Anish Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 Got back 1/2 hour agoI think if we got the 2nd, we would have scored a 3rd too because they looked nervous at times even when they were 3-0 up!! Even QPR fans after the game were saying so. We missed Fulop big time and were unlucky (Howard shot) and also pure crap(how did Fryatt not score from 1 bloody yard out!! We need wingers and we will get into the playoffs Also WHOS THE W**KER IN THE HAT what a knob! Agreed, I think if Howard's shot had gone in it would've been a whole different game. Howard did look pretty decent and will score plenty if given the right service, but he also missed a fairly simple header from Sheehan's free kick. However, we were still poor throughout and second to every ball. Our midfield was non-existent so we just bypassed them. Hayles was poor in my opinion and it looks like his legs are gone. Fryatt's miss at the end was inexplicable, but hardly surprising - he's just not a goalscorer. Defensively we were woeful, and Henderson didn't help. But McAuley, Kisnorbo, N'Gotty and Mattock were all at fault for the goals (and Stearman to a lesser extent).
Thracian Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 SourceLeicester boss Ian Holloway insisted there is more to come from strikers Steve Howard and Barry Hayles after their Foxes careers began with a 3-1 defeat at QPR. Former Rangers manager Holloway endured a miserable return to Loftus Road. Goals from Damion Stewart, Adam Bolder and Dexter Blackstock put QPR in command before Iain Hume pulled one back with a sweetly-struck free-kick. Howard, a £1million signing from Derby, came on as a 32nd-minute substitute with Leicester already 2-0 down. But Holloway said: "Both Steve and Barry showed what they are all about. "Steve, who played 90 minutes for Derby the day before yesterday, hit the post and Barry chased everything. "I don't want everything to fall to them because we have other forwards, but with them around now I've got more options. "I'm obviously disappointed but I have spoken to my players about positivity. We have to look to the future." Stewart's header from Akos Buzsaky's corner gave Rangers the lead after a quarter of an hour. They went further ahead when Blackstock headed Rowan Vine's cross into the path of Bolder, who nodded in from close range. Howard tried to galvanise his new team and nearly scored a spectacular goal four minutes into the second half, when his 35-yard drive hit the woodwork with keeper Lee Camp beaten. Eight minutes later, QPR went 3-0 up. Again a left-wing cross from Vine did the damage, this time enabling Blackstock to head home his first goal since the opening day of the season. Hume's goal gave Leicester hope, but they never looked like coming back and Howard missed a great chance when he headed wide late on. Holloway added: "My lot usually do better from set-pieces but I have to say the delivery from QPR was excellent. "For their second goal, Blackstock got the header and the midfielder Bolder got in unopposed to score. As a former midfielder myself, I really did not like that. You have to go with the runner." QPR coach Luigi De Canio said: "We played well but we still can and must play better. "We need to keep on improving in certain areas and defending is an example of that, but Damion Stewart will be a very good player when he learns to concentrate for the full 90 minutes. "And when we score, we must not be content with that. We must keep trying to score a second and third goal because the best form of defence is attack." Rangers will now look to complete the signings of defenders Fitz Hall from Wigan and Matt Connolly from Arsenal, with on-loan Plymouth midfielder Akos Buzsaky's permanent move set to be rubber-stamped. The club has money to spend following a takeover by Formula One magnates Bernie Ecclestone and Flavio Briatore and have targeted a host of other players. De Canio added: "We will now sit down with the board and see who enters the club's plans. "Anyone who can be beneficial to QPR will be taken into consideration." "And when we score, we must not be content with that. We must keep trying to score a second and third goal because the best form of defence is attack." I wish someone would cut that comment out, post it in our dressing room and make sure we go out with that attitude. I'm only really interested in the comments of winners anyway.

To be fair, Holloway said in his interview something like "they got the first goal, kept pushing on, got the second - thats what its all about".
Bryn Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 To be fair, Holloway said in his interview something like "they got the first goal, kept pushing on, got the second - thats what its all about". Ignore him, he's quite happy to disregard the fact that this is the second time in a row that IH has stressed the need for a side not to stop attacking after taking a lead, so he can push his bollocks crusade. I'm not one of these people that persistantly disagrees with Thracian but on this occasion it's fcking me off that he's 100% oblivious to what other people are saying.
Cat Burger Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 I can't think of any full back we have who is strong at stopping crosses, maybe James Chambers thanks to sheer pace. The primary job of a full back is to stop crosses and all of ours are shit at it.

Holloway can soundbite as much as he likes but the truth of what actually happens was demonstrated against Charlton. And then today, as at Burnley, he goes out with a massive defensive overload and only after going behind down does he finally adopt an attacking strategy and not only pull a goal back but go very close to a second. Hedoesn't even demonstrate that he really believes in his own stated philosophy.

