See my reply above. He's simply not bowling anywhere near enough overs to be the number 1 spinner. The runs are going to massively help his case for touring, especially in the sub continent.

The comparison and number 1 spinner is Bashir....who doesn't bowl much.

7 other people bowled instead of him, including Patel. Think his 4 day bowling is considered properly part time for now. Nice to see him cashing in with the bat though. Hopefully he can get a big ton before the season is out as that will be a massive boost to his reputation.

Fairly certain someone confirmed that he had a slight side injury, which is why he wasn't bowling.

Yeah Richard Rae said in the first hour yesterday Rehan was playing solely as a batter as he had a finger issue.

Ah fair enough. That would make more sense. Would still say he has bowled a lot less so far then he would have expected, even accounting for it being about the seamers in the early part of the season.

Because 7 others bowled, one of them an opening batsman and several of them spinners. If he's not getting a bowl then, how an earth is he going to push himself into test selection as the spinner ahead of the captain's favourite?

He's got so much potential as a spinner but I'm simply pointing out that despite opinions on Bashir, Rehan is doing absolutely nothing to justify him being England's no 1 spinner atm.

He's injured and only in the team as a batsman according to the commentator.

Lewis Hill quietly accumulating runs and currently averaging 52.

Van Beak joins Holland on 28 wickets. Ben Green 25 at less than 18.

It's such a group effort and today was as dominant as it gets against a form team. It could still go pear shaped but the belief in the squad and confidence to go out and put such a performance in is something else.

He is not bowling atm. Not sue its ability, it’s just the plan due to some injury I think.

Rehan will never be the test teams no.1 spinner imo, we just don't generate enough dry wickets in home conditions to a leggie.

At best he'll be Rashid replacement in the white ball setup and be the future england all-rounder on the sub continent tours.

For what it's worth I don't rate Bashir at all and think he'll get hit out of the attack in the ashes.

Regardless of my opinion its get to see Rehan development his season under this coaching setup 👍

Doesn't seem that arsed about keeping wicket......

As I said if Cox is out Handscomb or Hill are more than capable of standing in, the fact we've done that rather than bring Swindells in speaks volumes, despite you saying Handscomb doesn't want to do it

Big difference  between  doing it occasionally  and every match though

What's interesting is the age spread:

Hill 34

Handscomb 34

Cox 33

Swindells 26

Swindells hasn't broken through and I suspect they'll back the next generation like Maddy, or bring someone younger in rather than keep Swindells about another couple years waiting for the others to retire. Cox was brought in for a reason and that reason isn't that they rate Swindells.

Which is what I said isn't it? That if Cox is unavailable, Hill or Handscomb could step in

I don't think they're bothered about Bashir getting smashed around if he picks up wickets

Cox is available they rested him to help the balance of the side with Rehan unable to bowl. You say Swindells hasn't broken through but he has a similar fc average to Cox and a number of keepers playing first team cricket elsewhere. Would be very surprised if Maddy gets a full time contract

Swindells is 26, hasn't played all season and isn't in the side when the first choice keeper is rested. Writing is on the wall, can't just keep him in the squad for the sake of it.

I was being polite in using the word rested he missed out because they wanted to play a spinner with Rehan unable to bowl so obviously  with that being the case Harry wasn't ever going to play in this game. Don't think he is in the squad for the sake of it he's a better batsman  now then he was a couple of years ago and we are short of numbers in that department if we pick up injuries.Cox also not getting any younger the superb Niall O Brien was released for being too old when he was 35 despite  being one of our best players

I didn't say he hasn't broke through, I'm saying they quite clearly favour Cox, they have other lads who can keep wicket if for whatever reason Cox missed a few games, I just think there's very little need to have Swindells on the books as well

Even start so far..

Probably their morning. Gonna want those maximum bowling points and a 150+ lead if possible. At least there’s something happening with the pitch.

I’d be hoping it’s a bit harder to bat today. Lots of cloud cover and nipping around a bit. Be nice if we can get the 150 lead.

Yes ever since I did that comment we have been losing wickets. Defiantly their morning. Someone needs to dig in a get a 30 here.

Probably not going to have as many on the board as we would have liked but the chances of a Glamorgan win are still very slim, due to timescales- it's stil going to come down to whether we can bowl them out in under 4 sessions.
