Geoff Horsfield Joins LCFC

Recommended Posts

Leicester City today (Wednesday) completed the signing of Sheffield United striker Geoff Horsfield on loan until the end of the season, subject to FL paperwork approval.

The 33-year-old former Fulham, Wigan, Birmingham City and West Bromwich Albion hitman becomes Rob Kelly's first capture of the January transfer window, and will be available for Saturday's Championship clash against Luton Town at the Walkers Stadium.

Horsfield has scored an impressive 105 goals from 235 starts during his professional, and will bring a wealth of experience to the Foxes squad.

City boss Rob Kelly said: "We have been after Geoff for a while, but we have not had the finances to do the deal.

"He gives us something different up front. He has a physical presence, experience and knows the division.

"He's not played for a little while, so we will need to get him up to speed. But I think he will be a good addition for us."

Having began his career at non-league level, Horsfield finally got his big break when he signed for Fulham from Halifax Town for £300,000 in 1998.

The Barnsley-born centre-forward hit 22 goals in just 54 league starts for the Cottagers, and that form saw Birmingham fork out £2.25m for his services in 2000.

Horsfield proved to also be a big hit at St Andrew's, scoring 23 goals from 75 starts for the Blues. A £1 million move to Wigan Athletic followed in September 2003, before West Brom stepped in with a move for the striker just three months later.

Horsfield then joined Sheffield United for an initial loan spell in February 2006 before making the switch permanent that summer. A loan spell to Leeds United followed earlier this season, before the player returned to Bramall Lane in December.

The player has been handed the number nine shirt

What a capture!!

Yea maybe what we need, an experienced player, knows what they are doing and plays with a bit of heart which is more than some e.g Andy Johnson and Hammond who cant even control his own legs nevermind the ball. However it is quoted that he is not fit and will need to be "eased" in. Leicester need a quick fix!

Woop first post!

Not unhappy with this. Okay so it's not the most blinding signing in the world, BUT he does give us another dimension if we need to go long ball, which tbh we have lacked.

At least there's someone who can take down Paddy Mac's aimless hoof's!

Give him chance.... He might be good you never know :dunno:

If we give it him in the air he could be ok. Let's hope we don't try and play it to him through the middle for him to chase.

It also seems he's not fit, how long does it take to get an old man fit these days ?

Can't be slower than Danny C, who still doesn't look like playing a full half. At least he's been training with a club, even if he's not been playing.

Clearly his ambition matches ours this time around. Relegation.

You may not remember but he turned down Leicester for Brum some while back because he thought we weren't going anywhere. He was right!

Im happy with that signing to be honest as it gives us that extra option up front. Cant see him starting many games but I think he'll prove to be a good impact player. He's got a decent record at this level so dont see why he cant grab a few for us this season (his record cant be as bad as O'Grady's was for us anyway)
