Two large hotels are apparently under the control of terrorists, with Western guests being held hostage. Mumbai's anti-terror chief has been shot dead. The hotels in question are pretty exclusive establishments, reports suggest an EU trade envoy has also been shot dead. Some repors suggest that the Indian Army is preparing to storm the hotels. Early suggestions are pointing the finger of blame towards Hindu extremists, who have been responsible for attacks on Christian groups recently, but nobody seems entirely sure. Some of the terrorist cells, who have attacked seven sites so far, are believed to have escaped in police vehicles. Grenade attacks have also been reported. It is also thought that a hospital has now been targeted.

Im off travelling in 2 months and flying back from there but not until jan 2010 so hopefully things will have calmed down.

Apparently the terrorists were asking who had British and American passports which suggests an Islamic link. This is going to end horribly I imagine.
