Nice to see a positive season preview from the usually critical cricinfo and a good interview with Wasim Khan in the Observer.

I'd like to see Sykes get a run of games instead on Naik.

Robson

Cosgrove

Eckersley

Pinner

Redfern

Wells

O'Brien

Taylor

McKay

Shrek

Sykes

Freckingham starting whilst McKay gets married.

We're still a proven bowler short.

From what ive seen in pre season they have been grooming Redfern for the opening spot, so top 5 would be slightly different. Also the above team looks massively light on bowling so I would pick an extra bowler instead of wells.

1. Robson

2. Redfern

3. Eckersley

4. Cosgrove

5. Pinner

6. O'Brien

7. Taylor

8. Naik

9. Freckingham

10. Mckay

11. Shreck

The squad as a whole looks short of quality in the bowling department!  Had James Pearson amongst the triallists this week, but not sure if he'd add enough!

Didn't see pearson really but the squad is definitely 1 or 2 good bowlers light, we are going to rely so heavily on Mckay, watched Shreck bowling and he got murdered against Leeds MCCU the other week and he must be about 37 so really he is 5 years past his best.

Talk is cheap, can only hope it's backed up. Sounds encouraging though and that's a start.

Leicestershire win their first first-class game since 2012 albeit against Cambridge University. Still, winning is a habit and it's encouraging that we've steam-rolled a team twice. Hopefully we can take that into the Glamorgan game next week.

Not been this excited for a county season in a long time. Wasim has come in and doing everything that needs to be done imo and I am genuinly starting to believe we will see a big change in fortunes!

Not expecting miracles, I think it will be a shaky start, club will take a few games to settle in to new setup, but I think as the season goes on we will get better and better. Likely to play our best cricket in the one day cup and t20 blast, but I wouldn't write off 2/3 Championship wins.

Glamorgan 102-1 at lunch on day one. Sounds like Shiekh opened really well and caused a few problems, shame Rudolph & Bragg seem to be getting their eye in, need an early wicket after lunch for sure.

Off the pitch sounds like a fantastic success though, over a 1000 people in before 12 o'clock!

All a bit "same old, same old" by the looks of the scorecard. Hope they got a decent crowd through though, would've gone if I'd have been in the area.

Cobb got a second baller for Northants.

Great resilience today in reaching 202/1 against Glamorgan's 513. Just hope we don't collapse first thing tomorrow morning and undo the hard work. The foundation is set to at least match Glamorgan's score. Mind you, it won't help our quest to win games if our groundsmen keep rolling out stupidly flat decks.

Having lost 6 out of 8 home games last season a draw would be quite a decent start, especially if we can take full batting points on top of 2 bowling points, if it's still 3 for the draw then 10pts is not a bad return for the first game. Both sides missing their overseas bowler for this game and probably ability wise the sides are very similar, batting stronger than the bowling attacks.

Somewhat disappointing day given that we started on 200 for 1 and lost our last 6 wickets for about 80 - and that at home against last season's next to bottom side. Clearly going to be no overnight miracles. Still, scoring over 400 not something we often do and 3 batsmen made good scores.

Be interesting to see how the second innings pans out. Will we see a new Leicestershire that ends up achieving a comfortable draw or a familiar scene whereby we collapse in the second innings responding to a large Glams lead.
