Head Honcho Posted 30 August 2008 Posted 30 August 2008 Well I saw a white stretch limo with what appeared to be drunken females in? That's obviously not why we noticed it like... But yeah, we saw it so you probably saw me. You lucky chap. Ha ha I was actually in the car behind it and thought I'd spotted you.
Corky Posted 30 August 2008 Posted 30 August 2008 Don't want to be a party pooper, and, we can only play the teams who are put in front of us.. BUT, Let's not get carried away! It was a very, very poor Cheltengham team, who look as if they will be fighting against religation this season. We failed to break down an also poor Stockport side remember! We are playing well, so far yes. we will face much stiffer opposition this sason. wait till we play reams like, Carlisle, Oldham or Leeds. Then, and only then, will we be able to judge have we are progressing. I see it as progress because had it been last year, we'd have gone there and probably played for a point, or struggled for a win. Now we've gone there and thumped them good and proper.
lildave3 Posted 30 August 2008 Posted 30 August 2008 Ha ha I was actually in the car behind it and thought I'd spotted you. Instantly recognisable me
Bert Posted 30 August 2008 Posted 30 August 2008 I am never going on the train again, FACT!Fantastic day out though nevertheless, support was decent nothing more 2nd half and terrible in the 1st half by our standards. But the whole day was made by the train broking down, massive de-tour, name game, Tevez communicating with chinese people, bernie his usual self on the train, maybes getting to know him Jut another fantastic day out Oh: and the wolves fans at the station and on the train. OH MAXI GRADEL!! Name game - easy. Cheltenham Spa - Loved the chinese and Tevez. We got raped. <_< 'cos you weren't on my team.
Flynny Posted 30 August 2008 Posted 30 August 2008 But this wasn't in any way a peak peformance. More a warning across the bows of Division One football. What a thrill it should be when they hit the finishing straight. I know what you mean here. If we can continue something like this blistering form until January, Pearson's task is going to be ironing out our inconsistancies and turning us into a more lethal attacking team that can feed off the more limited chances we'll get back in the Championship. But those inconsistancies could yet cause our form to dip and make this season far more than a formality. I don't know if it's frightening or frustrating that we could actually be significantly better yet. I know thinking about promotion is premature, but my mind seems to be stuck firmly on the division above and I can't really help it. I find it difficult to regard this season as much more than a chastening lesson and an oppurtunity to regroup for another attack on the league above. I wasn't really excited listening at home until the 3rd and 4th goals.
Teeno Posted 30 August 2008 Posted 30 August 2008 Was a quality day out, the train home put me in a right mood. Was gutted because I sobered up and had my sensible head on and decided not to go out tonight on the lash wish a whole roll of duck tape holding my cast together. Where was everyone else when we were smashing up Jaiger bombs in Yates's at 11 O clock this morning? tut tut
brookfox Posted 30 August 2008 Posted 30 August 2008 Brilliant result, just what we needed to keep the ball rolling. Our recent run really highlights the importance of confidence in football. As a fan, I'm now going into games expecting us to win, not in an arrogant way, just confident we can do the business. Imagine how that mentality must feel for a player crossing the line to play?! Gilbert summed the mood in the camp well when he said MK Dons might bring a good team but we'd be better! The players (and fans) now have that confidence and I'm loving it!!
Tilley Posted 30 August 2008 Posted 30 August 2008 Tevez, Trying to ask a chinese man, Have you got, FACE BOOK
Bert Posted 30 August 2008 Posted 30 August 2008 Tevez simply made the day better. The dancing in Burger King was second to none.

