J.Lisemore Posted 9 February 2009 Posted 9 February 2009 What's the general thought on how we're going to do next year? It's going to be much harder to contain teams in the Championship than in League one obviously.I would like to think that we're going to be heading for the top 10 next season while building up a young strong side. Lets take it back to O'neil days where we fought for everything, we never gave up and never stopped playing till 90 minutes plus stoppage time was done. Well, i'm thinking around mid table, but lets not get carried away as Pearson would say.
carterfox90 Posted 9 February 2009 Posted 9 February 2009 lets get there first then worry about it but when & if we get there we will need to strengthen with at least 3-5 class players
lookwhaticando Posted 9 February 2009 Posted 9 February 2009 Let's get promoted first. It's a premature thoughts thread... saying "let's get promoted first" is totally besides the point. It's kinda like saying "you've still got a lot to live for" to someone who just popped his clogs.
Sir Fynwy Posted 9 February 2009 Posted 9 February 2009 I hope we sign some of the loan players. If they dont sign i would of thought they would go back to their clubs, i bet they wont loan them to us in the championship. Does anyone know why it is that you dont really get decent players loaned to you in the championship, but in league 1 we do? If we sign Hobbs, Cleverly, Gilbert? then i think we have a good chance in the champonship, if the work ethic and passion is thereWho knows tho! It's about the manager and his use of loanees, would you loan a decent prospect to Holloway? Next year we should still get some good loans because we have used them well this year and developed them as players.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 9 February 2009 Posted 9 February 2009 If we can get Eardley for next season I'd be happy. I was well impressed by him on Saturday. Apparently he's attracted Premiership attention though. I think we can sneak in on the play-offs next season.
maddog Posted 10 February 2009 Posted 10 February 2009 Precisely. Still a way to go yet. Cautious optimism is the way forward We already are promoted. Look at the, table, we are 55 points clear of 3rd place S****horpe with a maximum of 54 points left for them to get. At least thats what some people think
StanSP Posted 11 February 2009 Posted 11 February 2009 Let's get promoted first. Precisely. Still a way to go yet. Cautious optimism is the way forward That's why it's called Premature thoughts. We are banking on the likely happenings that we will get promoted, hence all the talk about playing in the Championship
Edmund Posted 11 February 2009 Posted 11 February 2009 I'm shocked to hear that we will need to strengthen the team if we get promoted I'd never have noticed. I wonder if other teams getting promoted in the past had the same problem, here was me thinking we'd put together a team to win the Premier League straight off in 2 years time. I think we should all send emails to Nigel, his team and Mandaric and warn them. Not normally but we do have a lot of loan players who will leave gaps in the team.
BottCasualLcfc Posted 12 February 2009 Posted 12 February 2009 I rekon we should have a gander at Lambert from Bristol Rovers, Cos were gona struggle to keep Fryatt
maddog Posted 13 February 2009 Posted 13 February 2009 Keith Gillespie on trail at Leeds. He is still a quality crosser and better than anyone we have at the club. Steal him from Leeds 1 year deal
sbfox Posted 13 February 2009 Posted 13 February 2009 Keith Gillespie on trail at Leeds. He is still a quality crosser and better than anyone we have at the club. Steal him from Leeds 1 year deal Eugh... I'd rather not. We need to stick with the youth policy we've largely employed this year!
J.Lisemore Posted 13 February 2009 Posted 13 February 2009 Keith Gillespie on trail at Leeds. He is still a quality crosser and better than anyone we have at the club. Steal him from Leeds 1 year deal Been there done that. If he did come he would only even up like Dickov.
StanSP Posted 13 February 2009 Posted 13 February 2009 I rekon we should have a gander at Lambert from Bristol Rovers, Cos were gona struggle to keep Fryatt Why will we struggle to keep Fryatt? He had a crap time in the Championship. This could work in our favour. Teams might think the same might happen again when we get promoted. I think we'll still have him next season. After all he is contracted to us, which means his value is currently higher. Keith Gillespie on trail at Leeds. He is still a quality crosser and better than anyone we have at the club. Steal him from Leeds 1 year deal Do they want to get promoted or not?!

Do they want to get promoted or not?! i just Keith Gillespie thats all He can cross consistently well unlike any of our squad. Gradel can cross but hes way too inconsistent, and never plays anyway. Dyer, Oakley, neither can cross. Adams has a better cross than them and NP has loaned him out
colbo68 Posted 13 February 2009 Posted 13 February 2009 I honestly think we will be in the top 10 of the Championship next season, and I'm hopeful of a play-off spot. I think we will have some cash to spend, and if we sell a few players Mandaric might stump up 4 or 5 million. And I trust Nigel to buy 3 or 4 decent players in the summer. I might be wrong but I trust that no matter who we sold Nigel would replace them with better players. As long as we don't sell Tunchev or King I will be happy. I also think that Nige will get some even better players in on loan for next season from Premier clubs. Having said that, at the start of last season I thought we would be challenging for a play-off position! I think we will have some cash to spend I dont think we'll have much to spend at all - the club is going to make a big loss again this season - I fear it will be about loan signings once more
Filberts lovechild Posted 14 February 2009 Posted 14 February 2009 Think we definately need a striker. I think Beckford from Leeds would be alright but he looks like a bit of a dickhead off the field. I just can't wait to see Tunch back, us in the Championship and him eating the strikers for breakfast, literally!
leicesterseddon Posted 15 February 2009 Posted 15 February 2009 our spine is better than last season - with the tunch, morrison, king and oakley we at least have the foundations of a decent team next year. we will need a goalkeeper (as martin is going back and no one looks odd-on to replace him), a striker and a couple of wing backs/full backs. and we need to get the remaining deadwood off the wage bill.
AjcW Posted 16 February 2009 Posted 16 February 2009 Dreamland: Cox and Mckail Smith.... Reality: Like the guy above said i dont think well have much to spend so its probably going to be loans.
kimsalabim Posted 17 February 2009 Posted 17 February 2009 We need another 16 point first in League One (at the very least)
StanSP Posted 17 February 2009 Posted 17 February 2009 We need another 16 point first in League One (at the very least) Oh come on!!! It's premature thoughts!!! Pretend we have enough points!!!!
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 18 February 2009 Posted 18 February 2009 Can anyone find a comprehensive 'players with expiring contracts list' for the summer - I wouldn't be suprised to see a bit of a revolving door again in terms of playing staff.
