And your last comment is exactly why we could be picked up in a similar 'show biz' deal - we ARE a known quantity, we do have the 7th biggest social media bit in england, we aren't just an ordinary provincial mediocre club.   There's no greater example of the "romance of fan culture and British football" than 15/16.  And thus why we ARE still a big draw to potential investors, probably why the valuation is unusually high for a L1 club. 

 

Not that we need celebrities to transform us into something interesting, 15/16 has already done that.  If you look at the club as an outsider, investors who haven't been polluted by the local toxicity - there's a lot to be said for us a cheap purchase with great possibilities.

Within this country, we are seen as an unfashionable, provincial side as there is a fascination with sleeping giants or what happened prior to the PL (football existed before 1992 etc). The latter point is a sentiment I agree with. But it is also the reason why Sheffield Wednesday are considered a sleeping giant, Forest and Leeds think they are massive etc.

 

Reality is, the global markets, such as America, don’t even know who these clubs are or give a crap. Those clubs haven’t done anything is decades and either then, minor league cups. 
 

We are much more known and appealing to those markets but that luxury might start to wear out now due to the collapse and the time that is starting to pass.

Modern statisticians looking at social media data don't arbitrarily look at simply follower counts and leave it at that. Generally speaking, people very rarely un-follow something they've followed. That's fair enough, no doubt many have forgotten why they even started to follow.  But given the power of social media, having a pre-established following of 25M is no bad thing. It's a figure that money can't buy - any new owner will come in with a view of being in the PL, if they achieve that, it's much easier to get the attention of those already following than to try to gain anywhere near that many new followers.  Proof of that is, despite all the media focus, wrexham still only have 1.5 million followers on instagram.

 

Also, if you look at the figures from 2023-24 (see link)  we still ranked 11th in england, with +2.2M new followers in that period.   So maybe not as silly or make believe as you think.

Sure, the recent performances have not helped, and figures and popularity are beginning to drop - they can't afford to stay out of the news long - but even the double relegation has kept us in the public eye.

But yeah, we are the ultimately bipolar club rather than being bland.

 

Ultimately we are a lot more relevant than clubs like Forest.

I don't think we'd have sunk like we have and you'd think we'd be a bit more prudent but if the helicopter crash hadn't happened I'd imagine we'd basically be Everton or something. Bobbling about 14th in the league sacking a manager every year, bringing in another uninspiring name just on a loop

Ignore Whelan altogether, she was here recently enough to not be seen as someone who would have done things differently.

 

As for Vichai, we’d probably have sacked Rodgers sooner and not basically delegated the running of the club to Rudkin. Them two steps alone would have at least massively delayed our demise.

They can't change a name (in this country), and they'll be limited as to what could be re-named in this country.

They own 10% of Leeds so easy enough to offload.

The point I guess I'm making is that, due to 'the rules' in this country, I don't think it fits RB's business model to purchase a club out right in this country.
