Leicester owner Milan Mandaric is ready to offer JIMMY FLOYD HASSELBAINK a £1m payday.

Mandaric has put together a £20,000-a-week package to try to tempt the Dutch striker, 35, to the Walkers Stadium.

Hasselbaink is a free agent after his release from Charlton and is considering offers to go and play in the Middle East.

That seals it.

He's definitely coming here....

for those not 'in the know', this is where MM is building us a secret new stadium-cum-sexatorium.

Last time I checked Jimmy was Dutch :D:D

foreign=unknown=like me. dammit I'd play for 20 a week.

Good we don't need him if he's only after money, would much prefer Andy Cole even though he is rather aged also but still wanting to play football and achieve things. He's been released from Pompey hasn't he? So could grab him on a free?

Leicester City will be out to hit the goal trail at Accrington Stanley tonight - but not through Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

The 35-year-old Dutch international was reported in some quarters to have had a medical check at the Walkers Stadium yesterday.

But City will not be following up a chance to sign him.

The former Leeds, Chelsea and Middlesbrough striker is without a club, having been released by Charlton, and had been offered to City as a possible signing.

City chairman Milan Mandaric said: “There was a chance of the signing but, after discussions with the manager, it was decided not to take it any further.

“But it is still my intention to back him with some more new signings if we can do it.â€

City boss Martin Allen has already signed three new strikers - Carl Cort, DJ Campbell and teenager Ricky Sappleton.

In addition, he can call on Iain Hume, Matty Fryatt and Mark de Vries plus teenager Eric Odhiambo, who is showing promise - so squad priorities lie elsewhere.

Of more immediate concern for City is tonight's Carling Cup first round-tie against Accrington at the Fraser Eagle Stadium, and the visitors hope they do not go the way of Championship side Southampton, who lost 2-1 at Peterborough last night.

Hume hopes it might be third time lucky - and that City will avoid a goalkeeper having a blinder.

The Canadian international suffered along with the rest of City's attack in Saturday's opening-day setback against Blackpool when Paul Rachubka put up the shutters.

That followed on from David James' fine display for Portsmouth in the friendly the week before, and Hume said: “That's two games in a row that a keeper has done that to us, and on Saturday it was very difficult coming away from a game you think you should have won.

“But we need to bounce back and I am sure we will. We had a lot of chances and, if we get half of them against Accrington, we should be fine.

“It is not going to be easy. I have played there for Tranmere Reserves and it is not the nicest ground but we have to treat it in the right way.â€

Hume was left in no doubt on Saturday about Allen's all-out attacking policy especially when battling back from behind.

At one stage, there were three up front with Campbell, unluckiest of all the front men with the break of the ball, joining Hume and de Vries, who is back into the fold and looking stronger and better than before.

Hume acknowledged the value of his colleague, saying: “It has been a tough year and a half for him, and to have come back so strong and fit is a great credit to him.

“He has earned his place after taking part in most of the pre-season games

“He takes a bit of the weight off my shoulders and even in only one game, I think there are signs of promise that we can score goals as a team

I left the flat earlier and thought this was a done deal!

Its important that MA is the manager and is totally in control of player purchases. Its OK for people to make recommendations but MA must have the final say. The whole MacKay thing was a bit of a smelly one because I reckon MA took his advice in buying certain players from abroad like Hellings and Nielsen and the end product is that they arent in the first team!

Its funny if you think about it, some guy who has contacts knows a player is coming for talks, 5 mins later he posts deal is just about done. We then see sky sports news saying yesterday player is here for medical yet it turns out he didnt even have a medical and was sent home and a day after sky sports said he was here. Amazing how the truth bends so much.

Lesson is there is no such thing as closed to signing, until the player does sign anything can happen.
