We really have batted well here. Pitch isn't offering much for the bowlers, but other than the two wickets and dropped catch off Cox down the ground, I can't remember any other chances/big appeals today.

Get a lead of 150 and have 10 overs against them tonight. It's going to be tough to bowl that Surrey side out, but they've been in the field for 2 days so you never know.

Its not just one though is it - Harris, Mcsweeney and Weatherald all playing. Id limit it to certain nations and bring in some sort of draft personally. You could level things up vs the likes of the test ground counties.

And id try and leverage it for some sort of access to the shield.

What leverage is there though? 66 blokes get a Shield gig each round vs 198 here. Plenty go over to Grade Cricket each winter and come back better players.

We also need to remember county cricket is about more than just serving England. It's worthwhile in itself. People do down Championship crowds but they're the envy of the Shield and part of the attraction is the diversity of talent on show.

I'm not sure a draft solves things either? Would you really want the ECB spending cash on a talent pool of overseas players for the counties to pick from?

I think what you're saying is completely fair but its not healthy to have internationals bailing out a lack of quality over here. Counties aren't short of money now, more needs to be done to incentivise local talent development. Weatherald will be taking a decent chunk of cash which could have been spent elsewhere for example. As I say that I do get the need the club has for short term progress as well.

With 18  Counties sides always have scope to blood young players. If your main argument is that OS players take up a place that could be given  to a young player why don't you have the same problem with sides playing guys pushing 40 who are also taking up a place of a young player

Brilliant from the lads this

Hope this does wonders for their confidence, shows them that they absolutely deserve to be here against an unreal line up for County level.

Another 50-60 runs quickly and give ourselves an hour at them tonight. I don’t see a way we lose the game from here so might as well give ourselves the best chance.

I know that we started this season as favourites to be relegated, and I'm ok with that so long as we do what we've done in this match so far, which is to give a really good account of ourselves. I don't think we did ourselves justice against Sussex, but it's been wonderful to see that we're doing our very best, batting beautifully against a Surrey side that has won 3 out of 4 of the last championships and came second in the one they didn't win!! I'm so proud of the way they've gone about it. So pleased for them.

Especially on the first day when people were basically saying Smith and Pope’s hundred have an asterisks as it’s only Leicestershire

That's Cox 5th first class ton and really pleased to see him get it. Has looked a much better bat for us than his record would suggest and think that's because he spends so much time selflessly batting with the tail and salvaging situations when the top order hasn't fired. Deserved this one.

And he's got his highest first class score! It was 124. I know the pitch isn't threatening, but you still have to have the focus and the patience to pull a century together. I'm delighted for him.

Couldn’t agree more. Huge congratulations to him. Terrific bloke too!

Cox with a 6 brings up our highest score against Surrey (was 636) and Eskinazi gets his century too! What a day.

We received little credit for providing England with Broad, Taylor, Gurney, Wright. We are here to put the best team together for our supporters.

Surely a declaration overnight? Or do we go full t20 mode for the first hour?

What a brilliant change it is to see a team that that gives a damn 👏

What's the rules with these subs?

Saw Somerset made 2 subs and a few others have made changes too. Surely they can't all be result of injuries?
