Toby or not Toby Posted 16 July 2007 Posted 16 July 2007 Im not making excuses for him, I've gone through his goal scoreing record with you I don't remember once making an excuse for last season. I'm giving you reasons not to sell him not excusing his poor return last season. I've always said one good season does not make a good player, and vise versa one bad season does not make a bad player. I think he will turn it around, he's a good footballer and he can finish. Agreed, he is an intellegant player who i like, when fit he wouldn't need pace to still produce a goal.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 16 July 2007 Author Posted 16 July 2007 Similar goal scoreing record? Fryatt hit 20 in half a season in league one and half a season in at this level Izale's not managed more than 17 in a entire season outside of League Two. Fryatt 27 goals in 70 appearances, McLeod something like 36 in 94 by the looks of things although McLeod had more playing time as Fryatt was sub a fair bit at Walsall to start with. Their goalscoring records at League One level aren't the most important thing to me, I was just saying that McLeod scored goals at that level as well. He may be unproven at this level but so is Fryatt. I wonder how many fans would still be supporting Izale if he'd scored 10 goals in 53 games in 18 months time.

None... because he isn't the great white hope.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 16 July 2007 Author Posted 16 July 2007 None... because he isn't the great white hope. But he has got a black mark against his name?
Manwell Pablo Posted 16 July 2007 Posted 16 July 2007 None... because he isn't the great white hope. No, none as he's crap and has a shit touch he's just strong and fast which are two pretty useless attributes if you don't score goals see E.Hammond. Fryatt is 21, has had one bad season, cleary has a good technique and a good football head on his shoulders I don't think it's right he's being hung out to dry after one poor season. If he goes to Preston you will see the Richard Cresswell incident all over again.
Ric Flair Posted 16 July 2007 Posted 16 July 2007 Still not convinced, there are far better strikers out there for less money.
Babylon Posted 16 July 2007 Posted 16 July 2007 If he goes to Preston you will see the Richard Cresswell incident all over again. What move to Leeds fail and get relegated
Daggers Posted 16 July 2007 Posted 16 July 2007 I don't think it's right he's being hung out to dry after one poor season. You are part of a new management team taking over a club - you can only assess players from stats and DVDs. Do you: a) stick with a player that you see had problems last season and may not perform this season? or b) go for someone that is currently poking in goals and that you have worked with before (and rate)? It's a no-brainer.

It's a no-brainer. Allen will know all about Fryatt form his time at Brentford, not to mention the fact he's already said 900k is "nowhere near enough" If Fryatt went for 1.2 million I wouldn't be distraught. It's his replacements that worry me.

Equally, his fitness in the first game against Luton last season (before injuries kicked in) also show a few things and annoyed me intently, particularly as I'd flown in from holiday at 2 in the morning to make the kick off for the new season. It all depends on the fee really. We shouldn't be valuing him at the same price as Izale Mcleod. If we receive 1.3 mill (as the figures bandied around) and spend all that money on Mcleod, then it would be a silly move in my book. If we're getting £1.5 mill with potential add-ons or sell-on fees, then that is too large to turn down. With regards, Mcleod, I wouldn't buy both him and DJ. To me, they are both similar players.

He should be as accountable for his performances as anyone else, particularly someone like Stearman who's two years younger. If anything he gets an easy ride off our supporters.
Manwell Pablo Posted 16 July 2007 Posted 16 July 2007 What move to Leeds fail and get relegated Im sure if he scores over 50 goals in the mean time and is sold on for 650,000 profit Preston wont be moaning.
Daggers Posted 16 July 2007 Posted 16 July 2007 the fact he's already said 900k is "nowhere near enough" MA has nothing to do with the price - this is press pillow talk, no more no less.
Babylon Posted 16 July 2007 Posted 16 July 2007 Im sure if he scores over 50 goals in the mean time and is sold on for 650,000 profit Preston wont be moaning. It was a joke!!! Cresswell failed in the premier for us not this league, Fryatt failed in this league last year.
Manwell Pablo Posted 16 July 2007 Posted 16 July 2007 MA has nothing to do with the price - this is press pillow talk, no more no less. Ohhh realllyyy, I bet he doesn't go for 900k or less. Babs obviously the Cresswell comparison isn't exactly the same as this, the point is I think we'll regret selling him if we don't get a decent amount for him.

I think he's one of those that will either fulfil the potential you see from him once or twice every 10 games and go on to make us regret we ever sold him, or he'll have an average Championship career like a million other strikers. Regardless of what Fryatt does in his career, I think we'd be more successful with Izale and/or DJ because of the way we'll play under Allen and what Allen will expect of all of his players.

He only had DJ for six months remember. And he's not seen either of them at this level. We shall see any way. I hope people are taking note of this, a little a bit of proof that "the inncer circle" (or whatever is it the masses call people who know what they're talking about ) don't all have the same opinions and don't blindly agree with each other.

Milan Posted 16 July 2007 Posted 16 July 2007 Surely it says alot that our promotion rivals are after him.

Milky Posted 16 July 2007 Posted 16 July 2007 Well, getting the leicester shirt signed by Fryatt was a gamble On the goalscoring comparisons, let's not forget that Fryatt has had to play in a struggling side, with a shocking midfield and under Levein, Kelly and of course Merson.

Izale had to do the same at League One level for two years. MK Dons have only been good relatively speaking in the last year. DJ has always had decent service, no excuses.
STUHILL Posted 16 July 2007 Posted 16 July 2007 Ohhh god i don't care anymore!!!! Who ever we sign, whether it be DJ, Fowler, McLeod or hold on to Fryatt, NO-ONE knows how they will perform this season. They could all be crap and make Hammond look good or they could be Championship top scorers!! Who ever we get in I will be supporting to do well this season! It's Milan's money, if he wants to spend 2million of it on one player then let him! Just be happy we ain't signing a bunch of Scottish rejects again!
