My initial thoughts were I don't mind it. People are scarred so instantly think any experience is bad, but he does offer something a bit different. Can imagine him being Albrighton-like.

But it does depend on terms and length of contract.

Again, I don't hate the signing in isolation, but we seem to be stockpiling attacking midfielders when there are still a few pretty obvious gaps in the squad.

Work colleague is a Ipswich ST holder and has nothing but good things to say about the bloke. He and many Ipswich supporters view was, that when he signed that extension the other month, fans were happy to have him as back up and seemed a sensible move. 

 

Premier League standard (albeit lower half, but still!)

 

He's now going to be playing in League One - i think he will be really good for us.

 

I understand we won't ever sell him for profit, but ultimately i couldn't careless, get us out of League One and thats a good return on his investment.

 

Ayew and BDCR didn't come with glowing references.

As an Ipswich season ticket holder I can confirm the affection we have for Wes. 

When he was subbed at about 70 minutes (to allow McAteer on) on the last match he was given a standing ovation by the whole ground.

That's true, but realistically the odds are that he will likely not be the player that people think we are signing that was tearing it up 3/4 years ago. Our own recent experience tells us that players on the wrong side of 30 who come back from a serious knee injury, don't tend to be anywhere near the player they were pre-injury.

 

He'd be a lovely bit of business without the injury hanging over him. I'd say there's an extremely low chance we see the Wes Burns that was tearing it up for Ipswich in league one. A high chance we see very little of him or we see yet another player who's not able to contribute. Especially as the ACL will hamper most of his better qualities which involve running like a lunatic.

I immediately thought of Albrighton, although if you ask West Brom fans they'd tell you he was utter dog shit when he went to them on loan.

A speedy and tricky winger who likes to cut in. Has a telepathic knowledge of where Chappers will be.

He is well over his ACL injury now. A player that leaves it all out there. You wont find him hiding. Gimme the ball and let me show you what I can do. If you dont give him the ball he will go looking for it.

For me - we need another striker and centre half through the door and would have preferred we spend the ££ on them two positions rather than right wing and no100

Fast, pacey winger with a good cross and a hard shot. More of a traditional winger rather than the modern trend for inverted wingers. He will look to beat his man to the byline and get a ball in the box. Faster than most players at League 1 level. Decent enough goal scoring record, especially in League 1 and a very good relationship on and off the pitch with Chaplin. Almost telepathic those 2. If the aim is get out of League 1, he's a great pick up (unless you get fleeced on massive wages or fee)

 

His usual goal is arriving at the edge of the box and smashing the ball like it wronged him in a past life,  back across the keeper into the far corner.

 

However he scored his sensational trivela goal in the previous promotion which was frankly absurd.

He returned from his ACL injury early in late December last year and played 18 times for Ipswich in the second half of the season. McKenna generally preferred him to McAteer. He's regarded of an excellent example of modern ACL rehabilitation. 

 

Obviously we're all a bit traumatized by the club's recent record of recruiting senior pros, but let's not try to paint Burns as some hopelessly crocked has-been when he clearly isn't.

Assuming Skipp is still here at the start of the season that is and if he is gone that we won't have brought in a replacement.

I've never thought of him as a 10, think he will be a 8 or 6 long term.

So we won’t see much of Alves, Hutchinson , Evan’s, Carr or anyone else that have offered a bit of excitement this preseason. Great stuff
