We could be safe but we need more fight - Ollie by Bill Anderson

Ian Holloway believes his Leicester City side may be safe already, despite letting three valuable points slip away at home on Saturday.

cityvweds4-mo18.jpg

But he spelt out a harsh warning to his squad.

The City manager said: "There is still fight in us. We need to show the fight and belief we didn't show against Sheffield Wednesday.

"That's hard for me to say but I have said it.''

Holloway added: "We have got three points at the Britannia Stadium to fight for.

"If Southampton win both their remaining games, they will probably stay up and we won't but will they?

"What I am saying is we might be safe with no points. We might not even have to get a point next week. I don't know yet.

"Stoke holds no fears for me as a manager. I have won four times and lost one in six visits.

"The players have got to stay calm and calculated.

"We were one up on Saturday and we overcooked it. What I will say is that the Sheffield Wednesday fans and players were all positive and that is what we have got to be."

A win at the Walkers on Saturday, of course, would have ended all arguments. But City have not managed that two-wins-in-a-row feat at all during the campaign.

Holloway reflected: "When you look at it, after a fantastic performance the week before, we started like a whirlwind, got ourselves one in front, the crowd were magnificent from start to finish and we ended up losing 3-1.

"Could I see it coming? Not on the balance of play. Kisnorbo getting injured was a massive blow.

"We started going deeper and deeper and that was our undoing, and I feel hurt for all the people who came in and saw that.

"But Barnsley would have been thinking the same last week and look what they did (beating Charlton 3-0 for safety).

"Sheffield Wednesday would have been thinking the same and look what they did to us.

"Not winning two games in a row makes it hard for everyone because we have not been able to get any momentum."

The shock 3-1 setback against relegation rivals Sheffield Wednesday boosted the Owls out of the bottom three.

Southampton now languish there as they prepare to face Championship title-challengers West Brom at the Hawthorns tonight before closing at home to Sheffield United, who are still gunning for the play-offs.

City go to Stoke, who need a point for automatic promotion and maybe a win for the title themselves.

It looks a tall order for City, but Saints need to catch them on points because their goal-difference deficit is huge.

Last season, City had enough points to stay up with five games left and Robert Kelly in charge.

But no-one could tell that at the time and he made way for Nigel Worthington for the run-in.

It might be a similar scenario in terms of points now.

But City go into the final game without Patrick Kisnorbo.

He was carried off with suspected cruciate knee ligament damage and even if, as is hoped, the injury is not as serious as first thought, he will still miss the trip.

But all City eyes will tonight will be on the Hawthorns.

But, instead of City being able to relax, as they would have done by winning on Saturday, nothing can be taken for granted.

Almost speechless at this, what we need is for him to either, Go ****ing mental or Shut the **** up. What we certainly do not need is for him to say that we may not need any more points to survive!! Once again he is sending the wrong message out to the players but more so to the fans.

What an idiot, what a fooking idiot.

How is this supposed to put the players in the right mindset?!

I can see Southampton pulling it off tonight

This bloke is getting on my nerves, with his "there's always next week guys" attitude.

from the Beeb:

"Sheffield United look set to be without striker James Beattie, winger Lee Martin and defender Ugo Ehiogu for their play-off decider at Southampton.

Beattie and Ehiogu picked up calf injuries in the first half of Saturday's 2-1 win over Bristol City, while Martin suffered ligament damage.

That win means the Blades still have a slim hope of reaching the play-offs.

Manager Kevin Blackwell told BBC Radio Sheffield: "I think all three are definitely out for next week."

Blackwell was happy with the way his reshuffled side came back against the Robins.

"You're talking about a side that have been in the top two and we gave them a goal start and we still come back and that's with massive changes."

The guy is a complete prize twit, village idiot style - how the heck is this supposed to raise the players for the final game ffs..

MM should just put him out of his misery, and us out of ours.....

For Cov to go down, Southampton would need to overturn the 8 goal deficit that Coventry have over them.

only if cov get a draw, southampton are only 2 points behind them - there are 5 teams within the space of 2 points.

Mon 28th April

18 Blackpool 53 -5

19 Coventry City 53 -9

20 Sheffield Weds 52 -4

21 Leicester City 51 -3

22 Southampton 51 -17

Sun May 4th

Blackpool v Watford

Charlton Athletic v Coventry City

Sheffield Wednesday v Norwich City

Stoke City v Leicester City

Southampton v Sheffield United

Given the current form of Charlton and Watford I can see Cov and B'pool picking up wins.

Norwich have nothing to play for so a Sheff Weds win is on the cards.

Leics or Southampton for the drop.

>_<

I think that summary is about right. I think Sheff Utd will win tbh but I'll still be bricking it come Sunday.

I can't wait til Sunday when all of this is over and we'll all be put out of our misery.

This week is horrible.

It wont get any better for me....

Gotta go to my in-laws this weekend, so will be watching the game there. Father-In-Law is a Wolves fan, so that's gonna be fun.........

Thank god sheffield utd have something to play for, i think they will do us a massive favour by winning at southampton

Don't worry if we go down and have to change managers - a certain Mr P. Taylor has just left Stevenage Borough (having failed to guide them into the Blue Square Premiership play-offs) and is now looking for a league club to manage.
