I've been following Leicester for over 40 years, and it's rare for a player other than a striker or a goalscoring winger such as Sinclair or Lynex to get to double figures in goals scored.

Gary McAllister's done it four times, Muzzy twice, once each by David Nish, Bobby Smith, Paul Reid, Ian Banks, Steve Thompson and Matt Elliot. Best I can see is twelve by McAllister, Thompson and Smith.

I suppose any record set ths year will be judged in context, but assuming he stays with us and stays fit, you would expect King to exceed this figure comfortably.

Early days, but I rate the guy, we've been crying out for a goalscoring midfielder, and you can sense the expectation whenever he has the ball within forty yards of goal.

Virtual ever present, 2nd in the goal scoring list - What do people think now?

He still needs a haircut, or at least style it

King never appears to do anything of note during a game but then pops up with a goal, so either he does a lot of unnoticed work and I need to pay more attention or he is poor a lot of the time but as the fantastic ability to take up great goalscoring positions and a good finish.

Despite his goal return, I'm not convinced he will be able to play at a higher level, I'm not sure why though.

If he keeps banging in important goals you can't seriously complain really.

But the way Oakley and Davies are playing (loan extension permitting), he's really being overshadowed in games, although that's not anything to be embarrassed about the other two are playing higher Championship football stuff.

Frustrating is a word I'd use to describe King, the boy has some talent and a decent technical ability and he's always good for the odd goal. However when he is rushed he is poor, I don't think I've ever seen him go past a player with a bit of skill, he bottles challenges, never dictates a game (ok, i'm probably asking too much of him now).

So you didn't go to S****horpe then?

Fact: Andy King is 20

Fact: He has scored some cracking goals this season

Fact: He complements Oakley, and now Davies, nicely; he doesn't need to beat eleven men in a dribble, others can do that

Fact: Too many City fans are too quick to jump down our players throats

FFS!!

Seeing as when he posted that, S****horpe was still three weeks away, I doubt it :P

Surely our fans have the ability to see into the future?

I cant believe a few people are saying he is nothing more than a League 1/Championship player. Jesus he is only 20 and has been probably the second stand out player this season apart from Fryatt.

Give the lad a break.

Perhaps this was an occasion where a new topic might have been advisable.

I myself think that it perfectly shows how little patients footie fans have with a player.

Not suprising really in a society based on instant gratification.

I personally think King is quality, however I conceed (and fully expect along with a few other younger players)

another dip in form somewhere in the season. I just hope the fans stay patient with all the young players

we have.

King has improved game by game , his goalscoring ability is invaluble and if Mattocks a £3 million player then King should at least be on par .

I think there is a general lack of patience not just amongst city fans but footy fans these days with both players and managers. Everything is instant and disposable. People slated Stearman last season forgetting he was already the clubs longest serving first teamer at only 20 odd! These guys, inclucing matty fryatt really are still learning so much and still developing physically and mentally. I really rate Andy King and think his destiny will be in the Premiership along with Stearman and Matttock. Whether that is with us is another matter. Yes they will make mistakes, have rubbish performances, display immature petulence, etc but that is to be expected at this stage in their lives. I think the whole set up at city from the coaching side to the fans is not ideal for producing and nurturing young talent. After all even with Manderic's millions we are a selling club and need some variety of income to make sure administration doesn't hit us again. I would like to think that Pearson will start to change this.

I swear some of you lot must be on drugs. Halfway through the season the guy has 9 goals and he is only 20 years of age ffs! When is the last time we had a goal scoring midfielder? We sit on top of the league on 51 points and some are still not happy. Leicester must have the most fickle fans in the country.

Realised this years ago. Not everyone is though  .

How dare you call me fickle, i bloody love Leicester.

EDIT: I bloody hate Leicester.

At the time this thread was started, King was doing just OK. He has raised his game in the past 2 months scoring more goals. So in that respect, he has done really well.

I've always liked King but he left me sceptical back then but he has proved me wrong. But I must say 2-3 months ago, the criticism was justified and not over the top.

King is proving his ability in so many ways and it is such a pity both our managers and our fans showed so little faith in him last season before we got relegated.

But those people haven't learned. The same people who had no time for King or Stearman have already shown their impatience with Gradel and Porter, two players who should definitely have remained involved with our team (barring some unknown situation).

Not that it matters much. Neither the fans nor the club will change and from Mandaric's point of view I wonder why he even maintains the Academy now, instead of saving himself the expense of running it.

Our club is all about experienced players and loanees now and it certainly won't be easier for the Under 18 graduates next season if we win promotion.

Even this season we've preferred people like Adams and Dickov to Gradel while leaving Dyer with no competition from Porter or Gradel despite Dyer's indifferent form for most of the last month.

As mentioned in another thread recently, if Gradel and Porter aren't good enough I really cannot see anyone on the horizon who is.

Lee Cox maybe but we preferred to use loanee Edworthy when Gilbert was injured. Joe Mattock? Has he really come on this last 12 months? Hard to say with what has been such an interrupted cycle.

Who else? Odhiambo? McKay? Beswick? Sappleton? Chambers? Kee? Logan? They've barely been heard of. It's as if their careers hit a brick wall.

And if, as I suspect, none of them come through then I just don't know what purpose the Academy will serve in terms of our first team for as far ahead as I can see.

Craig King?, Luke O'Neill? Are either going to be better than, say, McKay, Odhiambo, Gradel, Mattock, Cox? I really don't mind being wrong but I'm not convinced.

What King's been given in the last two months is a bit more assistance when the opposition crowds midfield.

He's benefitted from that but, apart from improved confidence as a result and a bit more strength and attitude in the tackle, he's not done a lot that is different in those two months.

His goals have come across the season mostly in ones.

Pearson always liked him even from pre-season because he was a dicciplined, reliable, non-ball-watching midfield player who made simple passes quickly but could also head the ball as defender and attacker, could shoot coolly under pressure, could become a more attacking or defensive player according to circumstances, could if required deliver a special pass and who had the engine to last 90 minutes even if he was less than quick.

On top of that he showd himself mature enough not to get involved in altercations with players or referees and could therefore be relied on and he clocked up the games without any record of niggling injuries.

A final thing was that he looked at the scene around him and fitted in easily with other players and their different styles. In other words he tried to compliment what is going on around him.

Added together with his consistency and that's a lot of qualities in a young player, and precious few weaknesses.

King looks a hell of a lot more influential when he's not having to defer to Oakley when paired with him in the centre. King/Davies is much better, Oakley's stepped up his game out on the right, and Lloyd is vital to provide the width, movement, and threat of pace that creates the space for the rest of the midfield, even if he's having an indifferent game. Calls for Lloyd to be dropped are preposterous, he's been no worse than average and is vital tactically.
