Cropwellfox Posted 6 November 2008 Posted 6 November 2008 "Leicester are set to sign free agent defender Marc Edworthy for the rest of the season. (Daily Star) " Hardly an exciting addition to the squad, but at least we'll be able to get Hobbs back into the centre of defence I suppose....

How long is Gilbert actually out for btw?
Daggers Posted 6 November 2008 Posted 6 November 2008 Too true, will be decent enough back up for Gilbert. How long is Gilbert actually out for btw? Wheen is his court case?
Asha Posted 6 November 2008 Posted 6 November 2008 Marc Edworthy's 35, and retired in the summer. Is there no-one better at a reasonable price or free?
Unit Posted 6 November 2008 Posted 6 November 2008 Wheen is his court case? Think it said january somewhere, shouldn't effect us though, isn't he only here til christmas?
Ric Flair Posted 6 November 2008 Posted 6 November 2008 Think it said january somewhere, shouldn't effect us though, isn't he only here til christmas? He's here for the season. Edworthy? I'll reserve judgement on him.
RizLCFC Posted 6 November 2008 Posted 6 November 2008 Fair enough he plays at right back and even though he is 35, he may be able to do a job for us as I don't like Hobbs at right back anyway, but, this morning the BBC gossip column says we are ready to sign him on a free, and on wikipedia, it says he is a retired footballer? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marc_Edworthy http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/g...ers/7712361.stm
Thracian Posted 6 November 2008 Posted 6 November 2008 I'm sure Edworthy's going to provide us with pace and overlapping ability on the right! Up to now of the options available I'd sooner have Luke O'Neill or Lee Cox. At least it would be serving some purpose and I wouldn't think it impossible for the coaches to deal with any signs of inexperience. Put it this way, and after all the experiences at City since Levein days, I'd rather put my faith in up and coming players than down and going ones. With rare exceptions I've been underwhelmed by the old time pro's we've had at Leicester during that time. Douglas, Maybury, Kenton, McAuley, N'Gotty, Horsfield, Newton, Cort, DeVries, Clemence. They'll hardly be remembered as heroes of our time. But Pearson's an old pro. They tend to turn to people they know and remember. Tried and trusted is considered less risky than a youngster. And there you are again...fear raising its ugly head again! If we're not careful we will lose out on promotion for failing to have the courage to play to our strength, which is in attack in numbers and with conviction. To do that we need fast passing and mobility everywhere. The more we slow the team down and the fewer players we have who are quick to support, the harder our task will be.
Rocky Dennis Posted 6 November 2008 Posted 6 November 2008 Cue City fans moaning and whingeing about Edworthy being too old and past it, lets all judge him before he's kicked a ball!!! 2 words: CHRIS POWELL
Mark Posted 6 November 2008 Posted 6 November 2008 Cue City fans moaning and whingeing about Edworthy being too old and past it, lets all judge him before he's kicked a ball!!!2 words: CHRIS POWELL Is that supposed to convince otherwise? Steady eddies won't get you promotion.
Zingari Posted 6 November 2008 Posted 6 November 2008 didn't knowitall tell us this a few weeks ago ? http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=54262
carterfox90 Posted 6 November 2008 Posted 6 November 2008 are we turning into dads army fc have'nt we down this road before at the end of micky adams's reign it did'nt work for him but as some say lets wait till he has kicked a ball for us to be honest i have been very impressed with powell since he has come
Corky Posted 6 November 2008 Posted 6 November 2008 Why didn't we go for Steve Whitworth instead then?
Jaspa Posted 6 November 2008 Posted 6 November 2008 Why do we buy so much old Derby? Are the yanks there just selling up and MM see's a way to hold back some cash?
RowlattsFox Posted 6 November 2008 Posted 6 November 2008 If we sign Edworthy we will have 3 players who you'd class as 'old', none of whom will be first choice and people are saying we are turning into dads army. Ridiculous.
Rocky Dennis Posted 6 November 2008 Posted 6 November 2008 Is that supposed to convince otherwise? Steady eddies won't get you promotion. Well, that particular 'Steady Eddie' was part of our table topping side, but I spose your're right, weve been far better now that Powell has been dropped for the wonderboy Mattock
Wasyls Pec Deck Posted 6 November 2008 Posted 6 November 2008 When I saw this I got a similar feeling when we signed Chris Powell......whose turned out to be a decent acquisition.
Thracian Posted 6 November 2008 Posted 6 November 2008 Cue City fans moaning and whingeing about Edworthy being too old and past it, lets all judge him before he's kicked a ball!!!2 words: CHRIS POWELL I deliberately left Chris Powell out of my list of disappointments. Although, that said, I wouldn't say he's particularly ambitious going forward most of the time. Mattock is more adventurous but still lacks the defensive knowhow of Powell, at least judging by his peformances in games I've seen.
dandannieldanok Posted 6 November 2008 Posted 6 November 2008 He'd be a terrible signing, unlike Chris Powell, Edworthy wasn't particularly good in his prime. It's even worse when you see the gossip just below this: "Leeds are poised to sign Preston winger Simon Whaley on loan." Now that would be a cracking signing for League One, better than Gradel.
