OriginalRobboFOX Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 I see him as an absolute legend and enjoyed watching him over the years. I was gutted for him when he was stripped of the captaincy at City for all the red cards etc. and when Taylor booted him out of City, but I was equally delighted for him when he scored all those goals as an emergency centre forward (esp. those two against the Shaggers) and everything else you did for the club. Think we can all agree that he was an absolute colossuss, a true City legend. However, if he becomes embroiled in the merry go round that is the City managerial hotseat, all be it as an assistant, I fear for his reputation and adoration amongst City fans should things not work out. I wish he just stay behind the scenes a bit more. I just dont think he's ready and would hate for things to go tits up for him. Dont do it Steve!!

Zingari Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 i'm flying in the face of popular opinion ; go for it walshy
Jon the Hat Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 I do not believe in the move to Spain and play golf route into management. Sorry. No thanks.
Ric Flair Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Walsh is a legend and the abuse he has taken for poking his nose in on the radio is a little unfair in my opinion. He's passionate and some of the stuff he's said live on air is exactly what a lot of our fans have written on here. Some say, it's probably made matters worse by criticising the club and players etc, but brown nosing this club like most people associated with it, is a fookin disgrace as well given the under achievement. Very dubious about him coming in as Assistant though, especially to a dog like Gregory. It's likely to be a disaster and it would be a shame for Walsh to be part of that. I think it's nailed on to happen though. Which tickles me somewhat, Mandaric is frightening me. I do not believe in the move to Spain and play golf route into management. Sorry. No thanks. Keegan's had some long stints away from the game without a care in the world.
Zingari Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 I do not believe in the move to Spain and play golf route into management. Sorry. No thanks. whereas the orthodox route has brought us management of high quality
Moreton Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 I do honestly think that at some point in the near future, who ever comes in as manager, Mr Walsh will be taken up in some sort of coaching role... ...and will work his way up the coaching staff untill he becomes the Leicester City manager

Get Walshy in!!!
blue blood Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 He has the stence of desperation when it comes to him being Leicester manager, he talks too much shite, I agree don't do it Steve!!!! agreed.
ROB-THE-BLUE Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 As much as I loved Walshie as a player and respect his passion for the club I think it would be a risky appointment and one that may annoy Gerry Taggart slightly as he's already got his coaching qualifications and has done an excellent job with the reserves. Walshie would be too emotionally led and tactically unaware. Plus I feel sick at the thought of John Gregory being the boss
Phlashman Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 People just don't think this through, how wouuld it feel when results aren't going to well and you want him to go? The Kop chanting Walshy out? that would be the day the club died. The only way I'd want him employed by the club is as Birchs underling/replacement. Rather than looking to the legends of the past lets look to the future for our next legend, someone who brings that passion that Walsh did.
Hitesh Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 I think he is one of a few people who could install passion into the players. The players need pride, the hunger to play for City and I think he would be a great motivator. Someone good to have in the dressing room I think. Him and Taggs would give a better atmosphere and install the never die spirit we used to have. They must have learnt quite a bit under MON and I think it would help. All we need is a tactical man who actually knows what he's doing - I dont think John Gregory is that man. Maybe Nigel Worthington or Larry would be though.
Mark Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Maybe under Grayson, they'd know each other and at least he is proven tactically able in recent times. If he comes in with Gregory it'll only end in tears, the crowd will be chanting "Walshy, sort it out", like they did with Taggart even though he's just the assistant.
Katy Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 I have to agree with most on here, as romantic as it sounds having Walshie as assistant or even manager, it really wouldn't work. The guy loves us and we love him but with no coaching badges unfortunately passion alone wouldn't see us through I don't think. I would hate the fans ever to turn on him. Maybe he could be the next Alan Birchenall

Maybe he could be the next Alan Birchenall Anyone who would turn on Walshy who claims to be a LCFC fan would be a 1st class koont. Coaching badges are a joke Alex ferguson never got coaching badges neither any British Manager who won the European cup or Champions league with a British club Badges don't win matches, Bryan Robson, Peter Reid have coaching badges! I would love Walshy to be a part of LCFC as he is owed by the club after he was kicked out by Peter "koont" Taylor. Also are the other candidates are poor at best, so what is the harm?
davieG Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 The reasons Gregory would want Walsh is because he knows that he's not universally welcomed and Walsh would act as a barrier to that and to cover his back when he inevitably fails to meet Mandaric's impossible expectations.

I don't think we hate Gregory at all, just that he has not produced amazing results at other clubs. Walsh is the big man around town at Leicester, Hero is not an understatement for many who watched him blay with passion pride commitment and courage in our shirt.

This may be true but it does happen unfortunately. I still think walshie would be better off working in another capacity at the Walkers than being assistant Manager or whatever. I don't think we hate Gregory at all, just that he has not produced amazing results at other clubs. Uncle Albert Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 All I want to know is, why do people think if Walshy has some involement then things will go 'tits up'?
Lillehamring Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 However, if he becomes embroiled in the merry go round that is the City managerial hotseat, all be it as an assistant, I fear for his reputation and adoration amongst City fans should things not work out. People just don't think this through, how wouuld it feel when results aren't going to well and you want him to go? The Kop chanting Walshy out? that would be the day the club died. and this is exactly the mentality at this club that has driven us into this hole: firstly, this assumption that it is going to go badly, and even worse, this predetermined plan to slag him off if things get a bit tricky... shame on you! if walshy does become involved in a period of failure for this club, and lets face it he's a big enough man to step up when that is exactly what we are in, i'd like to think that i have enough respect for the man to not resort to dissing him. in fact, i think it is more likely that people will forgive him things we would be critical of other managers for doing. nothing walshy could do would make me want to rip him apart - and if he became boss, failed and was sacked, i'd still hold him great esteem as a player and a personality. christ, planning his downfall before he's even started

Simi Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 No. No. No. No. Keep him away, anyone can shout on the radio and say some things need to change. Getting him in with Gregory would be a disaster for us I think. No experience of working as a coach at a club and working with people who aren't always going to have the same ideas. When he doesn't get his way I doubt he'll take it that well. It would only be a sweetner for the deal, which quite frankly is embarrasing. Stay away and keep your status, or go get some badges.

C-man Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 I'd like to see Walsh, I think it'd be a risk that could well pay-off.