Guest Posted 30 August 2008 Posted 30 August 2008 Just got back to London after various detours of dropping people off etc. after the match. What a top day! A fantastic 4-0 win, Dyer was immense again, and our fans were great again today Think a couple of beers might be in order now though
Corky Posted 30 August 2008 Posted 30 August 2008 Let's get another win on Tuesday, then rough up Millwall (in footballing terms ).
Guest Posted 30 August 2008 Posted 30 August 2008 What I couldn't get my head round was the bloke next to me fell asleep for the whole match Woke up for the 4th goal I think. Think there might've been 1 too many before the game
Joe. Posted 30 August 2008 Posted 30 August 2008 Only just got round to commenting on today, first of all fantastic day, and a great performance. It was brilliant to see us come away with a 4-0 win away from home, especially when it comes with us being top of the league and Derby, Forest and Cov losing. Fully deserved win, with great performances from Lloyd () and Hobbs.
Mickey O'Neil Posted 31 August 2008 Posted 31 August 2008 Can anyone who went tell me, did we attack the end with City fans in, in the 2nd half?
Ultra Posted 31 August 2008 Posted 31 August 2008 Magnificent day out. Fans drank the pub dry of beer () and the players played Cheltenham off the pitch, despite Pearson fielding our best defender at left-back and our best goalscorer on the wing. Hobbs and Morrison were immense though. They looked like they'd been playing together for years! Oakley is at last looking like the class act that graced the Premiership for many years and Dyer terrorised the home defence whenever he got near the ball. The only disappointments were Howard's ludicrously-disallowed header and Fryatt's horrendous open-goal miss in the first half, which briefly looked like it might cost us. He did make up for it later with the free-kick though. Considering only FIVE of the fourteen players on show at Whaddon Road were at the club last season, it's remarkable how quickly the side has settled. Full marks to Pearson and his coaching staff for turning things round so quickly. On the evidence not only of this game but of the two before it, our charge for the League 1 title is already under way. As long as the squad stay fit, that charge will not be derailed any time soon!
Daggers Posted 31 August 2008 Posted 31 August 2008 Can anyone who went tell me, did we attack the end with City fans in, in the 2nd half? Attacked our end in the second half... ...(which makes any comments about Fryatt's opportunity at goal after rounding the keeper redundant seeing as working out the angle was impossible unless you were in the Cheltenham end). I think people are too disparaging of Nam. For a good portion of the first half they were equal to us and mounted attack after attack. Their finishing was woeful but the rest of their play, especially down the wings, was good. Frequently they were first to the ball and harried brilliantly, unsettling Oakley throughout the first-half resulting in a pretty poor 45 minutes from him. This is a team who beat Leeds home and away last season, one of those when Leeds were at their most rampant. I was simply relieved that the powerhouse Josh Low was unable to play yesterday.

Doesn't matter who it is against, a 4-0 away win is something special. Our first since Derby in 1997/98.

Simi Posted 31 August 2008 Posted 31 August 2008 Also, for all those Oakley doubters - he got a goal today and nearly scored another one! To be honest, he had a poor first half, but by all accounts made up for it in the second half. For me, performances from Dyer, Hobbs, Gilbert and Howard were very good. Thought Tunch looked a little shaky at left back but he'll improve in time, when Powell came on he got forward better although his crossing needs time to get down to perfection again. Dyer's directness was breathtaking to watch and I thought Dickov did ok wide right and wasn't afraid to drop off Howard. The Cheltenham centre halves couldn't cope with Howard. Every ball he pretty much won and if he didn't win it, it was because he was fouled, which happened on several occasions. Very unlucky to get his goal chalked off because he fully desvered it and you can see how much it meant to him. All in all, another fantastic away day when our support woke up second half. FOXES!
Thracian Posted 31 August 2008 Posted 31 August 2008 There's no doubt Oakley had a better second half than first. But then I thought we committed more to attack in the second half and, without wishing to be over-critical of Dickov, Gradel offered an additional passing option. What has pleased me most about Oakley this season is that he's getting the ball more and is really starting to push himself forward, confident of his own imporoved fitness no doubt, but also of the fact that King will be aware of what he's doing and provide some cover with the same happening when roles are reversed. Times in the seasons past I've wondered why we chopped and changed players so much and why we never took the time to develop real partnerships. Under Pearson we've got several. Howard/Fryatt; King/Oakley and Morrrison/Hobbs/Tunchev and the benefits of having players with an understanding of each other's game and style of play is there to see. I don't think it's realistic to expect central midfielders not to make mistakes by misplacing/wrongly weighting passes on occasions or misdirecting shots especially when they try to make things happen. But what we've got now with King and Oakley, and which we didn't have before, is two players taking responsibility in unison and both showing the confidence to try the difficult pass and to break forward and have a shot instead of passing the buck by staying back from shooting positions and passing the ball sideways and backwards as has so handicapped us in the past. Both seem to achieve this within a framework of sustained general effort and quiet efficiency when it comes to the bread and butter task of containing and breaking up attacks.
