Flexx Posted 15 September 2007 Posted 15 September 2007 Oh I see... you were just unclear. It came across as fact when you simply state "Good League 1 player", as opposed to an opinion (qualified with "he might be a..." for example). Yeah, sorry was a bit unclear.
Thracian Posted 15 September 2007 Posted 15 September 2007 I find it amusing that a guy who can have such a good game at Palace away should suddenly be a player we want rid of. Apart from us playing him out of position, Porter like everyone else, now has to adapt to a new manager's requirements and if we are going to abandon the passing game which, however nebulous, reflected some promise of general improvement for our team, then I too wonder about the future here for Porter. But if he does become a cast off, either sooner or later, he won't be the only one because virtually all our promising youngsters are good passers and quality footballers rather than hoofers. And I worry now for all their futures. Because, while, to me it would have been logical to pick a manager whose style and philosophy cogged in with the way the youngsters are developed in the Academy, Megson, to me is the last person to favour such an approach.

A lot of people on here are saying we played hoofball. Imo apart from a few occasions (same as every other team) we played passing football, mainly on the ground.

lcfc_thefoxes Posted 15 September 2007 Posted 15 September 2007 There were a good few times last season when Levi had an impact on the game and due to his age, i think he would be worth retaining (prepare for bombardment disagreeing). Most notably fulham was a game where he looked like a promising youngster and there were numerous other matches where he looked capable of holding down our left wing position... Hes just got through his first season and now its obviously going to be difficult for him coming into a completely new side and trying to mantain a position when his time on the pitch is limited. Yes he started today. Yes he didnt do particularly well. However, singling him out is wrong and our other left sided players arent much better. His height doesnt particularly worry me as alot of players do well without being tall I.E Shaun Wright Phillips - Rather than constantly hammering players, get behind them because were NOT in the difficult situation thinks we are in. 3 years was our target... lets stick to it and not go over board. 19th to 1st - 6th is a difficult task, especially with the massive amount of rebuilding we are currently doing.
Daggers Posted 15 September 2007 Posted 15 September 2007 Good league 1 player, Poor championship player. GET RID How could you tell while you were in the art exhibition? Were Porter's abilities depicted through the medium of paint?
Dames Posted 15 September 2007 Posted 15 September 2007 Can't beat his man. Can't play a decent ball. Can't run very fast. Can't head. Can't shoot. Can't cross. Can't defend. Need i say more ? He's useless and unwilling to make the effort so imo we should just get rid.
Flexx Posted 15 September 2007 Posted 15 September 2007 How could you tell while you were in the art exhibition? Were Porter's abilities depicted through the medium of paint? ! nice one daggers, Nah I know because i've seen him play many times before not counting today.

Dames Posted 15 September 2007 Posted 15 September 2007 Is that your expert analysis from today's game? The game you didn't attend... Cheeky... Yeah the can't shoot was from todays game i admit But the rest of my expert analysis was from last season in which i did attend games and i have been saying he's guff from day 1.
Flexx Posted 15 September 2007 Posted 15 September 2007 Is that your expert analysis from today's game? The game you didn't attend... Coming from someone who has never attended a city game.
Hullfox Posted 15 September 2007 Posted 15 September 2007 I thought he was poor today. It's been said before that he was found out last year and i saw nothing today that made me believe he's introduced anything different to his game. On present showing he is a squad player at best but to get rid would be a bit knee jerk at this stage.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 15 September 2007 Posted 15 September 2007 He was really poor today. It depresses me that we've spent millions of pounds on fees and wages on countless new players and yet our left side is still bloody Sheehan and Porter. Neither of them look bothered in the slightest. Sheehan can't concentrate and Porter seems to think he's better than he is. I can't see either of them lasting long under Megson, particularly Levi.
Benji Posted 15 September 2007 Posted 15 September 2007 For me Porter was all about the final ball. Time after time he'd get past his man, be in a fantastic position but then take his pick out of a) making the worst decision in the world or b) hitting the poorest pass/cross you've ever seen. If someone could sort out his crossing more than anything else, he'd be an almost guarentee on my 1st team sheet, but he is so fking frustrating when he does all the hard work and then plonks a cross 20 yards too far or fails to beat the first man. These players are PAID PROFESSIONALS, how the FOOK can they not clear the first man on a corner?
The Reverend Posted 15 September 2007 Posted 15 September 2007 He's got Richard Stearman Second Season syndrome.

These players are PAID PROFESSIONALS, how the FOOK can they not clear the first man on a corner? Spot on. His final delivery was disgraceful. His decision making wasn't up to much either, time and time again he could've crossed it early (but didn't) or play it simple (but didn't) or shoot (but didn't). His corners were hopeless too. Get Ferreira or A N Other in asap.
Dames Posted 15 September 2007 Posted 15 September 2007 He's got Richard Stearman Second Season syndrome. Thing is he never had the good first season anyway. Just 2 or 3 good games.
Geo V Posted 15 September 2007 Posted 15 September 2007 Seemed to lack confidence. Im not one for completely banishing players who are still relatively young but Levi hasn't done enough or impressed enough to warrant a first team place in a Championship club like ours. Maybe he should go the way of Gradel and Dodds and get out on loan but I fear that with players so small, you have to have a unique and above average talent and unfortunately he isn't that type of player.
lookwhaticando Posted 15 September 2007 Posted 15 September 2007 Coming from someone who has never attended a city game. Ouch. Though I don't see how that's relevant in this context, since I've offered no opinion of Levi Porter myself.
Raj Posted 16 September 2007 Posted 16 September 2007 Agree with Benji's points. Although i didnt think he was exteptionally poor considering the overall poor performance yday. Not many players came out of that with much credit did they? Why just single Levi out? WE aint exactly overloaded with players who can cross in the team never mind in that position. I'm sure he will improve....

Therefore having a aerial view of his hairline, and noticing a slight trace of gel, came to the conclusion that it's time to get rid.

Therefore having a aerial view of his hairline, and noticing a slight trace of gel, came to the conclusion that it's time to get rid. Or perhaps it was because he was shite and didn't deserve to wear the shirt on saturday. He seems to think he is billy big bollox, going out partying and pissing what little talent he does have up the wall and pansying around the field without a care in the world. Felt abit sorry for sheehan yesterday having that idiot for support. I hear Accrington Stanley are interested.
Father Ted Posted 16 September 2007 Posted 16 September 2007 I've never personally seen what he can do. He was absolutely shocking today, his height doesn't help either but i'm not blaming that. He gives us no use of the left midfield, where i would like to see Ferreria or Djerzi (spelling) vacate that position, send him out on loan before he gets thrown in at the deep end because it looks that Championship football is too strong for him. Tevez your a hero. Lets all get on the Porter out bandwagon! What really did it for me was where Clem played a kind of bad ball towards him and he just gave up and had a go at Clem. Lazy T*at.
