vanfox12 Posted 7 September 2007 Posted 7 September 2007 I agree with Chris Kirkland. Heskey is England's Didier Drogba. Big, powerful, strong, quick. If Heskey starts he will batter the Israeli defence.I still do not understand the pillorising that Heskey has to endure. He is not a goalscorer, but he adds so much to a team. The thing is when he went to Liverpool for £11m people expected him to score loads of goals but because he didn't he got stick. He used to get loads of stick from Moaning scousers on 606 but on his day he's different class. His main problem is a lack of consistency but then the same applies to all the big time charlies i.e Lampard, Rio Becks need i go on and and yet they still get picked. Furthermore he's won more medals than Our Gary.
NFFC Chris Posted 7 September 2007 Posted 7 September 2007 I'm very pleased about this selection, one of the most underrated players in the country imo!
MPH Posted 7 September 2007 Posted 7 September 2007 if we get promoted whats the betting he will come back to us? that alone for me is incentive enough to get promoted...
jingofin Posted 8 September 2007 Posted 8 September 2007 Yeah, he is starting. It could be considered a shame that we are reduced to recalling a player who usually wouldn't even get into the squad, but, I honestly think this will see Heskey shine and probably see him get his arse back into the right gear. I too would love to see him back at Leicester, if Wigan go down, it would be a very real possibility.
Thracian Posted 8 September 2007 Posted 8 September 2007 great boost for the bloke. He's always been underrated and unappreciated, except by the players. Look forward to watching him and cheering him on in a few hours time - and to him making an impression by way of a goal or assist.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 8 September 2007 Posted 8 September 2007 Do we really need another centre-back in the squad?
Bryn Posted 8 September 2007 Posted 8 September 2007 http://soccernet.espn.go.com/columns/story...008&cc=5739 Won't copy the article into this thread as it is quite long, but it's basically a guy saying (amongst other things) that Heskey's call up is a bad idea, and how he feels that the running of Andy Johnson would have been a better option. Stuff like that irks me. This man is paid to write his opinions down as a professional journalist and as such I feel no reason to respect them. We've tried Johnson (the "brave choice", how the fook would that be brave?), we've tried Defoe, they don't work. We have no presence up front, even when Crouch plays. I think in Heskey is a subtler and more hard working target man who will create more chances but admittedly finish less chances off. How this man can watch England, and then be paid to write about England, then talk shit that's blatantly already been proved wrong is beyond me. I could do better.

Thats the media for you either based in London or the North West.
Tevez Posted 8 September 2007 Posted 8 September 2007 England: Robinson, Richards, Terry, Ferdinand, A Cole, Wright-Phillips, Gerrard, Barry, J Cole, Owen, Heskey.
lildave3 Posted 8 September 2007 Posted 8 September 2007 England: Robinson, Richards, Terry, Ferdinand, A Cole, Wright-Phillips, Gerrard, Barry, J Cole, Owen, Heskey. Good team.
MPH Posted 8 September 2007 Posted 8 September 2007 oh dear... i think its getting to the time for Mclaren to go for the 'trendy baldy' look and start shaving his head...

davieG Posted 8 September 2007 Posted 8 September 2007 Live Chat's where it's at - we've already finished off Mort's pizza
Koke Posted 8 September 2007 Posted 8 September 2007 Emile Heskey Hope he shut up every journalist and radio presenter who are quick to jump on his tits.
Bryn Posted 8 September 2007 Posted 8 September 2007 Good performance. His finishing wasn't great but he never promised that it would be. He is always a presence and he brings so many people into the game. Same team for Russia, no question.
Durnerz Posted 8 September 2007 Posted 8 September 2007 Great performance from the big man. Gareth Barry looked a class act in the middle also, should shut Carrick out of the starting 11.
Webbo Posted 8 September 2007 Posted 8 September 2007 I think all the 2nd choice players were immense today. Same team for Wednesday definitely.
