Absolute *** of our time Pt.MXXVI

If you've ever spent just a single over night stay in a hospital, you will realise just how little pay NHS workers earn in relation to their output.

I've spent time in hospital, I had months visiting my mother in and out of hospital and I certainly wouldn't say the staff were overworked, their pay isn't bad either.

Because a high salary, unrivalled pension, cast iron job security and healthy promotion prospects just aren't enough these days.

The representative on Sky News wasn't great, if it's not about money don't spend the whole interview talking about money, I've still not heard a decebt argument as to way Saturday should see substainally increased pay for Doctor's either?

Already seen a "socialist workers" banner at one of the pickets, what a cast iron way to swing public support against you.

The accumulation of time I've spent in hospital over the years must be close to 6 months now, and I can honestly say, that only on a few occasions have they seemed over worked in relation to their pay. Particularly when I had to spend 4 days/nights in the LRI a couple of years ago and I was mistreated so badly it has now become a joke and people don't believe the story. It wasn't down to being overworked either, it was pure negligence, lack of care and idiocy.

My missus was in LRI for about 3 nights last year and her treatment was absolutely abysmal, she had near enough zero attention, was discharged a day late for no given reason, meals served incomplete and late (won't comment on the "food" itself as that's clearly prepared to a strict budget). When we originally went in and on subsequent visits to see her, numerous staff and nurses on the ward were just chatting amongst themselves and I had to interrupt them to be seen to. They certainly were not overworked

They're  not over worked with patients but with paperwork

If that's the case, fair enough, I can't comment on that.

Absolutely shocking at times. It gets even worse when they just say 'it'll be alright', and hook you up to antibiotics you tell them you're allergic too, resulting in your legs swelling up, lose your blood samples 6 TIMES (if I recall correctly), being ignored, having your operation put back 4 times, with one of the excused being that you're too malnourished to go in for it....no sh1t Sherlock, you've starved me for 3 days waiting for the damn operation and keep putting it back!

Junior doctors are not responsible for the meals, discharge times, or for keeping nurses working.

You'll be surprised that some may have to/already have to, in some cases - such as the current staff shortages - it's true at the LRI and also the QMC.

But again, why should Junior Doctors get more money for a Saturday? I'm not trying to be an arse here, working in the NHS isn't a normal 9-5 job, all sorts work on Saturdays in retail, the police do, the firemen do, they don't get extra pay for it.

And as for the "patients are not being put in danger" bit - the hospitals themselves seem to disagree with that given they have tried to call them back in on an emergency call out ( http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-35291226) I think I'll believe the actual hospital over "Dr Rant", who I'll bet a pound to a penny isn't a doctor..

Junior Doctors clearly have some causes worth supporting here, certainly the ridiculous amount of hours they work, but aligning yourself with the hard left back on picket lines shouting for extra pay on weekends doesn't seem to be reasonable. Now they have decided to abandon negotiation and take this action I hope the government dig in.

Worth mentioning as well that 40% of Junior Doctors have gone to work today according to the BBC, so despite the huge vote to strike, nowhere as many appear to have carried out the threat.

That's probably about representative of union membership these days. I reckon only about 60-70% of our workforce are union.

Fair point, suppose those who join unions will tend to be more militant as well than your average Jogesh.

But makes you think, READ THE DATES:

He was  the main suspect in the case of missing Genette Tate, 13, last seen in rural Devon in 1978.

The delivery girl's newspapers and bike were found but her body has never been discovered.

Black was arrested but there was not enough evidence to bring charges.

We now know he murdered four other children during the 1980s and was suspected of other killings.

He was convicted of a failed abduction in Nottingham in 1988.

Black was caught in 1990 when police found him with a six-year-old girl bound and gagged in a sleeping bag in the back of his van. He had just sexually assaulted her.

The ****er got off as in 1994, he was found guilty of killing 11-year-old Susan Maxwell, from the Scottish Borders, five-year-old Caroline Hogg, from Edinburgh, and Sarah Harper, 10, from Morley, near Leeds.

Only a Conservative would compare the work of a Dr to a retail business, as for negotiations with this government you are having a laugh, look at their workload and responsibility expected of them.Perhaps if you can afford private medical care you are not worried about the NHS but the country is not in a mess due to the greed of NHS staff, Police,Fire Brigade,Teachers, Council workers etc is it.

I run a Post Office so happy for you to explain the  caring side of this government lol

So you can't actually answer my question then? Again, why all of a sudden should certain NHS staff members be paid extra money on a Saturday in an industry that widely is not regarded as a Mon-Fri 9-5 job? Re: negotiations, they have been handled terribly by both sides but it's the BMA negotiating, not the actual doctors themselves.

And the country is in a critical financial mess partly because of the cost of it's public services which far outweigh the tax intake that it's citizens are raising and has been for some considerable time, sorry to tell you but the bankers didn't run up the 1.5 trillion debt by themselves.

I won't go any further with Post Office staff, who in my experience pretty much define the word "useless".

As someone who thinks they know everything about everything tell me what is wrong with Post Office staff? Actually it is a bit like the Health Service with HMG wanting a service open all hours but not wanting to pay for it. Of course we could talk Post Bank and project Merlin, how many hundreds of billions does the government own up to wasting on that to prop up their banking buddies.

You try and put a value on a Doctor and when it is your well being that goes up some what. Some of their issues need addressing some they need to accept but relying on their good nature hardly motivates a long term solution.

I did use the words "in my experience" if you read the post, I've used the post office a handful of times and found the service pretty appalling when it comes to getting things delivered, fortunately the customer can go elsewhere these days.

You could use that last line about anything really, but unfortunately we live in a World where things have to be paid for, you can't just blow every penny the country has on things because you say a person might need a service one day, in case you haven't noticed the general public already do paid for Doctors, Teachers and Policemen, a fact that seems to pass by a lot of people.

The Post Office doesn't deliver the post that would be Royal Mail, different company.
