Wycombe Fox Posted 25 May 2007 Posted 25 May 2007 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/i...als/6690471.stm Similar to being 'pulled off' at half-time!!!
James. Posted 25 May 2007 Posted 25 May 2007 I've had more than enough of McClaren. He heralds a new era by dropping Beckham, trying to make a point that life's going to be different under good old Stevie Smug Face then gives us dismal qualifying performances only now to go back on his original intentions by recalling him. He should never have been dropped from the squad. Maybe the team. What has exactly has changed under McClaren, at least we won qualifying games with Sven.
davieG Posted 26 May 2007 Posted 26 May 2007 From sky David Beckham has been welcomed back into the England fold for the upcoming games against Brazil and Estonia. Steve McClaren's first act as England manager was to cast the former captain into the international wilderness, but Beckham's excellent form for Real Madrid has seen him handed the chance to add to his 94 caps for his country.

This will be a great cameo role for Beckham before he goes to Amercia.
Joe. Posted 26 May 2007 Posted 26 May 2007 Seems fairly pointless to me unless he's actually going to start. Once he goes to America, the door should be firmly closed for a Beckham return to the England squad.
Simi Posted 26 May 2007 Posted 26 May 2007 Seems fairly pointless to me unless he's actually going to start. Once he goes to America, the door should be firmly closed for a Beckham return to the England squad. Exactly. McLaren gave into the pressure from the media and fans. He made the decsion to drop him, he should of sticked to it. Is Lennon out of the next two games or something? I heard he got injured last night..
Joe. Posted 26 May 2007 Posted 26 May 2007 Shorey and Bentley also included too... McLaren just cannot handle pressure from fans and media. He's definitely too much of a 'Yes' man and the FA knew he would be from the minute they hired him... <_<
Stevosevic Posted 26 May 2007 Posted 26 May 2007 HAHA Mclaren staying strong what a stupid appointment he was, i think everyone could see it wasnt going to work out.

MPH Posted 26 May 2007 Posted 26 May 2007 Seems fairly pointless to me unless he's actually going to start. Once he goes to America, the door should be firmly closed for a Beckham return to the England squad. beckam even said today that they play less games in america than in spain or england, the season is shorter and they get more time off. we have people flying over to brazil for matches who play in england ( further away to fly then what beckam would have to) so why not beckam coming from north america? and as for maclaren giving into the media as some people have mentioned... i see an england team struggling right now void of ideas and creativity.. creativity WAS one of beckhams strong points.

Anyway, here's the BBC link http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/i...als/6694743.stm
Koke Posted 26 May 2007 Posted 26 May 2007 Where is Rooney? Injured? EDIT: Just seen he is suspended.

lildave3 Posted 26 May 2007 Posted 26 May 2007 Why is Dyer still in there? And do we really need 10 midfielders? Pointless. Don't agree with Beckham being in aswell.
lildave3 Posted 26 May 2007 Posted 26 May 2007 http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?hlid=4...cks+for+England Worthy of another thread? No. Stupid decision to bring him back anyway.
Bryn Posted 26 May 2007 Posted 26 May 2007 Full England squad to face Brazil and Estonia: Goalkeepers Robinson (Tottenham), Carson (Liverpool), Green (West Ham) Defenders P Neville (Everton), R Ferdinand (Man Utd), Terry (Chelsea), Bridge (Chelsea), Brown (Man Utd), Carragher (Liverpool), Dawson (Tottenham), King (Tottenham), Shorey (Reading); Midfielders Beckham (Real Madrid), Gerrard (Liverpool), Jenas (Tottenham), J Cole (Chelsea), Lennon (Tottenham), Bentley (Blackburn), Carrick (Man Utd), Lampard (Chelsea), Downing (Middlesbrough), Dyer (Newcastle); Strikers Crouch (Liverpool), Owen (Newcastle), Smith (Man Utd), Defoe (Tottenham). I think he'll play this team; Robinson Carragher Bridge Ferdinand Terry Lennon if he's fit, if not Beckham Cole Gerrard Lampard Crouch Owen I personally think the squad is looking weak in a lot of areas. At right back, left back, left midfield and up front. I think on paper this team looks like it'd work well; Robinson Carragher Terry King Carrick Beckham Cole Gerrard Lampard Crouch Owen But whether it'd turn out quite so good I'm not sure. In my head, there's three centrebacks with Cole and Beckham on the wings, tracking back when necessary. Beckham tends to cross from deep anyway and Cole will probably drift infield rather than getting to the byline, so getting back to cover shouldn't be too difficult. Lampard and Gerrard would both have license to roam forward, with Carrick sat deep looking to win the ball and make the play. Crouch would play as support striker, deeper than Owen as the main striker.
Simi Posted 26 May 2007 Posted 26 May 2007 What worries me is that we don't have an out and out right back in the squad. If McLaren plans on playing Beckham, I think he really needs a right back with him. When Beckham was in his prime he always had Neville to support him. If we play 3 at the back or Carragher at right back Beckham will struggle a lot I think.
Wils Posted 26 May 2007 Posted 26 May 2007 Worthy of another thread? No. Stupid decision to bring him back anyway. Id much rather have him in the squad rather than Downing any day of the week. By all acounts Becks sounds like hes deserved it.
SystonFox Posted 26 May 2007 Posted 26 May 2007 Suspended. good job. no excuses for people to overhype him some more now.
Simon Posted 26 May 2007 Posted 26 May 2007 Would like to see David Bentley play, he's been ace for Blackburn this season. I know he's a right winger but I'm sure he's played left wing before? Certainly would be better than Downing.
