Apparently the song was written about when Paul McCartney and John Lennon used to hitch hike to the Isle of Wight in their school summer holidays to visit Paul's cousin and her husband who owned a pub in Ryde called Bow Bars. The change of spelling from Ryde to Ride was a pun! The pub still exists but is now called the Liquid Lounge. 'Ticket to Ride' certainly gets 'em rocking down here on karaoke nights!!
