xxinxsxx Posted 7 December 2008 Posted 7 December 2008 Hi all does anyone know where joe was yest????
Fox92 Posted 7 December 2008 Posted 7 December 2008 I thought that when they read the team news out. But then I thought was it because of Powell's 750 game? Still, I haven't got a clue.
Lovejoy Posted 7 December 2008 Posted 7 December 2008 Even as an OAP, I thought Powell played better than Mattock.
Jonezy Posted 7 December 2008 Posted 7 December 2008 Stringer said he was ill on the commentary, if I remember correctly.
Simi Posted 7 December 2008 Posted 7 December 2008 Mattock has been really inconsistent this season, obviously linked to the injury though. At the moment, I'm more than happy to see Powell playing, doing a solid job.
Chairman of the Bored Posted 7 December 2008 Posted 7 December 2008 Chris Powell rocks. Obviously a great bloke as well. Nice touch to thank the Southend fans after game. Keep him in the side so long as he is fit and able. Carlisle away, number 751....
Dan Posted 7 December 2008 Posted 7 December 2008 I can only imagine that they played Powell because it was his 750th game, and they played it against Southend because its one of his main old clubs. Almost like a testimonial infact.

Almost like a testimonial infact. Thought bringing him out on his own was a very good touch, I personally hadn't even heard it was his 750th game. Would have been capped off lovely if they'd let him have the penalty at the end

Koke Posted 7 December 2008 Posted 7 December 2008 They said that he was ill - suffering from man flu.
lildave3 Posted 7 December 2008 Posted 7 December 2008 With Fryatt still on the pitch, Powell had no chance. I know, I can't even argue with Fryatt about that tbh. Just saying, 750th game and against his old club - would have been perfect timing to get a rare goal.
Legend_in_blue Posted 7 December 2008 Posted 7 December 2008 Powell is better than Mattock. If he has a bout of man-flu, perhaps he was sitting in the stands taking notes on Powell's display.
Thracian Posted 7 December 2008 Posted 7 December 2008 Powell was nothing special yesterday. I watched him particularly during a 20 minute spell of the first half and he so often elected to play a gentle, floated 25-yard pass and four of them in succession went straight to the opposition. His support play was okay - consistent and fairly sound - but only once did recall him getting past Dyer on the outside. Mattock hasn't been great either but I honestly doubt there would have been much between em yesterday. Mattock offers a bit more going forward and Powell is perhaps a little more canny when defending but while both are okay I don't think it's our strongest position.
Bert Posted 7 December 2008 Posted 7 December 2008 With Fryatt still on the pitch, Powell had no chance. It would've been nice for Powell, but I don't even think you or Ben would begrudge Fryatt a hat-trick? If Fryatt was off, Howard would've wanted the penalty anyway I'd imagine.

Nah, I didn't mean it like that. Fair play to him for wanting his hat-trick.
Fatbloke Posted 7 December 2008 Posted 7 December 2008 Give me strength !!!! I truly dispair, one of the finest YOUNG left backs in the country, an England international but is it good enough for City`s moaning, whining fickle "fans ???" no, in answer to the pre slag Joe question, he was unwell.

CosbehFox Posted 7 December 2008 Posted 7 December 2008 one of the finest YOUNG left backs in the country, Watched him play lately then? At Scunny, he was chuffing awful
dilko2008 Posted 7 December 2008 Posted 7 December 2008 Watched him play lately then? At Scunny, he was chuffing awful to be fair he has not had a great game for a while,
Simi Posted 7 December 2008 Posted 7 December 2008 to be fair he has not had a great game for a while, You're right, but he is still learning. Having someone like Powell here will hopefully be doing him no end of good and we'll be able to see signs of that next time he gets his place back in the team, which I'm sure in time he will.
Tommeh Posted 7 December 2008 Posted 7 December 2008 Delete. Hacker. Yes you are still logged in on my main pc!
J.Lisemore Posted 7 December 2008 Posted 7 December 2008 i would rather have Powell over Mattock due to the fact Joe is very inconsistant and is still learning.
King Cal Posted 8 December 2008 Posted 8 December 2008 He was sitting in the box that Dion Dublin came out of. The was Joe, Maxi, Nicky Adams, Hendo and Sappleton i think.
