Wycombe Fox Posted 21 September 2007 Posted 21 September 2007 ...how come the gay community can label an event as 'gay'? Why differentiate? Imagine the uproar if an event were labelled, say, the Heterosexual World Cup or the Heterosexual Olympics. I may be reading this wrong but I thought the gay community wanted to be accepted for the fact that gay people are fellow human beings and not judged by their sexual tendencies. If so why self-label such an event as 'Gay' and promote themselves as being different by virtue of their sexuality? http://news.bbc.co.uk/player/nol/newsid_70...ws=1&ms3=22 Cracking goal celebration at the end.

Im sure there are quite a few gay footballers already playing football but remain firmly in the closet as they know that if they tell the truth all hell would break loose and it would probably make their careers impossible and would ruin their lives as the homophobic football supporters kick into gear with chants or annoying the poor sods in pubs and clubs. Already internet rumours of players like Sol Campbell being gay have caused so much embarrassment and hassle to himself and his immediate family that it has ended up with his brother being arrested and jailed for a year after he had a fight with a uni colleague who was calling his brother gay! http://www.guardian.co.uk/gayrights/story/...1499000,00.html As for the Gay World cup, its obviously an amateur event so its harmless enough. I'm not too sure what would happen if their was a straight World Cup or a Black World Cup or some other minority group but as far as I am concerned, its a harmless event and not one that needs to waste too much energy on unless you plan on participating in
lookwhaticando Posted 21 September 2007 Posted 21 September 2007 Do you have to prove you're gay before you can play? Similar to that gay bar that banned straight folk... how do you check to make sure you're only letting in people of the homosexual variety? What if David Beckham turned up... would he be allowed to play? How about Ashley Cole?
Daggers Posted 21 September 2007 Posted 21 September 2007 ...how come the gay community can label an event as 'gay'? Why differentiate? Maybe the Homeless World Cup would offend your sensibilities a little less.
hairy Posted 21 September 2007 Posted 21 September 2007 Leicester hosted a disabled world cup a few years ago too.
Finnegan Posted 21 September 2007 Posted 21 September 2007 Leicester hosted a disabled world cup a few years ago too. I don't know whether to fooking maime you or laugh at you. Are you being funny, or...? Am I being overly sensitive to intended irony again? Because that's disgraceful if you're seriously. What Leicester hosted was a World Cup for people with learning disabilities, I think, people who were impaired in some or another and couldn't really compete as top level athletes. It was a fantastic event and was really great to see. What the fook is wrong with these people? They just like shafting blokes and not birds - that's the ONLY difference. I hate events like this, they're meant to celebrate the homosexual "scene" but all they do is further put up a barrier between "gays" and "straights." It's stupid. They should just be encouraging gay athletes to have the confidence to be happy with their sexuality AND live in the world of pro sport. Ludicrous.

Geo V Posted 21 September 2007 Posted 21 September 2007 Has anyone started on the womens world cup yet??

So Hairy said 'disabled' and it was in fact 'learning disabilities'. The evil bastard. If you ever got of your high horse you might realise that not everybody apart from yourself is looking to oppress minorities they've just got their own life to lead.

This thread isn't about oppressing anybody (well it wasn't intended to be!). It is merely to point out the occassional hypocrisy and double standards adopted by these 'minorities'.

Wycombe Fox Posted 21 September 2007 Author Posted 21 September 2007 Who won the beach football thingy? OMG! I forgot all about that! I'll update it all over the weekend. Many apologies

What Leicester hosted was a World Cup for people with learning disabilities, I think, people who were impaired in some or another and couldn't really compete as top level athletes. It was a fantastic event and was really great to see. F@#k me! So my memory is going! No it wasn't a joke. I was only trying to point out there are other 'unique' world cups that people don't take exception to. As Daggers did in the post above but you don't have a go at him. I wonder why? And yes I did get involved when Gary Liniker asked for help in running / holding the event in Leicester by getting my company to support it, and yes we did go to some of the matches and yes it was fantastic. But most of all I am very proud to have been involved with the event!
Thracian Posted 21 September 2007 Posted 21 September 2007 Perhaps we'll have the Bi-sexual World Cup, the Lesbian World Cup and even the Bestial World Cup to follow. When I was a kid we just played football. Who the hell your team-mates liked shagging didn't matter. How appropriate though. Football. The ultimate promotional tool!
Daggers Posted 21 September 2007 Posted 21 September 2007 ...As Daggers did in the post above but you don't have a go at him. I wonder why? Well, my guess is that it is because I am 'rock', I have a nice bumhole or that I helped organise the Lesbian Disabled Truckers World Volleyball Championship.

I'll admit I'm not 100% pro gay but I am far, far from considering myself important enough to be resistant towards gay activities such as this or trying to restrict homosexuality in any other way. I'm not for homosexuality and in many ways I'm against it but it's far too harmless to be actively resisted. They can do whatever they want as long as noone is getting hurt.

MPH Posted 21 September 2007 Posted 21 September 2007 one quote from the video.. i think i got it right... ' We want to dispel the myth that gay people are always in night clubs looking for sex and take drugs..' aha! so they ARE different to hetrosexual men.....
