Craig Posted 30 April 2007 Posted 30 April 2007 Right... I bought a Zen off ebay a couple of weeks back, but it's been playing up constantly, i don't blame the seller though cos it was sealed and brand new, so obviously weren't his fault. However... I requested a service repair thing on the Creative site, they accepted, and told me i had to send it off to some factory in Coaville. So i sent it next day special delivery, to ensure that it was safe () and would get there ASAP, meaning i would get it back ASAP; i need it for work, or it's so boring. Next day... I checked the Royal Mail track and trace service and it said: Come back laterYour item has reached the delivery office and is out for delivery. We can confirm that your item left the delivery office this morning and should arrive shortly if it hasn’t been delivered already. 4 days later, it still says that. And on ringing Creative, they definately haven't recieved it. Royal Mail say i have to wait 10 days to start a compensation claim, but surely if it's meant to be delivered by 1pm the next day, and hasn't arrived within 5 days, i have a right to start a claim now? It's clearly been lost. Anyone else had this happen to them before?
Wils Posted 30 April 2007 Posted 30 April 2007 Thats pretty shit. I orderd a Ipod for my girlfreinds birthday and i got an "Sorry we missed you" note through instead, please contact so and so bllaaah blaaaah shit.
hairy Posted 30 April 2007 Posted 30 April 2007 The f'ers lost my White Stripes tickets once! I was not happy at all. Got them replaced the day before.
syston_fox Posted 30 April 2007 Posted 30 April 2007 I've had quite a few things lost in the post over the last year or so. Our postman quite often doesnt even bother knocking if he has a parcel, just puts one of those notes through the door telling you to pick it up from the post office.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 30 April 2007 Posted 30 April 2007 Serves you right for beating me in the auction.
Daggers Posted 30 April 2007 Posted 30 April 2007 They lose everything at the sorting office - they lost my virginity there once. Just the once mind. *rustle of coat*
Daggers Posted 30 April 2007 Posted 30 April 2007 Wish people would stop there moaning and whinging! It's be a ****ing first if you joined in...
Leicfox Posted 3 May 2007 Posted 3 May 2007 I vote for any government that brings back earlier morning mail. Postman/women, come when they like, 11-15am yestarday, pisses you right off when your waiting for summut and need to go out. Oh and my postie is a women, explains it tbh.
Gav_LCFC Posted 21 February 2012 Posted 21 February 2012 I love it when royal mail open my birthday cards for me. God they offer a good service!!!
Webbo Posted 21 February 2012 Posted 21 February 2012 Ordered something off EBay mid afternoon yesterday and it arrived early this morning. Superb service.
The Doctor Posted 21 February 2012 Posted 21 February 2012 Sent a CD home in January, Envelope arrived sealed but with the contents missing - the only conclusion I can draw is that they opened it, had the CD out of there, resealed the envelope and posted it on. Didn't lose it though, the envelope arrived within a couple of days of posting.
purpleronnie Posted 21 February 2012 Posted 21 February 2012 That's the problem the royal mail are the only company whose employee's arent allowed to make mistakes. I'm sure no-one on here has ever made a mistake at their job.

