We've had an enormous turnover of players, a change of manager and are playing against a team on a high infront of the biggest club they've played a league game against in years, of course it's going to be a tough game. 

 

It's going to take at least 10 games for it to properly gel and we still don't have the right players in at centre back to play the way that the manager wants to play. 

 

I agree with that entirely. I think it's alright to say it was crap and a bit worrying though.

 

A lot of people who had formed an opinion of Martin based on years of seeing how his sides get along were suddenly 'converted' by a few decent pre-season results - which I thought was a bit fickle, and I said at the time that one solitary league game tells you a lot more than all the friendlies combined.

 

I also made the point that to judge a manager on one, two or even five, six games is hasty in the extreme. So long as we understand that all forms of fickleness, positive and negative, are unhelpful (because those who whip their cocks out after a few pre-season games are very, very prone to leaping to other silly conclusions) then I'm with you.

 

I expect things to get much better than that, so won't get too excited either way for a good while yet. And, of course, one win, and suddenly we'll be a shoo in for the title again according to some.

Alves was decent but faded in the second half. Braybrooke was, I thought, largely anonymous in the first half but a lot better in the second though he really needs more time on the ball than I think he's likely to get.

The gamechanger for me were the subs. Theirs came on and made a difference, ours came on and we seemed to lose shape and purpose.

 

I think we should be concerned about the manner of play. We simply don't have the players with he skill level to play this short passing game. We could easily have conceded 3 or 4 today.

Our goal was a good one. The pace at which we moved the ball was good and the link up play excellent and the finish top draw.

 

But we move the ball too slowly. I wasn't impressed by Burns but to be fair we didn't pass the ball quickly enough to him.  generally we were too ponderous and delayed passing until it was too late.

 

We desperately need a ball winning midfielder and generally more physicality in the side. Every side we play seems to be stronger and physically better than us.

 

The keeper looks like a bomb scare.

Reid needs to go he's useless. The whole defence looks as if it could concede at any moment.  Early days but the experienced players brought in don't look to have added much but let's see over the next few games.

 

Right now I'd guess this team finishes anything between 12th and 18th. We need a few out and a few in which could make a difference.

 

The fact we barely did anything positive after we scored is also a concern.  

Burn won’t see much of the ball until they get rid of Skipp.  He’s happy to break up our attacks by passing all the way back rather than use his eyes and turn his body and then unable to make any impact when defending.

 

You would think Burn pinging them into the area for the new striker should be a solid tactic.  Reid can’t play for us again. 

 

Remove Thomas and Skipp and the wingers get the ball quicker.

Alves, Braybrooke and Joseph the best players on the pitch. Alves's energy and ability to beat him man was standout. Each of them showed they had the physicality to deal with the demands of this level.

 

So its Souttar, Okoli and Thomas, who are all horrible, all for different reasons. Skipp woeful. The interplay between those 4 was like watching school kids. Bobby completely ineffective. I thought Burns and Cullen were average, and offered far less than our own youth players. Would have sooner seen Carr, Hutchinson, Ochere, Evans etc our there. 

 

As for the Keeper - where the heck have we dragged that one from? 

 

cannot believe Otchere has gone on loan, judging by today.

Skipp with the ball at his feet is one of our biggest problems. How many infer hit passes? He doesn’t set any tempo either. Just extremely one dimensional. I would like to see Braybrooke in there.

Reid and Cullen are way too similar and  I know people are saying  a better team puts us to the sword but Reid had  4 chances and squandered them all!

Alves, Joseph and Braybrooke had good games and if Martin had any bottle he would have kept the likes of Carr, Neale and Otchere around the first team squad 

 

Mccarthey is a bomb scare keeper and no improvement on Stolarcyk, so a complete waste of of a signing.

 

Notts County ran hard and competed but were gifted so many chances by us.

So we don’t have the cbs to play his style of football, but are going to persist with it anyway? What’s the point waiting 10 games to gel when there’s nobody in the spine of the team that can play his way. It’s pig headed shite and if the highest paid manager in the league (probably) can’t adjust then he’s a shit manager. You don’t need a weatherman to tell you it’s pissing it down

What’s worrying is the negatives weren’t a surprise but another manager repeating them. 
 

He can realise Mav is shit so dropped him, hopefully he does the same to Thomas or it’s more of the same.

Small sample size and didn't see him going forward at all but initial thoughts on Howell were positive. 

Likewise Watson too who I thought showed a threat. Hampered by having Thomas behind him

Thought we was lucky, They should have definitely scored more then 1, we are going to be conceding a couple of goals a game if we insist on playing out from the back with players that are incapable of passing the ball 10 yards

Pure insanity to keep doing something that clearly, definitely, without any shadow of a doubt doesn’t work. Same ridiculous “style” of play that doesn’t generate many good chances, but does for the opposition. All teams have to do is press and force mistakes. And yet, for some unfathomable reason, we keep doing it.
 

I’d love to know what kind of conversations take place when tactics are being discussed. Are there arguments? Is anyone at the club trying to batter some sense into proceedings? Or, are they all in on it? Some kind of long form prank on the fans maybe?

 

A tiny part of me hoped that relegation to league 1 would be enough to force change. But nope. Same stupid, pathetic system, same poor mentality, same lack of aggression, same lack of physicality, same stupid mistakes you can see are going to happen 5 seconds before they do. The odd great goal that you just know is going to be cancelled out by Defensive Cockup No. 5621 later in the game.

 

We are the most pathetic club in existence. Embarrassing on all levels.