And Fulop probably hid this to a certain extent because he was fairly commanding coming for them...
Sods Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 1st half was wank. 2nd better, could have got the goals back if we could finish, Howard,Fryatt and Hayles. Howard linking up well he looks good. Hayles was alright and will cause problems. Humes Free Kick was actally awesome and the ref was a cock. Why do i shit myself when Henderson gets anywhere near the ball?

When we're sitting back, Holloway's usually on the sideline telling people to push up. Our lineup today had 3 strikers in it from the off, and a fourth was on after 30 minutes. The goal we pulled back was a free-kick, a set play. If we were really defensively "overloaded" (bearing in mind it was also an away game) then I don't see how putting one extra striker on takes us to "attacking strategy" straight away?

I'll stand correcting but Hume didn't seem to be being used as a striker at all to begin with but rather a closing down player who could offer attacking support - not the same as all. We conceded the initiative with our line-up by playing three strictly non-creative midfielders in Chambers, N'Gotty and Clemence. Had he played Chambers, N'Gotty, Clemence in midfield and Hume, Hayles, Fryatt up front then that would have been playing with three strikers although we'd have had very little goals potential from midfield and therefore we'd still have suffered from defence overload.

WetFlannel Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 Just got back... Fryatts miss was an absolute disgrace. If that had gone in we could have been right back in the game. Howard missed a glaring chance, but I was impressed with his contribution, and seemed to win alot in the air, with us constantly hoofing it up the pitch. The rest were pretty poor apart from Hume with the two free kicks he had. The defence was terrible and its nice to see Stearman back to his best
Lovejoy Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 What pissed me off most today was that after getting one back, we showeed little willingness to stick our necks out and go for it! Fryatt's miss was farcical(sp)
Stevosevic Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 Just got back, bit of a shambles today, few points - N'Gotty needs to be moved back to center back - Henderson was very shaky IMO, new keeper needed - Howard did well, impressed

Hume drifts inside from the left and supplements the two strikers in an attacking midfield role. Thats how he's being used and thats where our midfield creativity is supposed to come from. Mattock is actually an attacking full-back, just not a particularly good one yet. Stearman's the same but better. Clemence, much as I'm not a fan, seems to be trying to play box-to-box. So we have two strikers, one attacking midfielder, one purely defensive, two that are neither here nor there, and a defensive 4 with two attacking full-backs.
breadandcheese Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 Just got back, bit of a shambles today, few points- N'Gotty needs to be moved back to center back - Henderson was very shaky IMO, new keeper needed - Howard did well, impressed Amen to that, although Henderson wasn't the reason we lost today. Such stupid basic mistakes from our defence. I'd also drop Mattock, let him build some confidence up in the reserves and then bring him back in. He was well out of his depth today. QPR didn't actually have that many shots on goal today, we made them look better than they are.

Even if Hume was was operating as a specialist attacking midfielder he'd only have rated as half a striker and I honestly feel he's principally in that role because he closes down fast. Mattock might be in the team as an attacking wing-back but that doesn't mean he is one - he's got enough of a challenge just being a defender and has never created anything that would mark him down as an attacker. Clemence box to box? Well, I've rarely seen it and he didn't get many mentions on the radio today. So, even if I were being generous we might have had 8-3 in terms of attackers/defenders. If you're happy with that cos it was an away match fair enough. But it wouldn't be my idea of a positive starting line-up.

Ollie bought his first 2 players for the club yesterday, the earliest possible occasion, and both of them were Strikers. Ollie's always been considered more gung ho than defensive and I haven't seen anything to the contrary.
Corky Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 I wasn't there today, but if what everyone says is true, I can understand Henderson being nervous. We have just had a quality goalkeeper who rarely puts a foot wrong for four months, and Henderson can' t live up to that, no wonder he is nervous. I think we have been spoilt with Fulop, and we should keep him. Pay the £3 million if we have to. I am pleased we tried to attack in the second half, many times we have gone behind and just given up (Southampton away last year a prime example). Good to see Howard impressing, and Hume getting another goal. No good playing two defenders in midfield though.
Hullfox Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 We drew the part of the game Sheehan played today 0-0. Can you actually blow any more smoke up this poor kid's backside?
Stevosevic Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 Oh and Fryatt's miss was terrible, i couldn't believe it. If that had gone in, who knows, we could have snatched a point.
Monk Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 Oh and Fryatt's miss was terrible, i couldn't believe it. If that had gone in, who knows, we could have snatched a point. It wasn't as bad as the sitter he missed last season in the same position. Still, really should be burying chances like that.
Stevosevic Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 It wasn't as bad as the sitter he missed last season in the same position. Still, really should be burying chances like that. I saw it clearly sititing on the front row, it was literally one yard out. Don't remember the sitter last year but it must have been bad.
Trumpet Posted 1 January 2008 Posted 1 January 2008 My verdict: We've recently over the last few games, looked considerably better. Only today, we created chance, unlucky to not finish them but were nervous at the back with Henderson flapping and trying to punch. We need Fulop back.
