Manwell Pablo Posted 8 June 2007 Posted 8 June 2007 Mark Draper is in talks. With who, an Italian club like Barcelona?
The People's Hero Posted 8 June 2007 Posted 8 June 2007 With who, an Italian club like Barcelona? Brilliant! He really was stupid. Good footballer though.
City Fan Posted 8 June 2007 Posted 8 June 2007 Yeah... Neilsen is the only one who will play more than a season at this level - that's what I thought I'd put previously? Oops sorry, Daggers confused me! I kind of quickly scanned your post, then saw Daggers' post. My bad.
teblin Posted 8 June 2007 Posted 8 June 2007 Who's his mates? Whys allen and manderic not there? Sorting another deal?
Leonisco Posted 8 June 2007 Posted 8 June 2007 kit looks different Both the kits we've seen so far have been prototypes, they've yet to decide on the final design.
He's not bald Posted 8 June 2007 Posted 8 June 2007 Whys allen and manderic not there?Sorting another deal? Don't know which looky-likey agency city are using but the're fecking rubbish!
Rocky Dennis Posted 8 June 2007 Posted 8 June 2007 Mixed feelings personally. A bit underwhelmed to be honest, when theres people like Eastwood and Sharp possibly available this transfer seems a bit low key, granted weve got nowt to lose with him being on a free but I thought we were pushing for the prem? Maybe we will also pay decent money for another striker and Cort will be back up? It seems maybe there isnt as much cash flying round as i hoped! I wish people would stop banging on about his £7M Newcastle price tag, that was 7 years ago! Doesnt automatically make you a good player! Didnt we pay £5M for a striker once!! Hope he does well tho, I trust MA knows what he's doing!
He's not bald Posted 8 June 2007 Posted 8 June 2007 no shit Don't want to pee on anyone's chips but if you count up the returned loanees, tranfer listed and the dearly departed against the incomings we are now minus a whole team...that's one hell of a depleated squad!
Simon Posted 8 June 2007 Posted 8 June 2007 I'd say this is a solid rather than spectacular signing. He will score goals at this level if he stays fit- there's no doubt about that. I very much doubt we would have signed him if MA, DM and MM weren't satisfied with his fitness. Yes its a risk, but a calculated one. He could turn out to be a great find. I wish people would stop complaining about the lack of action in the other areas of our team. MA is looking into them and the signings will materialise soon enough- some just take longer than others! I'd say MA will still bring in at least one more striker before pre-season. Although I don't believe that we have nealy as much cash as some people are making out I still believe there will be a couple of big-name (for this level) signings to come in before the start of pre-season. And by that I don't mean spending 1.5 mil on Izzie McLeod (not that I dont think we should go in for him, just that I don't think we should pay that much for him!).
Leonisco Posted 8 June 2007 Posted 8 June 2007 kit looks different no shit Forgive me for thinking that your first post meant you were wondering why the kit looked different. As there have been a number of posts already explaining this, I thought it was unlikely that your comment was just a general statement, but apparently it was, as you're obviously not intelligent enough to add anything interesting to the thread. I didn't think even you would be that stupid, but I suppose I was wrong.

Micky Ruddle Posted 8 June 2007 Posted 8 June 2007 I feel encouraged by this move. Lets just hope he turns into a goal-scoring machine.
Simon Posted 8 June 2007 Posted 8 June 2007 How much have we spent so far? Barely anything. Not sure if Nielsen was out of contract? The point is that we haven't got millions to be spraying up the wall. I'd expect us inly to flash the cash on a few midfielders and maybe a striker. That'll be it.

I don't know frankly this signing disappoints me. Ilic will never happen.
Matt Posted 8 June 2007 Posted 8 June 2007 I'm worried by the fact when I told a Wolves fan of the rumour a few weeks ago his reaction was laughing...However hopefully he will come good here and atleast we paid no money.

It's ridiculous to simply not worry about a transfer fee because his pay is probably a healthy portion on MM's investment. Especially players that seem forever injured. However this news is offset by the fact Barnsley have relegated themselves a season in advance. Hail their new midfield maestro!
Thracian Posted 8 June 2007 Posted 8 June 2007 Allen Running Score: +8.5 ================ Difficult one this. On the one hand a proven marksman at the sort of rate that is acceptable. Allen, as mentioned, does seem to believe he can get a bit of "extra" out of people and if he can do that, an improve on his previous returns then he's drawn an ace. I don't think even exceptional motivational skills and guaranteed to keep a serially injury-prone player fit. But careful use might and for that reason I'll show some faith in Allen's judgement and award him + 0.5. As I've mentioned, age doesn't come into it if the guy has recently shown he can score goals and be better than what we have. I certainly don't feel negative on those points. Another thing that pleases me is Allen's apparent credibility and ability to get people to join us. I know the situation is better for him than it was for Kelly but it does seem that when Allen target's someone he does seem to have enough persuasiveness to be taken seriously. If that's the case it is another benefit of having a good communicator. Even potentially good managers lose something if that cannot inspire people to believe they're good. New total: +9. =========
Maybes Posted 8 June 2007 Posted 8 June 2007 Not the worst or the best signing. He could come in handy and I am prepared to give him a chance
reynard Posted 8 June 2007 Posted 8 June 2007 I hope I will be proved wrong but this looks a bad signing. 2 measly goals in nearly two years by sept this year. a recent injury record to rival a certain morris and not wanted by wolves. Just confirms how much hype can surround players his £7M transfer fee in the past makes £5M for Akinbiyi look good value. The only hope is that he will be fourth choice striker behind Hume and two new strikers who we definitely need to sign. If this is the best we can do then it will be yet another season of watching overrated players pulling on the city shirt and that's if we can keep the guy fit which is not that likely as no one else has managed it. I hope MA and MM know what they are doing here. A 1 year pay as you play deal would have been more realistic.

If you believe there were 4 other clubs chasing him I doubt somehow that a pay-as-you-play offer would have even earned MA a proper conversation wih the guy.
Ultra Posted 8 June 2007 Posted 8 June 2007 I'll reserve judgement. Some deals of this type have worked for us in the recent past (Deane, Ferdinand), while others haven't (Dublin, Blake). I hope next week Allen and Mandaric can take the step out of Micky Adams territory and start spending the money we need to turn the squad into serious top 10 material.
Stevosevic Posted 8 June 2007 Posted 8 June 2007 I think we definetely need to see some midfielders coming in soon, whether they cost money doesn't really matter, there are several quality players out their on frees. Hendrie, Thompson etc... I think we'll see a couple of million pound players arriving before pre-season, thats it though, Mandaric's money will mostly be used on wages as know. Dont expect any signings to be completed this weekend, MA is off to Barcelona.
Lillehamring Posted 8 June 2007 Posted 8 June 2007 Is it indigestion that's blighted his career then. ha ha - i get it....
