Anyone have any ideas on who we may use to bolster the One Day squad?

We'll not have Hull and Ahmed and wouldn't surprise me if Kimber gets a wildcard, especially if he can find one bit knock at his box office pace. So probably ok for numbers if everyone is fit but may be a chance to give some fringe or young players game time? Alex Green seems likely.

Maybe Maddy or Gumbs who've been on trial in the seconds? Not sure any of our own academy players have been banging the door down in the seconds but may be wrong.

A lot will depend on how the next two championship games go I think. If it means promotion, I’d be happy throwing the tournament and playing the youngest side possible to give them some experience.

Good shout, if we had a group of half a dozen fringe/young players the core squad can rotate in and out.

Gumbs

-

Swindells (c)

Maddy (wk)

-

Wood

Walker

-

Green

Everyone else rotates in and out to stay fresh. Should still be competitive but doesn’t risk anyone key being tired for the run in.

Think Maddy and Swindells should both play, Swindells needing to do so well that he's worth games in the run in and a contract next season. Maddy to see if he can basically take Swindells contract as the backup keeper as he's 7 years younger.

If we can win this one, you'd say it's just about done and dusted.

I've lost track a bit of who's going to be missing- Holland, Handscomb, Hull? Guessing we'll line up something like this:

Patel

Budinger

Ahmed

Hill

Masood

Kimber

Cox

Van Beek

Green

Mike

Scriven

The attack doesn't feel anywhere near as strong, but batting down to 11 again.

Based on the last couple of years not going to happen Patel Massod Handscomb Cox Budinger  Mike Salisbury Holland  Wright?  Trevakis will all play from the younger players expect to see Wood and Green can't see anyone else.We have a huge advantage over most sides in not losing many to the hundred  why give that advantage away?

Looks about right, we'll really miss Holland.

I'd swap Masood and Ahmed, think that would lend much solidity to the top 3. Patel needs a knock, he's managed a ton this season but only averaging 20 and no sign of any form in the Blast. Budinger averaging 37 but only a pair of 50s. Need more decisive knocks from the openers. Handscomb, Hill and Ahmed all been going well as the engine and the lower order consistently contribute so think we'll be hard to beat if either opener gets a good score and two draws as a minimum from these two games put us in a good position, a win from one of them and we'll be in serious business.

I suspect you're probably right but it's an entirely meaningless competition now, one step up from second XI stuff so for me better to look at the bigger picture and see if we can develop the wider squad.

Batting line up has been pretty fluid this season, wouldn't surprise me if they switched it around a bit.

Thinking about it, I'd put Wright in for Kimber. Having 5 seamers has made us look so balanced, it's been our biggest advantage.

Don't tell them that down at GR you would think we had won the champions league the way they reacted a couple of years ago

How can any Leicestershire fan say that after what was achieved two years ago?

Can't believe the weird football obsession with finding silverware "meaningless" now extends to county cricket clubs like ours ffs.

I think you have to be realistic, the ECB have ripped the arse out of it and very much devalued it through the scheduling of the Hundred at the same time. They openly talked about it being relegated to "development competition" status so it's not comparable with certain sides in football deciding they're now too big time for the cup competitions.

I don't like what they've done, in fact I think it's a disgrace, and for me a genuine potential pro of dropping some 4 day games would be finding a dedicated window for the one day cup (even better if we could go back to 40 over games too) but as it stands it's a shadow of what it was. Still an accomplishment to win it, but winning Div 2 this season would be far, far more significant.

No reason we can't do both 8 days cricket in August shouldn't be a problem

Agree - I loved winning it because let's face it, I still vividly remember the seasons where we couldn't get a win in the red ball game all season, and our only hope was the T20 and 50 overs competitions, but even as we did, I'd look at the teams the other counties were fielding, stripped of many of their best players because of the 100 or playing second XI/academy players when we were putting out our best XI, and had to admit we were lucky in that regard. I agree it's a disgrace, there should be a proper 40/50 overs competition. The main reason I dislike the 100 so heartily is not the competition itself, it's utterly daft but if it gets people watching cricket - it's what else that has been sacrificed for it, the mucking around of championship cricket and the gutting of the one day matches.

Agreed the domestic cricket season lasts 4 months we aren't in the hundred, the club would mental not to try and be as competitive as possible in all 3 competitions.

So after all that worrying , Handscomb comes back and Van Beek will play. I’d just change Wright for Hull and Wood for Holland unless it’s potentially a turner where you’d bring in Trevaskis instead.

Just for fun. If you could only have 1. Another T20 title or promotion what would everyone rather have? I'd go T20 personally.

Promotion would be good to mixed it with the top clubs, but getting another trophy would be great

I'd go for trevaskis, with the Kookaburra. Spinners often did very well with the Kookaburra last year.

Promotion 100% of the basis we win the league.

Will be very interesting to see what kind of pitch we prepare for this. Will it be a really flat deck, designed with the aim of not losing and thereby allowing Glamorgan to close in on us? Or, with the ball we'll be using and how dry it's been, will we prep a bunsen burner and gamble on Rehan and Trev out-bowling their spinners?
