Guest Posted 16 July 2007 Posted 16 July 2007 It can be but it can also be a blessing. Look at De Zeeuw, Cov scum came in late and got him. He has now had a training accident and will be out for 6 weeks. He could have been our player. yeah I did have a bit of a chuckle when I heard about that
Ric Flair Posted 16 July 2007 Posted 16 July 2007 If we pay anything over £750,000 for DJ Campbell i'll be disgusted. We go all summer without paying over the odds and then in the space of a week we potentially blow £3 million + wages and signing on fee's on two players, one of who'm is fairly crap. Not much better than Elvis Hammond. Not wanting to sound like one of the goobers who court after Eastwood and Sharp every day, but it does make you wonder???

They haven't played under Allen and aren't use to his style of play, this one is Allens decision so he must see something in him. To compare him to Elvis is harsh to say the least, he scored more last season than Elvis has probably scored in his career. Birmingham fans have spoken very highly of him, and they are not easy fans to please.

I could probabley sleep at night if it was 1mil, but 2 surely we can get something better for that amount of wanger

It's a lot of fookin money to blow on one player, especially given the fact that Mandaric doesn't usually allow managers many big money signings. £2 million could get you a very good striker from abroad, very good. What are his plus points for £2 million? I don't see them. He's hardly teared it up at Brentford or Birmingham.
STUHILL Posted 16 July 2007 Posted 16 July 2007 1.5million can buy you Darius Vassel accrding to the papers today!

In todays climate he is worth more than that end of story. If we turned down 900k for Fryatt who scored nowhere near what he did last year.
Babylon Posted 16 July 2007 Posted 16 July 2007 Someone on TB says... "Campbell is to sign today or Tuesday. City have agreed a basic £1.2m figure with Wolves and Preston for Fryatt. Mandaric is meeting Pete Winkelman today to finalise a deal for McLeod. That's the word from various journo collaegues !"

He's younger! and has a better track record than Dudley who had a slight flurry in League one, no prem goals and a modest amount this year! I would be distraught if we sold Fryatt and bought Campbell and McLeod in. Absloutley distraught.

Fryatt should not be going anywhere and whilst one of DJ or McLeod would be a decent signing we don't need both and I'd rather see the cash saved for wages on some real quality players.

Very interesting, was gutted when i read about Fryatt but then read the last bit about getting Mcleod in as well as Campbell. Still wanted to see Fryatt do well but hey if we get two strikers in and let one go, then I'm happy! Fryatt has potential but is always a risk with this foot problem he has, plus 1.2million for a player who had a woeful season is very good business i think! We kind of know what we might get from DJ, I just hope McLeod can suprise us all and make the step-up with style this season!

That's pretty much what GTFox said on Fox Fanzine, would find it hard to believe personally but I actually hope it's true. I don't think Fryatt suits our team at all and I'm prepared to trust Allen on both Izale and DJ. I think we need more pace and energy up front than Fryatt can offer. Izale and DJ will make or break Allen though in the same way that Deane and Dickov made Adams initally and Akinbiyi broke Taylor (probably the far better example, sadly).
Daggers Posted 16 July 2007 Posted 16 July 2007 I would be distraught if we sold Fryatt and bought Campbell and McLeod in. Absloutley distraught. Are you distraught? Has an owner of a club ignored your pleas? Has a new manager accepted an offer for an under-performing over-rated forward and threatens to replace him with two strikers that actually did the business in front of the net last season?Talk to the show byText: 63344Phone: 09011 30 50 60
Babylon Posted 16 July 2007 Posted 16 July 2007 He's younger! So? and has a better track record than Dudley Really? Fryatt for leicester in championship 10 goals in 53 apps' (41 starts, 12 sub). Campbell for Brum in championship 12 goals in 50 apps' (24 starts, 26sub)

Sounds reasonable as Nob kelly is at Preston now and we know Wolves had an offer turned down before. I would be dissappointed to see him go, but then every player has a price and 1.2 Mill is good business. Would be pleased to see DJ and McLeod here which would probably mean Hume will be played as an attacking midfielder or back up striker?
