while our defence is still awful our attack is getting better and maybe we'll pick up when the team settles down. Also maybe we won't. But it's actually kinda fun seeing so many chances in a game. Been years since we saw actual chances

We as "astute" supporters and with a reasonable degree of football knowledge, having experienced the highs of PL champions, FA cup winners and the season of the great escape, shouldn't blindly accept that this is as good as it's gonna get.

Those that do are fools and will clap as the ship sinks. Because they're "the true fans".

Any manager coming into this environment would struggle. Complete reset and new mindset is needed. It doesn’t help when the board want to sell the club. Management is the same across all industries, bad eggs and culture makes change difficult. The club is going through a reset, be patient

Wasn’t really an issue for say Chris Davies at Birmingham or Barry-Murphy at Cardiff

What?

So you're defeating your own point?

Firstly, our attack is not getting better, it's stagnant. We have no direct outlet to the front 2 as long as we keep playing across the defence and midfield. Yes there's the occasional ball over the top but we have no-one with the experience or ability to take advantage in the way that Vardy did so many times.

As you say our defence is weak and under coached. They can't deal with balls being played out from our joke of a keeper and then play back across the back three/four that are then exposed as soon as the opposition press forwards and then panic and lose possession.

As long as this man is managing us, we will achieve nothing. You only have to look at his CV.

O’Neil.
Clearly different circumstances but a brilliant appointment.
Also very unpopular on here but Puel was the right choice at the time.

And we've scored what, 3 goals?

Chances mean Feck all unless you score from them.

I think you're away with the Cornish Piskies :D

With more time in 24/25 he just unraveled further. Rangers was less clear cut but the defence got worse with time too.

You're putting words in my mouth.

Our attack is getting better. You just need eyes to see that. We've created lots of chances recently. Coaches can't account for individual finishing errors.

Also, our defence isn't really weak and undercoached. Our defence is simply at high risk to ball turnover. It's the tactical flaw in Martin's plans. He's betting we can beat the press and score more than we give away.

He'd have gotten away with it recently if it wasn't for those pesky kids. Oh, er, I mean poor finishing.

Tbh I'm starting to think the attack and midfield is developing quickly enough that we'll at least end top 6. I realise that's not exactly borne out in results so far but I'm saying that I'm seeing evidence of improvement in a young and new team.

Feel free to disagree, I'm not declaring I'm right, I'm just saying that's what I think I'm seeing.

Can we move away from absolutes and everybody thinking their view has to be right?

O'Neil slightly different in that MM left and we were already top of the league when he left from memory.

MON got abuse that year when we ended not top.

Puel yeah he did okay, funny one that one but okay.

So given MON actually took us down the league, you've found one in about 30 years of management changes.

Maybe I am, but you can't blame coaches for players missing sitters.

Think about it.... When was the last season you remember thinking we had enough chances to score 4 by half time? On that basis alone it's fun.

Rolling xG is the sort of niche stat i'm fully invested in.

O’Neil overall got us up and kept us there while winning 2 league cups and finishing top 10 four times so I’d say that’s the right decision overall.
But that’s still 2 managers who improved us.
You asked for managers in our history.
There are many who have improved other clubs when a managerial change is necessary half way thru a season.
Russell Martin will not be a success here.
O’Neil was on the up as a young manager and Puel had done well with Southampton and in France.
What is there to suggest Martin will turn it around here?
4 wins in 34 games doesn’t give me any confidence.
Martin’s arrogance doesn’t back what he’s actually achieved in management.

There we go - there are multiple Dave Challinors so surely we could get one of them?

Maybe when it’s occasional but when it becomes a pattern they can.

5th for expected goals scored and 12th for expected goals against despite the fact that 4 of the 7 games have been against 2 promoted teams from the 4th division and 2 that finished below 15th, it really isn’t that great

The point of the question followed discussion of the need for promotion this season. So the challenge is to find a management change that has resulted in either staying up when we wouldn't or in-season improvement.

MON was fantastic but that season we went down not up after the change, you can't point at other seasons here I'm afraid.

All I've said re Martin is that I think the are some green shoots but haven't claimed to be'correct' he's a good shout.

Yeah what do stats mean, I got a new one I have just seen actually that may surprise a few people

first half 5th in the league

second half 24th do you think the manager should take any responsibility for that?
