For those saying, it’s only two games we must give him more time, this is an entirely reasonable position. It appears ludicrous to call for any manager’s sacking after two games. The problem with this position is it implies he is going change his approach. The stats against him turning it around are however damning. The stats actually support what we already know, Leicester aren’t struggling to execute Martin’s possession game. The problem is that possession isn’t translating into sufficient attacking threats while defensive errors are being brutally exposed. The passing star are what we are all seeing. Okoli and Souttar, completed 179 passes between them. That’s a huge amount of possession in areas that weren’t hurting Burton.

There is a huge difference between control and effective control.

Leicester: 74% possession → 13 shots → 3 on target → 1 goal

Burton: 26% possession → 13 shots → 6 on target → 2 goals

Okoli who is by far the worst passer in the team laughably completed the most passes in the game and Souttar was second at 83. Lots of control of the football without control in the dangerous areas of the pitch. The most telling statistic for me is therefore not 74% possession. It’s: Leicester had nearly three times Burton’s possession and yet Burton had exactly the same number of shots and twice as many shots on target. And we were 2–0 down while it was still 11 v 11. For those calling to give Martin more time, what do you suppose he is going to do differently to turn things round, genuine question?

How do you know?

So you don't think the like of Skipp, Okoli, Souttar, Thomas aren't letting us down and haven't been for the last 3 season?

I know because it’s the same thing he does at every club. I know because he’s done interviews staunchly defending his ideas, but is much quicker to criticise his players. I know because you and I both know he’s not going to change the style of football so again - why are you debating this like you think he will?

Criticising the players is one thing if you as the manager are doing the right things, he isn’t and won’t.

Did you actually listen to his post match interviews or are you going to just make shit up?

20 seconds into his interview who says, I have to take responsibility as the manager.........

'I have to take responsibilty' is a common thing massive frauds say, especially when their track record is just doing the same over and over again.

He's probably thinking ' i need more experience in there'. Or, 'if only we could retain a little more possession, then they wouldnt have been able to score'.

Dodged the question, are the the players not letting us down?

Is he right or wrong?

So if you are a crap football manager and say you take responsibilty you are a fraud?

It could he's just being honest but also not very good?

The issue we have is that he has an evidenced track record of not changing his approach a single bit. So the centre backs will be passing between themselves until he is sacked.

I don't know he did chuck a CB upfront for the last 15 mins, which is more NP style then RM.

I wonder what platitudes the opposition manager will say to stroke his over inflated ego?

Paul Warne: “Russell Martin is an amazing manager at this level! “

It's the inability to mix it up that's the issue really isn't it, we're going to have most of the ball regardless of who manages us, but it's being savvy enough to know when to move it quicker and we just aren't doing it

This is part of the reason I'm not 100% convinced it is solely down to Martin. If you have any professional pride as a player, at some point you say "**** it", spot a run from a winger and smash the ball up to them to see what they can do, regardless of manager instructions. Do we really think the players are so scared of Martin they dare not go against his apparent wishes?

Or like you said, just move the ball quicker because you have an urgency to try and win. It's not walking football after all, and these are all allegedly professional players we employ.

Martin has said that the only reason he's in management is to play this style of football, he isn't going to change.

"I played in teams who were dominant with the ball and loved it. I also played in teams who didn't have much of the ball and hated it. My style is probably shaped by that and the teams I've enjoyed watching play football like Barcelona, Manchester City and Spain. I've tried to replicate that at the level I'm at and with the players I've had. If I didn't do that, I probably wouldn't have gone into coaching or management."

I agree.

But depends on how fit he is, if the medical team have said he's good for 60 minutes and you play him for 90 in a losing cause with 10 men and he gets injured, what we we say than.

I would say we should have another striker.

But shove a CB upfront so we could go long in the last 15 minutes?

Issue is, with these types of manager, they call you out for this and you get dropped if you dont follow the plan. This only works if the whole dressing has completely lost the manager and he has no control over the dressing room.

If I were him, I’d be banging down the Sporting Director’s door and making it crystal clear.  Having a successful season depends on this - moving on certain players and bring in reinforcements

Thomas, Skipp, Okoli, Souttar and Reid should all be on the list. All up for sale. We've done it with Mavididi and Faes, they are out in the cold. Yes it leaves the squad thin but we must have targets — get what we can and reinvest. Even if some of them are loans. Who cares.

We need togetherness. Players 'desperate to be here' as Martin himself says. So cut our losses and ACT.

You cannot have players who aren’t fully committed bringing down the mentality of a young squad that actually wants to fight and play for the shirt.

Minimum requirements:

2 CBs

A physical, brave CM who wants the ball and can drive us forward

Another striker

The next week defines our season.

Minimum before the close of the window.

True, but I suppose it depends on the characters: If doing those things gets the wins, it makes it much much harder for a manager to drop you. So it suggests they'd rather play than win, which again speaks to their mentality and being in "self-preservation mode" rather than caring about results and the team.

don't worry Russell, you won't be in coaching or management for long then. career is over when he leaves here and already counting down the days to it

Martin on taking off Bristric🗣️ ‘Admir's not a guy who's going to head it, it's not his game. His game is to run, to be powerful. I'd love to keep Admir on, but we're down to 10 men. He's run very hard and I don't think he's ready to play for 90 minutes

My biggest hatred for him is the signing of Cullen.

I have seen absolutely zero evidence that he can impact a game.

Mavadidi is dreadful now, but at least once a game he can create a chance for himself or a teammate.

Martin signing players on how they performed for him several years a go is a real issue.

Burns can’t beat his man, Chaplin is injured and nobody has a clue when he is back.

He wants to play this system and I get that from

his point of view but until we get two new centre backs he can’t persist with it.

You just know ; the opposition will over hype him; Gary Bowyer did it to great effect and he totally dominated Martin ball..

No way are we moving on any more than 1 or 2 players and that will most likely be Mav and Faes there is only like 7 days left can’t see much changing at all.
