lookwhaticando Posted 3 January 2007 Posted 3 January 2007 Well from what i read on the net there is no need for another EGM "The long, drawn-out process which has been frustrating for both parties, is now set to gather pace as it enters the finishing stretch. The Mercury understands there will be no need to call another extraordinary general meeting to rubber-stamp the takeover, which means delays should now be kept to a minimum." Question is who do i believe more Foxestrust or the mercury As the Trust stated above, if enough support for the bid is noted officially (in writing), the EGM will be a formality. The Mockery article says essentially the same thing in less detail, I reckon.
Phlashman Posted 3 January 2007 Posted 3 January 2007 Watford won't sake Boothroyd. Unfortunately for us. Boothroyd > Dowie. What we all need to do is all start pretending to be watford fans and go to their matches and start Boothroyd out chants.
Matt Posted 3 January 2007 Posted 3 January 2007 WOOHOO, Think i'm gonna celebrate tonight! Mind you it does seem more certain now but how many times have we heard - "he's expected to be in by [such a date]" or "He'll be in within 2 weeks" so at the moment i've just got that at the back of my mind but as I said it does seem more certain and more of a done deal now...Please I can't be arsed with it taking any longer!
Babylon Posted 3 January 2007 Posted 3 January 2007 Poster - Soho Some questions you should now be able to answer: 1. Is it true one of the non-exec Directors, James Johnson a solicitor from Messrs Clifford Chance (one of the biggest law firms in the world - if not the biggest) has resigned in protest at the final offer from MM? 2. Has the Board recommended or will the Board recommend to the shareholders that MM final bid is accepted? 1. Yes, but the reasoning may relate more to not being comfortable with Q2, as in recommending 2. We believe they will, but nothing has been received as of tonight A major couple of points here. I wonder if he resigned because a) The offer was so bad. b) He didn't want to be seen as being on the board when it gets rejected. c) He isn't comfortable recommending it because it's such a poor bid. d) He isn't comfortable recommending it because he believes his job is to get the best deal for the shareholders. I really wouldn't get too excited just yet.

I really wouldn't get too excited just yet. I think it's come down to the fact that, Leicester have almost little choice of accepting as they are desperate for cash due to being in the shit. If MM has got the board and shareholders over a barrell, it's not surprising some might be a little upset. But it probably comes down to, if the shareholders don't sell up then they'll be looking at administration and their shares will be worth nothing anyway and they'll lose their money and the club. Or I might be talking bollocks.

'Gary Coatsworth went in to see Brian Little for his end of season talk/ appraisal buoyant by the fact that he has had a bit of a run in the side decided to ask for a pay rise.(earning peanuts at the time) Littles response; "Gary, there are players who come in here and have me over a barrell and can demand anything........and then theres those who come in here who make demands and I have them over a barrell" After a few silent moments Gary left saying "ok boss have a good summer"

Leaves me wondering who of BL's players was good enough to have him over a barrel though, not likely to be Carey,Philpott, Mills, Oldfield, Thompson, Blake, Platnauer,Whitlow or Grayson !
sackmycook Posted 3 January 2007 Posted 3 January 2007 Question for FT What will happen to the FT once MM takes over, do you have any say anymore in any matters regarding the club?

Fox in a Box Posted 3 January 2007 Posted 3 January 2007 By Bill Anderson It has been a long, hard road but it now looks as if Leicester City are finally heading for not so much a new era as a new Milan-ium. New players will now be on the way as Milan Mandaric is set to be in control before the end of the January transfer window. His arrival should spark a complete change in outlook, in the atmosphere around the stadium and, most importantly of all, in the dressing room. Even in their Premiership bonanza days, City were always the poor relations. Yes, their wage bill was high, but no more than average for the top flight, and their record buy is still the £5million paid to Wolves for Ade Akinbiyi. Persuading potential recruits that the club were going places has always been difficult, but now everyone can see that a new energy, backed by long-awaited financial muscle, is on the way which should stimulate the players already here. A glance at the league table is not a pretty sight with City in 18th spot, but it is a matter of putting across what can be achieved from here on in - maybe not this season but certainly the next - as the carrot to dangle in front of the transfer targets Many fans will have asked, not without reason, why the takeover talks took so long. Everyone knows that when lawyers get involved, things are never rushed because getting paid handsomely by the hour is hardly a cattle-prod. The Mandaric takeover first grabbed the imagination in mid-November when it was revealed the day after a heartening on-the-field success against Stoke City. The pleasure of that victory was increased by the prospect of millions of pounds at last being pumped into City. However. it was never going to be as simple as Mandaric walking in with a suitcase full of £25 million in cash as the deal comprised several elements, such as the £17million still owed on the stadium, payments to shareholders and outstanding debt. The process was not helped by some behind the scenes at the Walkers Stadium. A leak from "sources close to the club" suggested the deal was in trouble. Whether it was apprehension about their own positions, or wanting to keep the club home-grown, it does appear that Mandaric has now been accepted by all. But throughout the stumbling blocks, one man stood firm, Mandaric himself. It is known he could have gone to Wolves in the blink of an eye. The Molineux club were keen to smooth his path by removing most of the legal wranglings that City got entangled in. There must have been times when he felt frustrated, unwanted even, as the scenario unfolded, but he has proved his commitment to City's cause by not walking away, especially when due diligence threw up the issues it did. He wanted City and the fans want him which makes everyone a winner. So we are now in the final stretch of a drawn-out affair which started in hysteria, cooled as the legalities took hold, before the initial wave of optimism re-emerged. There might be some who point out that no-one has yet signed on the dotted line - "many a slip and all that" - but they are the old City. The new one is almost upon us.
James. Posted 3 January 2007 Posted 3 January 2007 That is perhaps the worst headline of this century. Truely dire. Having said the article is not much better. and still we moan. this is GOOD news. as in not BAD news which is what we have been hearing far too much of over the last few years. so what if the article is w&nk, the main thrust (apart from up mandaric's backside) is that we are moving in a very welcome direction under a proven leader. hurray!

