Former Leicester City set-piece coach Andrew Hughes has landed a new job in football after joining La Liga giants Athletic Bilbao.

Hughes left City last week following the appointment of Russell Martin. The 48-year-old spent two seasons at the King Power Stadium after joining in 2024 from Norwich City to become part of Steve Cooper's backroom team.

The former midfielder was also part of Scotland's coaching team under Steve Clarke, replacing Austin MacPhee, who joined the Portuguese national team staff. Hughes was at the World Cup with the national team as they crashed out in the group stage.

Finally things are starting to look up. Did we manage to get any compensation for him. Just asking.

Doesn’t say what job he has ‘landed’ though.

Judging by our set pieces the last few years, id say bin emptying operative would be ideal.

Pointless nugget of info, but looked to me like Steve Morison (from a distance, wasn’t 100%) was part of the first team coaching staff yesterday. Led the little huddle they all did at the end of the warm up and was sat on the bench.

Looks like they’ve brought him into the coaching staff as another set of eyes.

That's got to be good. His playing experience in League 1 and the Championship is extremely useful, but his Coaching background and Managerial experience with Cardiff and style (very direct!), should prove invaluable, IF (big if!) Martin IS trying to move to a 'Plan B' approach, with less possession and more direct play.

Perhaps his appearance on the bench yesterday, further supports the view that Martin COULD be changing!?

And a long background in working with Academy and Loan players, could prove very valuable in the situation we're in this season.

Or could be that the club are taking control of the situation a little bit more?

Heard he was telling the management that you can’t play on broken strings

According to Wikipedia.

He is and has been since July.

Lcfc website and Transfermarkt says the same.

Makes sense for him to be involved in coaching too though.

Good mates with Russell, been loan manager since July. Perhaps taking on a dual role to try and help Russell out of another tight spot!

Exactly my thinking. We might have to credit someone (Martin or McCarron - depending on who took the decision), to bring in a Coach with experience of a more direct style of play, for First team work.
