Fez of Mahrez Posted 23 October 2007 Posted 23 October 2007 THey wouldnt be my first choice to be honest. I think harewood is a donkey. 1 good season and thats it! Are you referring to his season at West Ham in the Premiership or maybe his season at Nottingham Forest alongside Johnson and Huckerby where he looked a class above this level? I swear some people find it difficult to understand the whole Premiership/Championship divide. 20-odd goals from 40-odd starts and 60-odd sub appearances is a very good record at Premiership level. They've signed some new strikers and now he can't get in the team. The same thing happened to Fryatt at the start of this season, it didn't make him a dreadful player and certainly not one that a team in League One could turn their noses up at.
Darkzzz_ Posted 23 October 2007 Posted 23 October 2007 Yeah i agree with this signing, just hope he turns out to be a hit!! We have all seen what he can do.... Get in
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 23 October 2007 Posted 23 October 2007 20 odd in over 100 games for a striker isnt a great deal by any stretch of the imagination. I hope he proves me wrong but i dont think he's the answer to our prayers. The problem is creating an abundance of chances. A winger or better midfielder would have been more prudent in my opinion. I think we get no more then 2 or 3 clear cut chances a game. Yes we can argue that the strikers should take them but if you look at the leaders in all divisions they create loads of chances but dont take them all. Also have to bear in mind that he's been in and out of the team so he's never really had time to find his feet recently. Finally we have a pacy FINSIHER in the squad.
Aeropars Posted 23 October 2007 Posted 23 October 2007 Well, i'll cheer him on no matter what... just hope he proves me wrong.
stevie909 Posted 23 October 2007 Posted 23 October 2007 some people don't know a gift when it hits them in the face.
Finnegan Posted 23 October 2007 Posted 23 October 2007 some people don't know a gift when it hits them in the face. Leicester fans, chap. We don't do positivity.
Manwell Pablo Posted 23 October 2007 Posted 23 October 2007 some people don't know a gift when it hits them in the face. He's entitled to his opinion. I know how he feels, I had to put up with being the only one who knew the truth about DJ Campbell when he was apparently a "fantastic signing" and "just what we need"
City Fan Posted 23 October 2007 Posted 23 October 2007 I can't believe there's been any negativity about this signing, because it is an absolutely unbelievable signing!! This is what you call a transfer coup. Well done GM/MM - haven't been this excited about a signing since Les Ferdinand.
stevie909 Posted 23 October 2007 Posted 23 October 2007 hmmm i wouldnt be so sure about campbell yet, i think he still has time to prove himself. its not like he hasnt scored, i suppose. but for me it would be fryatt and john up front now, with hume in the hole. oh and when do the obligatory 'we must sign john permanently' threads begin?
Finnegan Posted 23 October 2007 Posted 23 October 2007 Difference being Collins John has a pedigree of professional football and has represented a respectable footballing nation at several levels and is still twenty two. Dudley hopped from non-league side to non-league side and only ever ended up in the professional game because one slightly screwball manager offered him a contract after a flukey stint in the FA Cup.
evan Posted 23 October 2007 Posted 23 October 2007 collins john = a slightly better off man's Elvis Hammond i'm liking this news though, on his day he's a raaat handful
Finnegan Posted 23 October 2007 Posted 23 October 2007 collins john = a slightly better off man's Elvis Hammond How do you figure? Collins John is a footballer, Elvis Hammond is a sprinter.

I agree, I think if he hits the ground running he could definatley do a job for us. I just think anyone who says a striker thats done nothing for nigh on two years might not be what we need is entitled to say so without being lynched.
stevie909 Posted 23 October 2007 Posted 23 October 2007 what is defined as 'good' on fm? ive never really got to grips with it to be honest. what level doo the stats go up to? off topic very much but hey ho
Fez of Mahrez Posted 23 October 2007 Posted 23 October 2007 I wonder if he ever played alongside Sergio Hellings at youth level for Holland.

I just think anyone who says a striker thats done nothing for nigh on two years might not be what we need is entitled to say so without being lynched. True. It really does depend entirely on the attitude he comes here with. If he comes here on the sulk then I can't see it being all to fruitful. If he sees us as a fresh lease of life then we could end up with a galvanized, talented, young striker who'd likely really find his level here.
The People's Hero Posted 23 October 2007 Posted 23 October 2007 collins john = a slightly better off man's Elvis Hammond See what you're getting at - quick and eratic finishing. Having said that, the difference lies in the word eratic. Collins John can score great goals and occasionally makes the odd glaring miss. Elvis Hammond just stabs the ball limply wide or mis-hits it tamely to the goalkeeper. CJ has other strengths too... but I feel I'm wasting my time with you, evan.

The People's Hero Posted 23 October 2007 Posted 23 October 2007 Plus, Elvis Hammond's shit on FM. Sh it - didn't we sign Elvis from Fulham? They owe us big time.
Finnegan Posted 23 October 2007 Posted 23 October 2007 Sh it - didn't we sign Elvis from Fulham? They owe us big time. Yeah. We actually gave them a quarter of a million for him, I think. Thanks, Chrisy Chris Coleman.
Bryn Posted 23 October 2007 Posted 23 October 2007 Sanchez continues the mediocratisation of Fulham then. What next, McBride out? He's shipping out all the players with a bit of impact and danger about them. Personally, I think Sanchez is an abysmal manager. Now there's a target man, if that was to somehow happen I'd certainly hope we'd be in line to take him off their hands
Simi Posted 23 October 2007 Posted 23 October 2007 Now there's a target man, if that was to somehow happen I'd certainly hope we'd be in line to take him off their hands He's out injured until after Christmas anyway.
brookfox Posted 23 October 2007 Posted 23 October 2007 I'd say he's instantly our best striker and I'm delighted we've got him! Megson did say a week or so ago about taking players with a view to a permanent in Jan, and looking at players that'd cost a fiar bit. Seeing that he was subject a £3m bid from Watford in the summer, are we looking at our first £3m signing since errrr Matt Jones?!
Ric Flair Posted 23 October 2007 Posted 23 October 2007 He's entitled to his opinion. I know how he feels, I had to put up with being the only one who knew the truth about DJ Campbell when he was apparently a "fantastic signing" and "just what we need" PARDON?
