Ajax Treesdown Posted 30 October 2008 Posted 30 October 2008 Just heard from a close friend who lived near him in Great Glen that Tricky Trev is pretty much bankrupt and is playing for Northwich Victoria for £200 a week. Apparently his house has had the bailiffs round. What a fall from grace. I still see his kid round glen with his mates. Also found this on wikipedia Benjamin had trials with Cheltenham Town, Gillingham and Bournemouth at the start of the 2008–09 season, but failed to earn a contract at any of the three clubs. Bournemouth manager Jimmy Quinn said of the player, "He's not what I'm looking for, he's probably past his sell-by date." Chin up Trev!
Wasyls Pec Deck Posted 30 October 2008 Posted 30 October 2008 Blimey...shame really. I'm sure he 'do a job' at Bournemouth, their my closest team (geographically!) and are absolutely gash, they'll be semi pro next year as their still in negative points. £200 quid a week...jeez

Chin up Trev! according to the supporters trust of Northwich he has been shown the door today as they can't afford to pay him. to be honest though last season for Hereford he got 10 goals in 34 games which for a big striker isn't a bad effort but like many footballers he seems to be in free fall at the minute. It's strange how many fringe players from the top couple of leagues just vanish and struggle to get a club these days I mean look at Elvis (ankle) I mean surely he could do a decent job for a league 2 or conference side
dandannieldanok Posted 30 October 2008 Posted 30 October 2008 according to the supporters trust of Northwich he has been shown the door today as they can't afford to pay him. True. VICS have cut two members of their playing squad due to the current financial situation hitting the club. Trevor Benjamin and Michael Byrne are the players that have been shown the door. Benjamin only joined Vics on October 10 after leaving Hereford United at the end of last season. Byrne has been at the club since February 2005. Stand-in manager Mike Marsh said the club had no choice. "Due to the financial situation at the club we have had to release the both of them", he said. "It's disappointing and it's not nice to put people out of work. "It is part of the cost cutting exercise at the club and unfortunately part of that is to get players off the wage bill and Michael and Trevor were the ones decided on." Quite unbelievable, he's only been there since the 10th of October
syston_fox Posted 30 October 2008 Posted 30 October 2008 The thing is that he was never actually that bad a player and did a good job for us in the championship and was doing a really decent job for Hereford last season. I can't understand why he's just not cutting it with some of these teams because Im sure he's not become an awful player in the space of a few months!

I'll never forget his performance on the left-wing against Birmingham after the La Manga incident where we won 1-0 , he tore Oliver Tebily a new ar*ehole. Just read this on wikipedia, "He signed for Leicester City (where his work rate and goal celebrations saw him become something of a cult figure)", couldn't have put it better myself.
ousefox Posted 30 October 2008 Posted 30 October 2008 My cousin goes to school with his son and i was asking about big Trev. He says that that they still live in a massive house.....
davieG Posted 30 October 2008 Posted 30 October 2008 Well if he's broke I have no sympathy fro him as I'm sure he's earn't more in his short career than I did in my 40+ years even taking into account inflation and different times. I also saw a TV programme when he was at Leicester or maybe just after he left with his wife showing us all the expensive junk she'd bought for their house.

Trev really did work hard for us and I loved him while he was here...... But you're right.
davieG Posted 31 October 2008 Posted 31 October 2008 Trev really did work hard for us and I loved him while he was here......But you're right. I liked him a lot we certainly haven't had many as committed as him playing up front since. Who can forget Sheff Utd away - almost heroic status.
Master Fox Posted 31 October 2008 Posted 31 October 2008 Incredible really Just more proof that this world is completely insane when you look back at the £1.5m paid for Trevor Benjamin and the £200,000 for Elvis. When in reality they were nothing more than local pub team players no better than you or me.
hairy Posted 31 October 2008 Posted 31 October 2008 I am sorry to hear this. See his family in the village all the time and the lad is often down the park playing football or in the skate park. While he may have earnt and spent a lot I wouldn't wish this on anyone.

That’s what you get when brainless cretins like Trev have money to spend. They probably wasted most of it on ‘bling’ and other types of trashy nonsense shit.

I'm shocked, he's been in the business for over 10 years, and he hasn't invested any of it, not even a home for himself, this can't be true!!!! How foolish!!!