Let's hope he doesn't go back to being a mardy old twat and patronising our fans again. I'd say the whole £25m thing and the 'he could have gone to Wolves but he loves us so much' thing is pretty patronising. Will be interesting to see how he justifies himself if the deal goes through when MM doesn't put in £25m.
harpendenfox Posted 3 January 2007 Posted 3 January 2007 I'd say the whole £25m thing and the 'he could have gone to Wolves but he loves us so much' thing is pretty patronising. Will be interesting to see how he justifies himself if the deal goes through when MM doesn't put in £25m. My guess is it'll be along the lines of....... "previously unrecognised debt has restricted the amount of cash MM is able to give manger AN Other....." That said, it might not be such a bad thing if we're restricted to say, three million pound players in central midfield, right wing and up front. I don't think wholesale change will help, and I still believe that a core of Hendo Stearman MacAuley Kisnorbo ?????? ?????? Weso ?????? Porter Hume Fryatt/????? should have the ability, if properly motivated to move us forward
Ric Flair Posted 3 January 2007 Posted 3 January 2007 I'd say the whole £25m thing and the 'he could have gone to Wolves but he loves us so much' thing is pretty patronising. Will be interesting to see how he justifies himself if the deal goes through when MM doesn't put in £25m. I think Anderson thinks that once the ground is paid off in x amount of years it will be seen that it was Milan's money that paid it off and that's included in the £25 million! Quite a bizarre way of looking at it, but it could technically be true.
mancunianfox Posted 3 January 2007 Posted 3 January 2007 and still we moan. this is GOOD news. as in not BAD news which is what we have been hearing far too much of over the last few years. so what if the article is w&nk, the main thrust (apart from up mandaric's backside) is that we are moving in a very welcome direction under a proven leader. hurray! I was moaning about the (lack of) quality of the journalism, not the bid. We are not yet under a new leader and as such are not yet moving in a new direction. We can also only speculate as to what this new direction is so it is therefore impossible to determine whether the new direction is welcome. I am very optimistic about what this takeover may bring but I am still taking into consideration that a) I know that the bid hasn't yet been accepted by the shareholders and that b) I don't know the full details of Mandarics plans for the future of Leicester City football club. These should also be considerations that a professional newspaper should make as well however the Mercury seem to be content with counting their chickens before they have hatched, printing stupid headlines like 'Its a Deal' when it is in fact not yet a deal.
Louise Posted 3 January 2007 Posted 3 January 2007 I think Anderson thinks that once the ground is paid off in x amount of years it will be seen that it was Milan's money that paid it off and that's included in the £25 million! Quite a bizarre way of looking at it, but it could technically be true. I think it's more like he's saying that MM is taking over the club, so therefore taking over responcibility for the debt, so therefore taking on £17m+6m(eventually) for the club and a bit more to settle other debts and signing/loaning players, so then '£25m bid' could be technically true, even though he probably won't pay off the stadium, and he will be using loans rather than investing his own money.
Ultra Posted 3 January 2007 Posted 3 January 2007 Bill Anderson is to journalism what Josh Low is to football. I have my own theories as to why he, the Mercury, and East Midlands Today are so eager to serve Mandy. Billy's agenda/brief is quite clear - to force through a deal before James Johnson returns from Oz and starts spilling the beans about the true nature of Mandy's bid. But no matter how front-page splashes the tabloid decides to run (and notice how the one yesterday made NO mention of the boardroom split), some of the shareholders may be unwilling to accept an offer in which, according to some reports, up to NINETY per cent of the value of their holdings could be written off. Even supposing that Mandy's tactics succeed, and he is able to process the takeover, his conduct throughout the last three months will leave many fans far from convinced that he is a fit and proper person to run our club. Will he provide money for new signings, or merely seek to underwrite the club's debts and let it borrow more? I doubt whether the bank would let him go for the latter option, but it appears to be the one he prefers. And will he dispense of Rob Kelly's services or seek to retain them? Judging by his statements to the media, Mandy has confidence in RK and will therefore presumably have stuck to this line while soliciting support from shareholders. But has this position changed? How long will it be before Mandy realises what many of us already know, that RK is out of his depth as manager of Leicester City? Meanwhile it has also been suggested that Mandy has been eyeing up the millions to be made from selling off the Belvoir Drive training ground. However that option was examined four years ago during our time in administration. It was rejected because Leicester City Council let it be known that NO planning permission would be granted to developers to build on this site. Sources at the council have confirmed this week that this stance will remain unchanged for the foreseeable future. So if Mandy wants to ensure a decent return on his investment, he will have to do what other sugar daddies have done, namely dig into his pockets, which will be well filled due to the efforts of his Russian friend at Pompey. First of all he will need to bring in a new manager and coaching staff, otherwise he won't be able to attract the quality players that we need. Secondly he must provide the wherewithal to allow the manager to carry out the necessary overhaul of the playing staff and recruit replacements who are capable of taking this club in an upwards direction. Finally, in the event of promotion, further funding would clearly be needed to consolidate our position and he would need to ensure that they would be available and spent judiciously. But if Mandy considers the above scenario and decided it requires too much commitment fromhim at his stage of life, then maybe he isn't the messiah that some on here imagine him to be.
