andyh1884 Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 http://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/sport/P...d-to.4191844.jp PETERBOROUGH United's hotly-anticipated home games against Leeds, Leicester and Millwall next season will have their kick-off times brought forward to help prevent hooliganism in the city. Within hours of the League One fixture list being announced Cambridgeshire police requested the new kick-off time, with officers meeting Posh director Barry Fry to thrash out a plan to prevent off-field trouble on matchdays. The two sides agreed to bring forward the games against Leeds United on October 4, Millwall on Boxing Day and Leicester City on March 28, next year, to noon, from their scheduled kick-off times of 3pm. Posh director of football Barry Fry said: "The kick-off times have been brought forward on the advice of the police. "We have to work together, and we're happy to go along with that because we want to protect the city of Peterborough. "Leeds, Leicester and Millwall fans have a reputation, and we want to give them less time in the pubs before kick-off." Police said the three clubs had a record of disorder and their fans were "less than well behaved" last season. Chief Inspector Nick Knight said: "Bringing the kick-off forward will reduce the amount of time fans are in the city, and will reduce the amount of drinking time they will have prior to a match. "The idea is for them to go straight to the ground when they arrive, enjoy a game of football and go home, instead of heading for the city centre, causing trouble and stretching police resources." All three clubs are expected to bring thousands of supporters to London Road for their matches against Posh, and at least 100 officers are likely to be called up to police the ground and the city centre. Nice to be singled out with Leeds and Millwall

Guest Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 I hope the police are not planning on ruining my birthday celebrations.
SamL Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 The only real trouble last season was at Coventry, other than that there wasn't really any. Hooliganism? I thought those times were gone? The game should be on Sky which is handy for those who can't make the game but I think it's a complete over reaction by the Police.

Shrenchel Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 Utter bollocks. Now the plod can attribute the fact that there isn't any trouble to the early kick-off time and proclaim themselves heroes.

Dr The Singh Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 It's abit far fetched, I suppose it's small town mentality, the police\club obviously can't handle the situation or are not willing to finance it!!

davieG Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 Expect more of the same. To all those who have ever eulogised the baby squad and other like minded people this is the consequences of their behaviour - so a warm thank you to them and you.
Floating Fox Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 Davie, Whilst I'd echo your sentiments, this has nothing to do with 'hooliganism' really. Its a ploy to stop fans from drinking and becoming "Rowdy". All it means is that everyones gonna head to the offy and get wankered earlier, meaning more losses for pubs. In some cases they have even stopped the pubs from opening early to accomadate the early kick off. Free world right?
Daggers Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 I hope the police are not planning on ruining my birthday celebrations. We start drinking at 6am and then have more time in the pub afterwards to celebrate the win! Wahey!

Within hours of the League One fixture list being announced Cambridgeshire police requested the new kick-off time, with officers meeting Posh director Barry Fry to thrash out a plan to prevent complete apathy on matchdays. The two sides agreed to bring forward the games against Cheltenham Town on October 4, Swindon Town on Boxing Day and MK Donns on March 28, next year, to noon, from their scheduled kick-off times of 3pm. Posh director of football Barry Fry said: "The kick-off times have been brought forward on the advice of the police. "Cheltenham, Swindon and MK Dons fans have a reputation of either not turning up for matches or falling asleep, and we want to give them less time in the pubs before kick-off." Police said the three clubs had a record of lethargy and their fans were "less than well turned out" last season. Chief Inspector Nick Knight said: "Bringing the kick-off forward will reduce the amount of time fans are forced to spend in the city, and will reduce the amount of sudoku and crossword time they will have prior to a match. "The idea is for them to go straight to the ground when they arrive, enjoy a free camp bed and complementary shower and go home refreshed, instead of having to watch silly football and stretching their arms up." All three clubs are expected to bring 2 supporters to London Road for their matches against Posh, and at least 100 officers are likely to be called up to ensure they are not disturbed.

Daggers Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 It's got everything to do with hooliganism as that is what gives them the licence to take this sort of action. Damn right - I know for a fact there was one fool who had drunk so much before the Cardiff game that he fell over three times on the terrace. This kind of behaviour is unacceptable and brings a shame to the club. Of course, what they could do is allow everyone to carry on their lives as normal and then just arrest people who do bad things. In fact, I am so in favour with that plan I'm going to go out on a limb here and state that we should arrest more bad people.
Raj Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 We are not that bad. I think this is an over reaction. I dont know about that pal. Have you not met LilDave3? he's a fcuking trained killer. P.S we took 10,000 to Boro years ago......it was my first away game!
