Palace Post Match

...and? :dunno:

Sorry mate, but if we are going to be winning like that every week then I'll not be going to the games anymore. The style of play is not only unattractive but forms no basis for long-term success - what good has it done Derby this season?

If we go up at some point in the future then it'd better be on the back of performances being ground out by WBA - not a tip of the forlock to Derby and Wimbledon - because at least I rate their chances of being able to survive in the Premiership.

So, apologies to everyone equally offended by my lack of desire to organise an open-top bus parade for the squad on the back of last nights match but I'll reserve my positive comments for the times when we do something to justify the effort.

I suppose it all depends on whether you have a naturally positive outlook on things or a negative one. I tend to be very negative at times. What I find interesting is you say, that if we win like that every week you won't go and watch us. But we've played crap and not won every week for several seasons now, but you still make the trip from Birmingham on a regular occasion, so either it's a figure of speech to show your dis-approval at the type of performance last night or you're strange.

But I am in agreement with you, i've said exactly the same things before when we've won games like that and how i'd not go and watch us if we became successful playing like that. But is that really the case? Because if so, then we are absolute wankers of the highest order for continuing to go and watch our team very rarely win and play crap, but then proclaim we'll stop going if we win ugly each game.

Anyone know how injured Stearman is? Barber and Walshy didn't seem to think it looked too good, hopefully won't be.

And.... anyone got links for match highlights yet please??!!

Soooo true.

It wasn't particularly hoofball last night, we just couldn't seem to pass it and they gave us no space. Thing is, some people only know one type of bad football. They assume we were playing poorly on purpose or weren't trying to knock it about on the floor.

We game was scrappy the game was shit and we did resort to looking for Howards head at time. I would agree with you and say that is far from the only thing we tried though.

Don't get me wrong, I didn't think of it as a Full English by any means.

No-one seems to acknowledge that you can easily look at games like last night in a positive or negative light, both at the same time. It was an awful performance. Bad. We won. Good. You don't have to stick to one or the other. Both are true.

The jury is out still for me, we are winning which is a bonus but last night I felt we were poor, no excitement, no clear cut chances until DJ missed in the 93rd minute.

Hume is out of position and looked unfit or carrying an injury, and hayles was lucky to shin it in from 1 yrd.

Overall poor.

Mind you there number 5 was outstanding which kept howard at bay all night.

Absolutely, hence my post to Daggers earlier. I'm often negative, but last night's performance hasn't incensed me like it has some. I thought it was a 'proper' football match, a throwback to the battles when it was a real man's game. Obviously that sort of football get's tiresome and attractive football is what it's all about for football fans to be stimulated, but I took some positives away from last night and I hope it's another step in us making a move up the table. If we string some more points together in quick succession, the bumflufferies of yesterday will be forgotten.

...and for the record, i'm not always rude, i don't even know where you get that from, i don't think you'll find anyone here who'll back you up on that... i'll stand up for what i believe, and if that means ruffling some feathers then so be it... after all i only thought you were being a twat, you actually typed it ;)

With the joy of the three points faded I can certainly say that I hope we never, ever play Hayles and Howard up front together ever again. Pair of lumps. I think Hayles outplayed Howard but as a pair they don't work - we were crying out for someone with pace. Glad to see Campbell fit again, I think he could form a good partnership with Howard. I think at 36, Hayles should be able to settle for the last 20 minutes of games rather than first choice and if he continues to steal winners, all the better, it will turn out to be fairly astute business.

The performance was pretty dismal but I think it was one of those games - Palace closed down very well and we defended in numbers. It was a game a player like Lazcko was never going to have much joy in and I think he played pretty well in the circumstances, trying quite hard, but didn't look 100% fit. I think a more limited player like Porter would have had a job getting into the game at all so he did fairly well.

The defence were solid but they do need to get it into their heads that lumping the ball forward doesn't help anything. Stearman looked the most likely to bring the ball down and play it out to me which I gather is an improvement, and Mattock looked quite confident to do so as well. Kisnorbo and McAuley are still the main culprits, they just need to be a little calmer when the ball is at their feet. Sometimes they were under pressure but other times they did have time to play the ball out.

Oakley was quiet but I actually thought that he and Clemence switched roles late on. Clemence was the more offensive for most of the game but towards the end Oakley went on a couple of runs down the right, the last of which resulted in a goal. It was a good ball in which more than made up for the slightly inadvertent finish. Bori looked tidy - a class above may be a little strong but he used the ball well and was eager and direct.

Certainly a good win. A few more wins like those and we'll be a little more comfortable and can start to work on the style of football we play.

Holloway said the other week how Howard and Hayles isn't a partnership that is particularly natural and it's unlikely they'll start alongside each other much. Was strange to see him then pick them together last night, especially as Bori was available as was DJ if he didn't fancy Hume alongside Howard either. I think because of the way Hayles played against Norwich, he felt he couldn't leave him out.

Aye I think you're right. I think it was probably a mixture of that and the fact that he didn't want DJ to be exposed too quickly, right after a long layoff. Which, even if many things weren't great, was a good decision. I'd give DJ 60 minutes or so from the start against Blackpool then withdraw him. Hayles seems quite capable as an impact player.

For months and months, we've been giving games away, losing "unnecessarily" in the final minutes or stoppage time.

Everyone was complaining about our bad luck, the "Walkers jinx" and so on.

Now...

It turns out we scrape to such a win ourselves for once, are now unbeaten in three (and that means something being a Leicester City fan) and what happens?

People start slating other people because we've won!!!

How ridiculous is that!

You can't have the bread and the butter all the time, if you know what I mean.

Let's focus on Blackpool, shall we?

I think we all know the answer to the first one buddy boy :D

Coming along match after match is something you do because of hope - and I said IF we intend to continue to play in that fashion then I'll be checking out of the rest of the season now. I have also said that there are times when those kind of matches are called for - but this is spinning my original point about the cheering of Hume, Salty's lightweight showing and the fact that it all formed a dreadful spectacle.

I have not said that we will play this way for the rest of the season, but all I want is something decent to watch. Effort is not everything, punting the ball is nothing - a little bit of flair is all I crave. I pay money to see people do things that I never could, not to see the same kind of stuff that can be witness being performed by the inept on any given park pitch.

Fez thinks I can't tell the difference between playing like that and being forced to play like that? Nonsense. We opted to approach the game in that fashion because we were scared - and they did the same. What we witnessed were two teams afraid to take the initiative a seize the game, hoping to capitalise on a defensive error - now colour it how you like but that is poor football.

As for the last - the simple fact that I continually buy the lies fed to me on the back of misguided optimism makes me a big, fat gullible willy puller. I've never denied it.

I presume it was something to do with the physical presence of Palace. But I, too, was also surprised by the selected partnership. Ian Hume, despite being only 5'7'', can battle with big defenders and win his fair share of headers. He held his own on numerous occasions in the past.

fook sake, We won after playing shit whats the deal really?

I challenge anyone here to play free flowing football on a pitch like that against a team that is constantly in your face giving you no room to think. I'm sure many of you could do it right?

Stop whinging we won in very bad conditions (How the pitch got that way i don't know) which really is all we could of asked for.

Were not Arsenal, Manchester UTD or Chelsea. We are Leicester City and we are again fighting for our survival in this division and if you think wins like this are not welcome then you are as deluded as Newcastle fans.
