marbelladave Posted 11 February 2008 Posted 11 February 2008 Mark and Houdini Nice team but perhaps not radical enough. For example, Alnwick Chambers - Stearman - Kisnorbo - Mattock Oakley - Clemence Bori - Hume - Zsolt DJ
Thracian Posted 11 February 2008 Posted 11 February 2008 at least you've stopped saying the youth team would win the league Perhaps you'd dig that comment out. It could take some time. But don't think I wouldn't want players like Gradel, Porter, Shush!, King, Weso, Dodds, Mattock and even Beswick as options to the sort of short term trundlers and hit or miss merchants we've got running around in City shirts right now. Cos from what I can see the Chosen Men now have very little genuine competition to push them for their places at all.
Daggers Posted 11 February 2008 Posted 11 February 2008 I don't care what the team is just so long as he makes sure to play Hume out on the right wing. That will make me very happy.

Maybe try it against a team like Blackpool or Plymouth. Oh wait...

Bert Posted 11 February 2008 Posted 11 February 2008 may as well though, what do we have to lose? Er, 1 or 3 points?
Jimmy Posted 11 February 2008 Posted 11 February 2008 Er, 1 or 3 points? Er we are away to the team that is top of the league and we are shit away from home, where I'm sitting we have nothing to lose here
izzetafox? Posted 12 February 2008 Posted 12 February 2008 AlnwickStearman N'Gotty Kisnorbo Mattock Hume Wesolowski Kishishev Beswick (heard good reports of him from reserve games, can't be worse than the dross we saw last night) Howard Campbell Not that i think it really matters what team he puts out, it will still be painfull to listen to on radio leics but...... Alnwick Stears Kisnorbo Mcauley Clapham Bori Oakley Clem Mattock DJ Howard Lackzo Hume Weso Ngotty
Bryn Posted 12 February 2008 Posted 12 February 2008 It is right to say Watford play longball. They do. I envisage McAuley and Kisnorbo having a fairly tidy game, because it's food and drink to them normally. The difference between their longball and ours is they A. Do it quite well and actually, you know, put the ball in the net and B. Have a player like Nathan Ellington who can change things and produce moments of brilliance to swing games in their favour. Shittu et al aren't really that fazed by the longball but apparently hate the ball being played in between them on the floor so I think starting Hume and Campbell might be a better idea than letting Howard in.
Wycombe Fox Posted 12 February 2008 Posted 12 February 2008 Alnwick Chambers (dead leg) or Stearman if Chambers (dead leg) not recovered McAuley Kisnorbo Mattock Bori Oakley Clemence Zsolt DJ Hume Subs: Clapham, King, Weso, Howard, Fryatt DJ and Hume both scored in the home game and I'm sick of the 'kick it as high and as far as you can' ball-abuse type of game that we seem to have adopted.

ronnup Posted 12 February 2008 Posted 12 February 2008 It'll be the same team except Chembers out for Stears. He pretty much said that in the interview yesterday didn't he? Why he can't see that D.J is a better option than Hayles I don't know. He should drop Clem and play Hume in behind the strikers and play both the Hungary hippos. But he won't.
RowlattsFox Posted 12 February 2008 Posted 12 February 2008 Call me negative but I might be tempted to play 4-5-1/4-3-3 tonight. ........................Alnwick Stearman..McAuley...Kisnorbo..Clapham .........Wesolowski....Clemence........... ......................Oakley...................... Bori.......................................Laczko ......................Howard..................... Subs: N'Gotty, Hume, Campbell, Hayles, Kishishev I know its a bit negative but it is crucial we don't concede an early goal because if we do we will lose the game comfortably. Obviously with this formation we will need Bori, Lazcko and Oakley to support Howard and I think they will do, especially the hungarians. We have options on the bench should we need a goal or feel we can nick the 3 points, a point would be a good result tonight, there is no doubt about that.
marbelladave Posted 12 February 2008 Posted 12 February 2008 Team selection, some questions. Despite their lack of pace, tendency to play too deep and awful hoofball clearances why do Mcauley and Kisnorbo play every game? Why do Oakley and Clemence, strong MIDFIELD players with a decent passing game, play just 5 yards in front of our back 4? Playing Hume on the right is bad enough but why make his defensive duties so onerous that he can barely get forward? Why bring in (the Hungarian) wingers and not give them the ball into feet? Why play 2 big men up front, neither of whom is quick enough to get onto any headers made by the other? Some new ideas please Ollie, we are not going to get close to the playoffs so start rebuilding NOW!

I do like this formation, however Ollie wouldn't go for it in a million years I don't think. But if that was used correctly it might work. I find it frustrating lately that Oakley is playing so deep, I feel he'd be much better off if he pushed on a little more. We always seem to find ourselves deep resulting in hoof ball stuff. We need to pressure games much more and retain the ball for longer periods. Especially with matches tonight, when we've not got the ball we'll be under a lot of pressure.

Nothing wrong with this PROVIDING Bori and Laczko stay forward and support the front man and do not let themselves get dragged back into defense. 7 defenders really should be enough. Still think something more radical is desperately needed though!
