Cheltenham Town v Leicester City Post-Match Thread

There's no doubt Oakley had a better second half than first. But then I thought we committed more to attack in the second half and, without wishing to be over-critical of Dickov, Gradel offered an additional passing option.

What has pleased me most about Oakley this season is that he's getting the ball more and is really starting to push himself forward, confident of his own imporoved fitness no doubt, but also of the fact that King will be aware of what he's doing and provide some cover with the same happening when roles are reversed.

Times in the seasons past I've wondered why we chopped and changed players so much and why we never took the time to develop real partnerships.

Under Pearson we've got several. Howard/Fryatt; King/Oakley and Morrrison/Hobbs/Tunchev and the benefits of having players with an understanding of each other's game and style of play is there to see.

I don't think it's realistic to expect central midfielders not to make mistakes by misplacing/wrongly weighting passes on occasions or misdirecting shots especially when they try to make things happen.

But what we've got now with King and Oakley, and which we didn't have before, is two players taking responsibility in unison and both showing the confidence to try the difficult pass and to break forward and have a shot instead of passing the buck by staying back from shooting positions and passing the ball sideways and backwards as has so handicapped us in the past.

Both seem to achieve this within a framework of sustained general effort and quiet efficiency when it comes to the bread and butter task of containing and breaking up attacks.

I'd add Gradel and Gilbert as a partnership as well. They complement each other very well. I've hardly seen any threat from the opposition left side during the three matches I've seen so far this season (MK Dons, Stockport cup and Tranmere).

Oh, and this was quality.

Properly done, and at the right time too.

Didn't understand a word of that!!

Why the chants of "We're the rent boys?"

Hate the chant - sorry.

Still, it's good we do something for supporters who can't remember lots of words.

I hate it when it's done in the same stand, but when two different stands of support do it I think it's quality.

My cousin is a Cheltenham fan so I had a slightly different angle on things. I think some of our fans have shown them a bit of disrespect given that their record signing cost £50,000 for example. With 9 minutes left we brought on a £1.6million striker. It was no great victory with specific regard to their lack of quality but it's always pleasing to see your team cut loose and get a score like that - and let's face it, we do it very, very rarely. He told me before the game we'd win by three goals and I said we never seem to do that (could have won by the same scoreline at Stockport, as Pearson said after the game, but didn't) - hopefully the confidence is building with every game.

I liked the way all the players joined in the celebrations and there looks to be a real unity about the squad. I would be tempted to see if a Championship club want to take DJ on loan though as he doesn't seem to fit at all.

Was nice to get a text from my cousin after about an hour asking if they could stick another ball on the pitch so Cheltenham had one to play with too. :D

Great day out, got a good video of Fryatt's goal too which I will endeavour to upload somehow unless the Ninja Mods aren't happy with it.

Over the last couple of seasons, following City has become a chore. With the exception of the odd false dawn, I haven't enjoyed the last few years.

However, I got up yesterday, and I couldn't wait to get to the game. I genuinely felt optimistic, and justifiably so. Pearson has restored my faith in the team, and in such a short space of time. It's like I've been taken back to the early 90s!!

All in all, it has been a good weekend!

It's just a shame that we don't have a league game for another 2 weeks. With this good form, it would have been nice if could keep the momentum going.

I don't think the boy should or could find a Championship club to take him...but he has to go out on loan or be sold as he is lost here; His runs are purposeless, he has no awareness of where the ball or other players are.

Last season he had excuses for his poor showing - there are none now and his goodwill credit at the Bank of Daggers has long since ceased.

Get shot of him...or send him to a strikers' repair centre because he is one broken forward.

He needs a consistent run in the team which i don't think he has had since he joined.

But with Fatty and Fatty playing so well, and Dicky we don't really need him.

Me and my girlfriend went down to the game, couldn't get tickets in the city stand so went into the Cheltenham standing area (£15, not bad!) and stood right next to our fans, which i have to say were great and so loud......brilliant game, some great displays by our lads, the banter we were having with this group of Cheltenham fans was funny at the start but they started getting a bit pissed off with us, which was even funnier, we didn't care by 4-0 and really started giving it to them, brilliant day! :P:D

No Championship club will touch him, apart from maybe hopeless and desperate clubs like Norwich and Southampton and the likes. Other smaller clubs like Plymouth can't afford his wages.

Forget League One, no one can afford his wages down here either. So we are stuck with him. Great.

Every manager thinks they need another striker - I reckon someone would take him. Doubt it will happen though so a redundant argument.

People who went to the game how did Howard and Oakley play yesterday?

I thought Oakley had quite a good game, sprayed a few passes in the wrong direction but took his goal well. I thought him and King had a pretty decent game together.

Howard, I thought, was one of our better players. Put himself a bit and his movement was generally good. He would have capped off a good performance had it not been for his goal being controversially disallowed

Great day out on the train. Shane Wilkes, Maybes and Muz....banter on the train.

Train station is too far from the ground, 40minute walk....greulling.

Bert and I did make a vocal appearance on BBC Radio Leicester, I'll have you know!!

Does anyone have a link to watch the goals??

1 - you don't have to post the same question in multiple threads

2 - have you tried looking on the bentley's roof site which is where they normally always will be if they're available?
