Master Fox Posted 29 May 2007 Share Posted 29 May 2007 Leicester City are planning to appoint a sports director during the re-structuring of their set-up this summer. Martin Allen was installed as manager last week and some of his backroom staff from MK Dons are set to join him. And City chairman Milan Mandaric is determined to give his new boss the right backing. Mandaric said: "This club needs building up right from the bottom and it is important that the manager has the right support behind him. "So we hope to bring in a sports director as well as extra coaching and scouting staff." The role will co-ordinate coaching, scouting and administration, leaving Allen and his staff free to take charge of the playing side. Negotiations are, I understand, under way with a candidate who is at a Premiership club at the moment. Mandaric is also finalising the compensation deal with MK Dons for Allen and those he brings with him. Mandaric said: "This is all the start of a long-term vision for the club, and a lot of work has had to be done to try to put as much as possible in place before the start of the season. "The biggest, most important decision - the new manager - has been made. Now it is time to look at every other aspect of the club so that Martin Allen has the best chance to succeed. "This club has been at a low point for too long. "I am looking far ahead to where we want to go and what will be needed to take us there. "That will mean new people and, of course, new players." Both Mandaric and Allen are away until the weekend so there are not going to be any significant transfer moves until then. Charlton defender Radostin Kishishev, who is available on a free transfer, is the latest name to be linked with City. He joins Arjan De Zeeuw, Bruno N'Gotty, Lee Hendrie and Richard Cresswell in being rumoured for a move to the Walkers Stadium. But Mandaric said: "There is nothing set to be done this week. "But the aim has always been to strengthen for next season and that will be done."
Ric Flair Posted 29 May 2007 Share Posted 29 May 2007 Going to be a fairly boring week then. No transfers. Little to talk about. I wonder whether Joe Jordan will be arriving?

MBK Posted 29 May 2007 Share Posted 29 May 2007 A proper sensible decision. That guy will focus solely on transfers especially getting the best youth around. The manager does the managing! Seriously these director of football etc are the sneak, cheating double cheating bitches you need to get the best players at lowest prices. Dr The Singh Posted 29 May 2007 Share Posted 29 May 2007 I expected this, MA has been said to be lacking the tactical experience or nohow within his management skill set. A director will be a guiding factor, and hopefully make up for those skills MA lacks!!
Joe. Posted 29 May 2007 Share Posted 29 May 2007 Sounds like a wise decision. We've been lacking a scouting setup, something which will definitely prove to be very important.

Simi Posted 29 May 2007 Share Posted 29 May 2007 Jean tigana? Negotiations are, I understand, under way with a candidate who is at a Premiership club at the moment. Joe Jordan was who I thought it would be. Good to see Milan really preparing for the future and being very wise with the way he's doing it all. Dave Basset anyone? Bryn Posted 29 May 2007 Share Posted 29 May 2007 Nah I think MM is too savvy to appoint Pleat, he knows it wouldn't go down well and so far in a lot of ways he's seemed concious of what the fans really don't want.

The Reverend Posted 29 May 2007 Share Posted 29 May 2007 A good move from Milan. Martin Allen i wouldnt think would know our market well enough to get the best, so i think any help would be beneficial. Could also help attract better players aswel. There's not that many Directors Of Football (if its the same thing) at prem clubs so the choice could be one of these ?? Frank Arnesen - Chelsea Damien Comolli - Spurs Nick Hammond - Reading Craig Brown - Fulham

They could be scout, coach, Asst Manager etc.
