Jonezy Posted 21 August 2008 Posted 21 August 2008 Seriously, is the best we can do really Chris Powell..... Oh my......
Tomassi Posted 21 August 2008 Posted 21 August 2008 why does everyone think chris powell is a bad short term solution to joe mattock if he signs? thats why hes on trial see if he can still do a job!
davieG Posted 21 August 2008 Posted 21 August 2008 why does everyone think chris powell is a bad short term solution to joe mattock if he signs? thats why hes on trial see if he can still do a job! Probably because he never got picked up by Bournemouth - for whatever reason. I guess it depends on what LCFC view as short term, if it's very short, say 3 to 6 months we'll still have no cover for Mattock later on in the season and if it's longer term 6 months upwards people are perhaps concerned about his ability to stay the course and remain injury free.
Mark Posted 21 August 2008 Posted 21 August 2008 why does everyone think chris powell is a bad short term solution to joe mattock if he signs? thats why hes on trial see if he can still do a job! Cause we've seen this type of signing far too much at Leicester City, and just when you think they're turning the corner up pops another one.
Ric Flair Posted 21 August 2008 Posted 21 August 2008 Lads, lads, lads. What you need to realise is that Chris Powell is here for 5 days. In those 5 days he'll at some point come up against Max Gradel, now if he stands his ground and keeps him quiet then he'll be good enough to defend against any winger in this division. If he has a mare against Gradel and he has his pants down, then Pearson would be a fool to sign him up, even if Max is better than your average winger in League One. Let's see what happens. Powell at 38, hardly inspires me, but Pearson's not got it too wrong yet in the market so let's see what he's playing at.

I wouldn't mind if we coudl just get him on a 1 month contract or something while we look for a better option. Can you do that? Offer one month permanent contracts? I know you can with loan

Offer one month permanent contracts? I know you can with loan i think that could be similar to non-contract, where you pay them and if the club wants to terminate the player or another club comes in for them they can go with no negotiations. We did this with Billy McKinley and Nicky Summerbee in 2002

Unabomber Posted 21 August 2008 Posted 21 August 2008 you can do what you like,he can be on pay as you play if you like,or even play for free That sounds acceptable.
Jackirius Posted 21 August 2008 Posted 21 August 2008 we dont want him using his oap bus pass to get to the ground every sat , he must be soo old know
mmarkie Posted 21 August 2008 Posted 21 August 2008 Well big nige seems to be impressed with him.In his interview I think we need him in before Sat so he's eligible to play.
dandannieldanok Posted 21 August 2008 Posted 21 August 2008 Can't see why everybody slated Clapham and called him terrible, yet wouldn't mind Chris Powell who couldn't get a contract in League 2. Tunchev wasn't great at left-back but blimey he is a far better solution than Powell. That said I'd still howl with laughter if signed him up for whatever length of time.
Father Ted Posted 21 August 2008 Posted 21 August 2008 Signed according to knowitall. And knowitall has very much a 100% record.
Unabomber Posted 21 August 2008 Posted 21 August 2008 I look forward to seeing him bomb down the wing.
Legend_in_blue Posted 21 August 2008 Posted 21 August 2008 I don't see what the problem is here tbh. If he can do a job for 8 weeks and do it well against teams of nobodies during that period of time, great. If he can do the job well, NP thinks he can obviously, then it's what we need.
Jonezy Posted 21 August 2008 Posted 21 August 2008 Its actually happening... Oh well, guess we have to trust Nigel on this one even though this doesn't exactly fill us with excitement...

Asha Posted 21 August 2008 Posted 21 August 2008 Wouldn't be too annoyed with this. He might get away with his age more in this league. He wasn't offered a deal at Bournemouth but that might not be because they didn't think he was good enough....they're on a tight budget and maybe they couldn't put together a deal. Powell was in the Charlton team toward the end of last season and even scored. As mentioned, we should sign him on preferably like a week-by-week or non-contract. Decent enough temporary solution for the LB in my opinion.

I don't see how NP can really judge how good or how fit he is, it appears that Powell has only been here for a day or two. For me it just exposes the poor planning to begin the season with just one recognised left-back, who is only 17 and was always going to be subject to speculation about his future. And as for "teams of nobodies", let's just take a look at Powell for a minute, aged 38, wasn't brilliant in his prime anyway, recently rejected by a team in the league below and probably had trials elsewhere too, I'm pretty sure any right winger would fancy their chances against him.

I'm sure most city fans would disagree with that. Last season was poorly planned. If there is not a LB available on the market and you've got a young, promising player in Mattock for the position, it's no surprise to me that during pre-season a quality player for that position was unavailable. Especially so considering our current league status. You can't just pluck LBs out of thin air and expect them to play second fiddle to Mattock for a season in L1. As a temporary fix, I can't see there being a better option.

The People's Hero Posted 21 August 2008 Posted 21 August 2008 What a ridiculous situation to get ourselves in. Yeah! Fancy not knowing that Mattock would get injured. Perhaps their crystal ball wasn't working that week. Maybe you should get your Alan 'greatest left back in the world' Sheehan crystal ball reconfigured?
