Steve McClaren

I think there's a hell of a lot of people who are shouting out that McClaren would be a poor appointment without thinking what they are saying.

That's right - a 50% win-rate would be brilliant.

...but considering the person who started the rumour is a know-nothing dick, the person who started the thread lives on football rumours and that McClaren is away at the Euro's it is all seeming a trifle ridiculous to be discussing it.

Ferguson and Ince have demonstated clearly what is obvious. Nobody worth a light is prepared to work for that clown Mandaric. Unfortunately this club is going to have to appoint someone desperate.........Simon Grayson excepted.

McClown can f*** off I would rather have Gregory!

:crylaugh::frusty: Don't be silly.

Who are we to pick and chose our managers? We are a shit League 1 outfit. If McClaren does come, then I'd welcome him with open arms. I'd rather have him than a little nobody manager from League One.

Have to agree, McLaren didn't do so bad as 'Boro manager & has been under the wing of Fergie & Sven. I'd take him over some of the other names that are being thrown around. I think we should count ourselves lucky to get someone like McLaren, hopefully Ince turning us down has opened some peoples eyes that were going to be very lucky to get a half decent manager.

Not quite. We've had several managers who tbf have been nobodies. We get McClaren - we get the press laughing at how we've taken on board the twat who couldn't get England qualified. We'd have more press attention than ever and everyone would just find it hilarious that out of all the candidates we ended up with him.

It better be a rumour.

erm england qualification? world stage! Leicester city 3rd tier of the english stage...x man u coach and a prem manager.....grrr him or gregory?

I'd call an FA Cup Semi final, a UEFA Cup final and a League Cup pretty amazing.

It's incredible that some of the people on here think we're better than McClaren! I'd be amazed if he came here! England manager to League 1 Leicester lol

I do not blame Steve Mclaren for what happpened with England. I blame Brian Barwick for appointing him. Steve Mclaren was doing a solid job with a Premiership team. That is all. I said it at the time and I'll say it now, he was no where near ready for international management. He did his best, and it was never going to be good enough, he was out of his depth. However, he's still more than capable of managing in the Premiership, after all, Sven proved its possible to do a good job there after being sacked (despite the fact he was then sacked again but that's another story).

We have to remeber we are a League 1 club, and personally I feel that Steve Mclaren would be a great appointment. He was out of his depth with England, but is still a capable manager for us.

That said I'd be very surprised if he was actually interested.

now I don't think this is true for a minute but the thing about being away is surely nonsense IF I decided now in Grantham I wanted to go to Zurich I could be there by 18.30 local time today train to London - Heathrow - Zurich job done for £150.00 the travel thing is not an issue in my book

Seconded. That sums it up fairly well.

Also massively in his favour is this - http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2006/may/08/match.sport13 - which we could learn a thing or two from.

Did really fooking well as a club manager - Carling Cup, Uefa Cup Final, Record high finish.

England was too much for him but anyone that turns their nose up at him because of that is a bit of a goon. We're a league one club. Would be a cracking appointment.

Not gunna happen though.

I agree!!

Just got back from holiday in dubai and was in same hotel as Kevin Blackwell. After having a dig at him about not beating Southampton i had a good chat with him and he's actually a nice bloke.

He says that he would never have took the Leicester job because of Mandaric but did say that at least it doesnt harm your reputation that much if he fires you because he does it all the time, so people who are desperate are the only ones interested.

I have a real bad feeling about this, but i really think that John Gregorys going to get this job! I hope im wrong!!!!

Too many people seem to have a totally media-influenced, distorted view of McLaren after his England failure.

I think we can all admit he was a terrible manager for our national side and it was a shocking appointment from Barwick but lets not forget how he got there in the first place, via a UEFA cup final with Boro (Boro for ****s sake!). Anybody who can turn them into European finalists deserves some credit.

I for one would be pretty content with McLaren as our manager in League One, however I think the likelihood of this actually happening is very slim.

Fair point but just have a look at how much money he spent in his time there, its an absolute fortune!

Yeah I see where you're coming from, but that's just the Premiership these days.

For me it would be a good appointment , if not maclaren then its got to be billy davies. mclaren cany be judged on what he did to england , he wasnt a big enought personality to deal with big name players but lets face it we are not a big club anymore we are where we are for a reason . lets hope he can get us back to where we want to be.

I'd like to think we're a big enough club for this to happen, but I really don't think we hold such appeal, even as a stepping stone.

There's only a couple of feasible appointments that would genuinely excite me and this is one of them.

'but it's not going to happen' etc etc.

If Ince has no interest in the job then what makes us think that Mclaren will go from England manager to a league 1 club with a notoriously impatient chairman.

The English media slams every national team manager, so I'm not sure what's so special about the McLaren hatred (remember, we're talking about a media that liked to pick on Sven-Goran Eriksson, and how many matches did he lose after full time?). He really didn't do an awful job overall, it was just that in when it all came down to that last game against Croatia, he made a few terrible decisions when choosing his starting lineup considering both his personnel, opposition and weather conditions. That was the big game, that's the result everyone will remember and because of one poor game, everyone remembers McLaren as being strategically and tactically inept and perhaps even stubborn (although a couple of howlers from his keepers during qualifying didn't help matters). Some of my English friends didn't even wait for the final whistle let alone the next morning's tabloid headlines to text their friends back home that they "hope that f*****g c**t McLaren gets the electric chair." :o

Agreed, agreed, agreed and agreed--if Mandaric names McLaren as the new Leicester manager I'll .... well I won't commit myself to do something crazy like "If McLaren gets the Leicester job, I'll run around naked at the opening of Highcross Leicester." I'll just be pleasantly shocked, that's all.
