Ric Flair Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 The rest of them managed last night, apart from Campbell. On current form he does not deserve a bench spot let alone a multi-million pound fee. He was shite last night. I'm gonna stick up for him. I don't think he's ever going to be that good, but the way we play will not suit his game either. He's a goal scorer, but he needs the service. Under Megson our strikers will always suffer.
Manwell Pablo Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 I'm gonna stick up for him. I don't think he's ever going to be that good, but the way we play will not suit his game either. MPH Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 How can anyone play under a manager like Ginger.was the night of the gingers last night- Sidwell got his first goal for chelsea...The rest of them managed last night, apart from Campbell. On current form he does not deserve a bench spot let alone a multi-million pound fee.He was shite last night.isnt he our joint top scorer with 2 goals!?
Kent Fox Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 was the night of the gingers last night- Sidwell got his first goal for chelsea... I thought that was funny - I had completely forgotten he had actually gone to Chelski.
Ric Flair Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 He's just not that good. Better players out there for the money we paid. Much better. I agree with that, we were both of the same opinion on him in the summer. But he scored goals at Birmingham because he got the service. He'll no do that here because of the style of football he plays. He needs through balls and plenty of chances, something he'll not get in the 8-1-1 formation.

He's a goal scorer, but he needs the service. Under Megson our strikers will always suffer. He can't compliment Hume or Fryatt, I know that much...and he doesn't play well with the big lads holding up the ball. What does he do? He drops deep when the ball is up front, he's hanging around the defensive line when he needs to be dropping deep - it's like he's hiding from the ball. That one goal he's got is starting to look a pretty poor return on the investment. (*the other was a 'Norbo goal)

(*the other was a 'Norbo goal) You can't blame DJ, if the team does not play to his or the strikers strengths, either DJ's gonna have to adapt to Megson's way of playing or he's gonna struggle, because he's unlikely to get the freedom and chances he had playing the brucy way!!!

I was disgusted at the price we paid for him, but he's scored goals at this level and he'll score them again in the right set up. Have we got the resources and desire to get the correct set up for Campbell though? Probably not and i'm not that bothered, but if you speak to the Birmingham fans, they have nothing but praise for DJ. I also don't think Hume will revel in the Megson era, got a gut feeling he's going to go the same way as Fryatt under Allen.

That would be the icing on the fooking cake. I don't like this boring ultra defensive overload football its absolutely boring and horrible and we'll shoot ourselfs in the foot more often than not. I really do hope he gets the sack soon.
eaststandtom Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 He thought he was joining up with Martin Allen and is said to be unhappy that he's gone. All the changes are bound to have been disruptive. he should bugger off with his bum chum them!! maybe he'll be down the ground tonight asking milan some questions!!!
Fez of Mahrez Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 He's not impressed me at all but his pace is a good option to have. Only thing is - he doesn't seem to want to use it. He looked really quick against Blackpool, Palace and Watford but since then I haven't noticed it at all. Also haven't seen any sign of the 100% effort Birmingham fans alluded to. Maybe he thinks as the big multi-million pound signing he has more licence to wander around waiting for chances to be laid on a plate than he did at Birmingham.

Well....maybe they were on about his persistant fouling and falling over, Example A The City Ground.
James. Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 He certainly hasn't done anything since I posted this to make me change my opinion on him.
Manwell Pablo Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 He certainly hasn't done anything since I posted this to make me change my opinion on him. My opinion of him hasn't changed from when we were first linked with him, and people like Babs and MF were rolling out crap stats like 12 goals in 20 blah blah, and I was lambasted for actually claiming to know what he was like as a player as I actually watch football Take note doubters, take note.
STUHILL Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 Very hard to judge him yet, with all the changes at club and the way we've been playing. I think if we had bit more creativity in midfield, then he would benefit dramatically. Last night especially, where we were lumping up high balls for him against Zat Knight....well, what did we expect!! Still think he could work well with big man like Devries then with Hume playing behind them. Still, main thing is, we don't have much better at moment!
ronnup Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 As Manwell said, he's just not that good. For the price, we got the piss taken out of us. Worth half at best I reckon.
Geo V Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 When we were first linked to him I must admit I thought that for the money mentioned that we could get a better class of striker and I still think that a Billy Sharp or Freddie Eastwood would have been better options, especially as they are more used to holding the ball up and more likely "target" men. BTW to digress for a second, I must laugh when some of the lads on here tried to tell me that DJ is quite tall and would be great in the air! Anyway back to DJ, I wont write him off quite yet. He has looked sharp in spells and almost unplayable against some of the slow coach defenders at this level. The flipside to that is he also looks disinterested at times and wont win many votes from us fans like a Stevie Claridge or even Paul Dickov used to by closing down defenders and running for 90 mins but he is a decent striker who has done OK despite his mentor being sacked. The worry for DJ now is that GM may make him one of the MA scapegoats and bench him. He has either taken him off to early or not started him under his management which doesnt bode well for his future. Personally I don't give a monkeys who is scoring the goals but it would have been great if our £2m man ended up being a 20 goal a season scorer at this level.
Finn Claw Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 He isn't as bad as people make out, a bit more pace than fryatt. not worth 2 million but that wasn't his fault. I'm happy to have him, hume and Fryatt fighting for 2 places at the moment. A good target man would have been nice.
Wherethefoxhat? Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 I agree with that, we were both of the same opinion on him in the summer. Simi Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 Im a bit dissappointed with him I am to. But I will continue to back him, if he gets a consistent run in the team I believe he will score goals. However he hasn't had that yet, nor a consistent partner when he's played. Arguably at the moment, people do deserve to be ahead of him, not Fryatt though. I still don't think Megson knows his preffered front pairing.

Cort / Devries / Elvis - no thank you.
