Totally agree with your first sentence, particularly impressive given some were saying they expected Plymouth to do well this season. I am interested in seeing how Kamari and Lundstram fit in. Maybe Page, Braybrooke and Kamari against weaker opposition and Lundstram at DM with Page and Braybrooke further forward against stronger opposition.

I can negative, but to be fair, we are 10th in league one, what is going in the right direction? We certainly haven’t appeared to go in the right direction for 2 years, I’m allowed to be negative and I admitted I got this one wrong.

Of course mate. I hate the ownership and hate where we are. it’s difficult to sometimes find the positives.

If we were first I’d be happier, still be in league one though . So yeah, won’t be letting them off on a forum just yet. I think my negativity is justified and have admitted if wrong.

English Tax and quality in his position being lacking in the premier league (elliot Andersons transfer fee) and I can totally see a premier league team going all in for 30m in a years time if we get promoted.

Bowen was getting double figures for Hull and still only went for just over £20m. Bellingham went for £25m, suppose he plays more of a similar position.

Don't get me wrong, without context the fee for a League 1 player is absurd.

 

But if (monumental 'if' by the way) he has the sort of season he is capable of and wins the league 1 player of the season award as an 18 year old then everyone is going to want him. £30m wouldn't even put him into the top 25 of the highest fee paid for a teenager.

We just sold Monga for £10-12,5m - THE elite talent in our academy who is in the PL history books and had many more first team starts/apps in the PL and Championship than Page and was sold to the country's arguably biggest club - and all at a younger age! 
I know it's a different financial climate and PSR/SCR situation to just a couple of years ago when we sold Barnes & Maddison, but still. These were proven English talents with caps moving into their prime and with a great PL record to boost. To think Page would command such a fee - again - with our club situation in mind, is just utopian.

Yes, but players that can play 6 comfortably, progress the ball, break lines and can cover ground, are going for bonkers money now. Lots of numbers flying around but its reasonable to believe United bid £15m for Page. Arsenal are monitoring him. I think there are a lot of scouts who look at his profile and see huge upside in a 30m investment. 

 

There are not many players in world football who can do what he can do and that scarcity is driving top clubs to pay insane money for players two years ago who were at most 50m buys. It's not unreasonable for the club to bank on promotion and cash in when premier league or european super clubs come sniffing.

I think people need to really calm themselves down and wait and see how he actually does this season. 

 

There's a balance to strike between being excited and optimistic about our young players and then being so wildly over the top about them that expectations and demand soar to fairly toxic levels.

 Until we rocked up I don't think any League One Player has fetched close to 15 million never mind 30.

Manchester United made a 'very big' transfer deadline day offer for one of their targets but missed out.

Manchester United had a 'very big' offer for Louis Page rejected by Leicester City in the dying moments of the transfer window, Foxes manager Russell Martin has revealed. Speculation surrounding the youngster's future intensified throughout Tuesday afternoon. United had been linked with the 18-year-old for several weeks, with Martin having previously confirmed that an initial bid had been knocked back.

Page had featured in Leicester's previous two matches, catching the eye with his displays. United ramped up their pursuit on deadline day, though a potential deal was complicated by Leicester's League One fixture the same evening against Plymouth Argyle. Despite the swirling speculation over his future, Page was named in the Foxes' starting line-up and laid on an assist for the opening goal in a 2-0 victory.

Speaking following the final whistle, Leicester boss Martin shed light on the events leading up to the match. "The owner was here today [and] we sat in the office and received a very big offer from Manchester United," he said.

"Myself, Jon [Rudkin] (chief football officer), James [McCarron] (sporting director) and the owner, Khun Top, sat in [the office] and he said no.

"It would have been so easy for him to sell Louis and take a lot of money. But he didn't. It's a brilliant thing for us. Louis, you can see the level of quality and potential he possesses is amazing.

"He's really helped us since coming into the team. Him and Sammy [Braybrooke] have an unbelievable connection and we have to build around these young guys. I'm really grateful that he's still here."

Reports emerged suggesting that any potential agreement could have included a clause sending the midfielder back to Leicester on loan for the season.

LeicestershireLive reports that while no precise figure for United's final bid has been confirmed, speculation suggests the total package may have reached as much as £23million.

And that is why United decided to pull the plug on a deal, though they could revisit their interest in a future window given Page's huge potential.

No but everyone else is doing it and making money. Sooner or later United have to wake up and see that they can't close the gap to Man City and Liverpool while they behave like morons in the market. 

 

You'd expect them to be improving since Omar Barrada went there.

I think they will be looking at the money Man C and Chelsea make and thinking they can do the same.

18 Years Old with massive potential, wouldn't be walking into the first team would he, and they do make a large amount of money from Academy graduates.

 

Would be a gamble paying out 23 million (albeit, I imagine there are a lot of add ons there that would not be triggered without success)  on Page as they would need to see a big improvement to get a first team player or a profit out of him granted, but then I guess that's why they've halted their interest

Morgan Rodgers, a star performer in his prime for a Europa League winning team and a star-studded England squad? A transfer between two top half PL sides with top managers?

It's not at all comparable to an England youth international with around 20 professional starts in the second and third tier. Yes, he was recognised by the EFL last season, but let's not kid ourselves. It's completely unreasonable to expect a £30m fee at this stage, even if we do get promoted.

We sold Monga for £10-12.5m and he's barely made any impact on professional football. We sold him because of his incredible potential. Man City got him for a cheaper price because they're betting that he'll grow into a top class player. At the end of the day, he's got all the ability in the world but he's still got the body of a child.

 

I think we've seen that Page isn't the same. He's already got the strength and pace to get away from players. I am saying that if he has the season we know he can have (we've seen his ability) then he'll be wanted by a lot of clubs.

 

I think Louis Page will start a Premier League game before Jeremy Monga does. Simply because of the difference in athleticism.

 

If rumours were to be believed Man United were ready to spend ~£15m on him and offer us a high sell on fee and a loan back yet we turned it down.

 

We don't have to pretend to be humble about his worth or imagine a world where he's sought after. We've seen his ability, we've seen his leap in physicality and we know full well that top clubs are looking at him.
