davieG Posted 11 April 2008 Posted 11 April 2008 I did this poll a month ago and got the following results from 146 votes Relegation 40% Safety 60% This was the situation then: Can we avoid relegation for the 4th season on the trot this is the worst situation in those 4 years that we've been in with 9 games to go.Previously with 9 games to go we were: 2004/5 16th with 44 points - 3 points off relegation with a game in hand 2005/6 18th with 40 points - 8 points off relegation 2006/7 16th with 46 points - 9 points off relegation 2007/8 21st with 41 points - 2 points off relegation having played 2 games more than the 22nd placed team Even last season having not won for 10 games and with 3 games to go we were better placed being 5 points away from relegation prior to two successive away wins and we were shitting ourselves then! Are we going to lose our exclusive position in the group of 9 teams never to have played below Division 2? Will we no longer be able to proudly proclaim: And then there were NINE - Man United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Everton, West Ham, Tottenham, Newcastle and LEICESTER Will I be watching Division 3 football for the first time in 45 years of supporting Leciester City Football Club. Come on don't sit on the fence, be honest with yourselves will we survive, not should we but will we? We're now 22nd with 47 points, 1 point adrift of one team and 2 points adrift of 3 teams one of which has a game in hand. Has your view changed?
Father Ted Posted 11 April 2008 Posted 11 April 2008 We basically have a 4 in 5 chance of staying up. It's going down possibly to the last day I reckon
SamL Posted 11 April 2008 Posted 11 April 2008 If we lose tomorrow, I'm left fearing the worst. It's been coming, I've kind of expected it.
Father Ted Posted 11 April 2008 Posted 11 April 2008 I was just wondering on people's views - if we were to go down would you class our squad as the worst in history - like we've never been out of the top 2 divisions in our history and so technically it would be the worst squad but then when you compare some of the players we've got to recent years - such as Oakley to Hughes and Hendrie to Andy Johnson. Thoughts?
Fat Ron Posted 11 April 2008 Posted 11 April 2008 We are down. Im prepared. You can debate all you want, I'm getting my crying out of the way now

Thoughts? The Squad has potential. The Teamwork and managment there of has been a shambles from the Start of the Season. I wouldnt even say that Ollie is the worst Manager in our History, but the handling of situations by the Powers that be have been at the heart of our downfall.
Fat Ron Posted 11 April 2008 Posted 11 April 2008 Believe in the passion of the Freund - he will get us out of this ... Is he here on Loan?? **** it, play him and the other 15 loanees we have, we can afford £2k per game in fines

Zingari Posted 11 April 2008 Posted 11 April 2008 Our abysmal scoring record and general toothlessness up front makes me fear the worst but I'm usually (and hopefully) wrong
Monk Posted 11 April 2008 Posted 11 April 2008 I think we will survive by the skin of our teeth on goal difference.
Thracian Posted 11 April 2008 Posted 11 April 2008 Even with supposedly better players we have failed to repair our weaknesses and have shown no signs of the consistency needed to survive. Remember the intimidation Newcastle presented in this division under Kevin Keegan. Teams didn't really think about going to St James Park and winning, they set out to avoid embarrassment. We don't have that effect at all. We don't have a style of play that is threatening to anyone. Every game is a lottery. You don't think "wow I'm looking forward to this cos unless they are brilliant we've got this player and that player who will take them apart". As a team we're boring and predictable. We don't have anyone who attacks the near post at all, anyone who arrives late in the box, anyone who lurks on the six yard line or anyone who really wins the ball at the back post. We don't have any long range shooters either which means we are very limited in how we might score and even more limited when it comes to anyone but Hume and Howard scoring at all. Last minute transormation? I've been waiting years for that but for it to happen we need a manager with unyielding conviction and a rare ability to get the very best out of people. I've not seen any of that. We may something on Saturday but relegation I'm afraid. We've given our closest rivals too much hope now.

hairy Posted 11 April 2008 Posted 11 April 2008 I've put safety but 5.00pm on Saturday would be a good time to answer this poll. This whole thing is starting to take me over. Its all consuming. I hope whatever the result on Saturday that it will ease this. I just need to know where we will be next season. As for being the worst squad in our history, I would say not. There are some good players there but put them on a pitch for 90 minutes and it either goes brilliantly or totally wrong.
Koke Posted 11 April 2008 Posted 11 April 2008 Safety just by the skin of our teeth. If we lose tomorrow, and all our rivals win then we are done and over with.
filbertway Posted 11 April 2008 Posted 11 April 2008 Safety just by the skin of our teeth. If we lose tomorrow, and all our rivals win then we are done and over with. The thing is, we aren't are we, there can still be lots more twists and turns even at this stage.
Daggers Posted 11 April 2008 Posted 11 April 2008 This isn't about tomorrow, this is about us not picking up sufficient points over the last four matches. I said we'd go down last poll and looking at how Wednesday and Barnsley are playing they will be the key games. The most important aspect of tomorrow is 'can we build a noise to match last season'? If we can deliver a level of support that raised our team to play their hearts out for 90 minutes last season then we stand a chance - if everyone is sitting down waving a white flag then we haven't got a hope. It's all about the noise.

Dr The Singh Posted 11 April 2008 Posted 11 April 2008 The noise will be there no question - but there was plenty of noise a Sheffield too. Sitting next to you there will be, some people might call it noise pollution!!! Let's hope the players give the supporters something to cheer about also!!!
Chimp Posted 11 April 2008 Posted 11 April 2008 In Feb I looked at the fixtures list and tagged the games against S****horpe, Colchester and Sheffield Weds as being absolutely crucial - forget the results from any other games, if we win against these three then we stay up. My outlook hasn't changed much, we won against Scunny and I still believe if we win against Colchester and Sheff Weds then we'll be okay. If we lose or draw then we're fooked.
Daggers Posted 11 April 2008 Posted 11 April 2008 The noise will be there no question - but there was plenty of noise a Sheffield too. Go get a half of Barbars, Thracian, to top up your half-empty glass
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 11 April 2008 Posted 11 April 2008 Safety. Around this time last year, I really got back into supporting city after years of disinterest post-Filbert Street. The Birmingham City home game (the only game I went to last year) "reignited my fiire" if you will, and knowing that the prospect of relegation was very real back then, I was shitting myself, and we were in a better position then. I'm more confident this year than I was last year.
