Mort Posted 28 February 2008 Posted 28 February 2008 I'm hoping to be surprised by Hendrie... but not expecting it.* *That was almost Keegan-esqu!
connolly19 Posted 28 February 2008 Posted 28 February 2008 Why I think Hendrie will become a catalyst for us is simple, he is pure quality. Stoke were out of form until Hendrie came in, and soon they catapulted up the league into playoff contentions. Have you never noticed the effect people give you when they are new into an establishment. Chris Coleman is not a messiah but he comes in and makes an underpeforming Coventry side beat us 2-0. Underperforming is a word that springs to mind when mentioning us. Last season, Sunderland had a dire start to the season but when Keano came in he gave them a fresh impetus and what did they do??.........But no that was not down to Keane was it, it was down to pure luck wasn't it. And Sheffield United could end up kicking themselves. They could done with Hendrie in their side instead of Jonathan Stead, but that is another argument. Have you heard of players not settling in? Becoming stale?..or do you believe that clubs only let people go because they are rubbish. We let Jordan Stewart go because he was rubbish didn't we?? People are so naive. Im prepared for the onslaught of abuse from 'knowledgeable' fans on what makes a player 'good'!!!
dandannieldanok Posted 28 February 2008 Posted 28 February 2008 Its been too long since we had a central midfielder playing on the wing, well done Ollie.
Finnegan Posted 28 February 2008 Posted 28 February 2008 To the guy that compared Lee Hendrie to Jason Koumas, you've been warned, I'm watching you and I've a gun.

City are currently struggling and it may turn out that this move will only add more sorrow to a temperamental player like Hendrie, but I do hope i'm wrong!!!

I think you're missing the point, it's not to do with the quality of the player, false dawns is our middle name when it comes to new managers/player providing a catalyst to better more successful football; don't you think for instance they said the same about Clemence & Oakley - it doesn't happen for us, defeat is too engrained for one player to make a difference. Leicester don't need a catalyst they need a fooking bomb.
The People's Hero Posted 28 February 2008 Posted 28 February 2008 So close to signing and then some cocaine washed up on a beach miles away and he was off.
connolly19 Posted 28 February 2008 Posted 28 February 2008 I understand what you are saying The Singh, but Hendries situation could be likened to Fryatt's. Fryatt is without a doubt a good player, people who say he is shit are just trying to be controversial. If Fryatt went to Crewe like reports suggest, I have no doubt he would do well for them and score goals. Managers, like fans, have opinions and have certain favourite players. Rob Kelly liked Fryatt, and he repaid his faith by scoring goals and helped keep us up, when Kelly left, Fryatt never really got the same chance. Bryan Robson bought Lee Hendrie and obviously rated him but now Blackwell is there he is not the sort of player he likes soo it seems, with him being loaned out. Rozenhal for Newcastle is another prime example, being bought in by Allardyce then being shipped to Lazio when Keegan came in. Different managers like different players, fans and managers sometimes dont agree on players but managers are paid to make decisions, and they live or die by them. I certainly hope Blackwell doesnt regret loaning out Hendrie!

Don't get me wrong, i do hope your right, and Hendrie can be all the things you want him to be, but Fryatt scenario is alittle different, for one he's dropping down a division, a division where he made his trade, also Crewe aren't in the same shite were in, we have been rotting from the core for over 3 years, player after player has done nothing in the long term, and sparks fairly last longer then a game or two!! Unfortunately we have had a host of managers that have little effect, Ollie has signed afew so called saviours, and non have really shown us the way!! This club is and any player\manager that joins it is likely to fail, instead of signing Hendrie we were better of signing a witch doctor or and a excorcist to get rid of the demons that are causing our demise!! I suggest we all sacrifice alteast one goat before the game to our great god Elvis!!
Staf Posted 28 February 2008 Posted 28 February 2008 Pretty good signing i think he is a good versatile player and he is what we need he will provide a bit of bite in the midfield good signig in my opinion.

Stevosevic Posted 28 February 2008 Posted 28 February 2008 Personal life In June 2003, Hendrie received a 12-month driving ban for M40 drink-driving, when he passed a police car over the speed limit on the M40. It was subsequently found that he was 1.5 times over the limit, and banned for twelve months. This was after a June 2000 incident, when Hendrie vowed to become teetotal during the football season after receiving a three-month international ban after breaking a team curfew with the England under-21.[5] Hendrie married childhood sweetheart Becky in 2004, having had a stag event in Marbella in May where he met Jade Goody. After marrying Becky, the mother of his two children Maizie and Tallulah, the marriage fell apart just hours after their wedding in June, when Becky found he had been seeing lover Emma Cheal, 19. The couple cancelled their £120,000 honeymoon in Mauritius and Hendrie moved out of their £1 million marital home in Solihull to stay with friends.[6] But Becky took revenge when she found out that he had moved in with Emma. Becky scratched insults on his new £60,000 Porsche Cayenne, which led to Hendrie threatening to sue; and spent upwards of £50,000 on new credit cards. He subsequently left Emma, and had a short fling with Jade.[7] In October 2004, it was reported that Hendrie was secretly dating 18 year-old Amy Bruce, daughter of Birmingham City's boss Steve Bruce. Hendrie denied it, but when Bruce appeared at a match with cuts and bruises on his face, the rumours escalated. The injuries were sustained, Bruce said, when he confronted two thieves trying to make off with his daughter's Mini. But the matter was never reported to West Midlands Police.[6] On 21 August 2005 he assaulted Jamie May in Solihull. He was subsequently convicted on 3 March 2006 and ordered to serve 60 hours of community service. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_Hendrie

Matt Posted 28 February 2008 Posted 28 February 2008 Please please please fuk Hume of on the wing and the team for a few weeks now. I always thought Hendrie was a centre midfielder but Ollie thinks he can play all over midfield so lets do it (Although lets be honest Ollie has said many things and done the other, or if make excuses for something or other). Hume needs to be given a reality check that although he's a fans favourite if he doesn't perform he doesn't play, simple. In a few weeks if he doesn't throw his toys out the pram about being dropped (Which i'd imagine he's the type of person who would) and performs in training re-introduce him into the first team in his proper position and he might actually play decent. Quite happy with this signing, Just hope he does well here and were able to get him in the summer, but I was happy with many signing last summer and they havn't really set the world alight.
Simi Posted 28 February 2008 Posted 28 February 2008 Interesting one certainly. I'm a little less pleased now, than I was when it looked like we were going to sign him in the summer. Sheff U fans seem very pleased he's gone, not been putting in the effort and the like. Surely not what we need in a relegation battle? But we'll see soon enough whether his head is in it or not. If it is, sure to be a good signing, there's no doubt that he has class. Hopefully going to play wide right. If he doesn't fit in however, he'll just become yet another passenger.