Many years ago I used to deal with such claims at Royal Mail & compensation used to be 100 times the cost of a 1st class stamp. I believe this is still the case. I don't know what a 1st class stamp is worth these days, but if it's 41p, you can claim up to £41........sent in the ordinary post or Recorded Delivery. Special Delivery is treated differently. It is always worth getting a Certificate of Posting if you intend sending anything you would want to claim against, should it become damaged or lost. If you send something worth £10 - they will pay £10. If you send something worth £100 - they will pay £41. If it's worth over £41, send it Special Delivery. They will not compensate at all if you send cash, unless you send it SD. I can tell you that very little is done investigating your lost item.......if anything at all. What they will do, is make a record of all such instances & if there is a trend - it will be investigated further. For example, if a number of items seem to be going missing on your delivery round, it will be flagged. Dummy items may be sent through the post to see if they reach their intended destination. Sackings are not unusual & they always prosecute. If it is not reported, Royal Mail will have no idea there is a problem. It is impossible to keep track of all the mail they deal with on a daily basis, but they will help you wherever they can & I always thought their compensation policy to be reasonably fair.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 21 February 2012 Posted 21 February 2012 I love it when royal mail open my birthday cards for me. God they offer a good service!!! Are you sure it was us? You don't live in a prison perchance? (On a more serious note, the number of letters (not just cards) that come through that patently haven't even been sealed in the first place...) ****s sakes Trav. That's the problem the royal mail are the only company whose employee's arent allowed to make mistakes. I'm sure no-one on here has ever made a mistake at their job. Exactly. I must deliver over 1000 seperate items a day and to my knowledge rarely deliver anything to the wrong address. My (and most other postmen's I would guess) successful delivery rate must be something like 99.99%. I'd like anyone to say that they do their job with less mistakes.

I've seen thousands of letters that have been through franking machines.........that have no address on them at all. Are they now considered 'lost'?

Ilkeston_Fox Posted 22 February 2012 Posted 22 February 2012 I've got to be careful what I say here being as I work for Royal Mail. I know it doesn't help the OP much but the reason you have to wait 10 days is, to give the item in question to show up on the system if it's put in a wrong bag. Unfortunately you don't get to see exactly where the item is, well not to the same detail that RM do, hence why it's not been updated on Track and Trace. If's it's not been put in a wrong bag but been labelled wrongly or with a vague/wrong address it can take longer to get there (not 5 days though). If there is no address on it whatsoever (sticker/label fallen off - happens all the time) then it goes to Belfast to be opened to ascertain where it's going and where it's from. If this is the case then that can take up to and over 2 weeks. RM lose over a million items a year, but when you think they get more than that a day, it's a tiny sum in comparison, I'm not making excuses for RM as I know they are far from perfect, but honestly guys, they piss over any other service you'll get and they are a damn sight cheaper too. If you want to PM me your tracking number and a phone number for you pal, I'll have a look on the system and see what I can find out for you.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 22 February 2012 Posted 22 February 2012 Random and pointless fact. My first night in London i was given a royal mail shirt by some random at a pub.

Aye, I sent it normally though - there's no recorded delivery or anything - it's just my word v theirs should I want to do anything.
lavrentis Posted 22 February 2012 Posted 22 February 2012 I've never had a problem with Royal Mail, my postman back at home was a bit of a twat but he got his job done and was never late. Never liked the guy but he was reliable, used to wear shorts in the bitterest of winters.
Zingari Posted 22 February 2012 Posted 22 February 2012 I've never had any problems with the post either . The only time mail seems to be "delayed or must have got lost" is when someone claims to have sent me a cheque . Strange that only letters with cheques get delayed and lost in the post , all the other junk seems to get to me ok
pSinatra Posted 22 February 2012 Posted 22 February 2012 Aye, I sent it normally though - there's no recorded delivery or anything - it's just my word v theirs should I want to do anything. I appreciate it is 'your word against theirs' & that is why I always thought that they were were reasonably fair with their compensation policy. They won't call it compensation - they will call it a 'gesture of goodwill'........that they are under no obligation to do so. It's a lot stricter than it used to be - I think since the proliferation of eBay & such like. That's why I suggest always getting a Certificate of Posting for anything you would want to make a claim if it is lost or damaged. It's not essential, but it would help. A Certificate of Posting doesn't prove what the item is, it simply proves that you posted something to a particular address. It's worth having a look at their website to see what their procedure for lost mail is. Claim forms are available from Post Offices. I would suggest it's worth a try.......you've got nothing to lose? In a couple of weeks, you may receive a cheque to the value of your lost/damaged item?
Alexikokopops Posted 22 February 2012 Posted 22 February 2012 I've never had a problem with them, and I also live a 2 minute walk from the sorting office for when they put one of those "Sorry we missed you" cards through the door. Lovely stuff
