Joe. Posted 14 February 2009 Posted 14 February 2009 Seriously, what's happened to him? His performances in the last five months have become beyond poor, especially of late. The guy lacks confidence in every single area; he no longer beats his man on a consistent basis, he no longer manages to get any crosses in and he's so easy to play against for a full-back it's embarassing at times. His lack of right foot at the moment is making him a welcoming customer for opposition defenders of late. It's not just a blip either. Pearson's stuck with him for all this time despite putting in poor performance after poor performance and I'm not quite sure why. I know we're hardly brimming with quality wingers at the club at the moment but literally anybody could do the job he's doing. I was not on my own when I loved Lloyd Dyer at the start of this season. He had success coming his way through not only through goals game after game, but through general impressive performances and he was a real asset to the team. Now though it's like he's a completely different player. Me and LD3 came to the conclusion earlier he's been Space Jam'd and Carlton Cole had stolen his ability. Seriously though, I don't know what's happened to him, but it's not good. If he can't cut it in League One then he's got no chance in the Championship. I don't like saying this because we've seen what he can do, and I know he can do it, but why he hasn't been showing it for the last five months is puzzling. We need the old Lloyd back.

Daggers Posted 14 February 2009 Posted 14 February 2009 The lad needs a breather and competition for the place.
davieG Posted 14 February 2009 Posted 14 February 2009 The lad needs a breather and competition for the place. He's not right!
STUHILL Posted 14 February 2009 Posted 14 February 2009 Pleased Pearson has stuck with him and backed him all this time but it obviously isnt having an effect and so I think he needs to be dropped! He doesn't even look like he wants the ball at the moment. He looks half the player he was. Berner looked more effective but for me someone with bags of confidence and willing to do what wingers are sposed to, is Gradel. Start him tuesday night!!
Anish Posted 14 February 2009 Posted 14 February 2009 Time for Dyer to be dropped. Although I didn't see today's game, I've seen enough in the last few months and he's clearly not cutting it. I always had an issue with him drifting and cutting inside rather than staying wide left (which I can't understand because he's so one footed it makes no sense to cut onto his right foot). Give Mattock a game at left midfield, because at least he'll go on the outside and cross the ball, something that is severely lacking with Dyer.
DBEightyFive Posted 14 February 2009 Posted 14 February 2009 He looks very tired. Also, he's drifting too far in field and when we do go down the left flank, there is no one there and Mattock or whoever is at left back has nowhere to go.

Koke Posted 14 February 2009 Posted 14 February 2009 He needs to get laid, seriously. I believe that's the root of the problem, the guy is getting no fanny. This is a perfect time to put on Max Gradel and give him a chance to prove himself. I believe Nigel is considering that.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 14 February 2009 Posted 14 February 2009 Put Gradel out there and bring Berner into the centre of midfield. Cleverley to right back / benched.
dilko2008 Posted 14 February 2009 Posted 14 February 2009 i think cleaverly is looking quite sharpe and should play
Flynny Posted 14 February 2009 Posted 14 February 2009 He didn't look anything worse than average during the games I got to over Christmas and New Year. He's been figured out a bit and doesn't have much other than his pace in his box of tricks.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 14 February 2009 Posted 14 February 2009 i think cleaverly is looking quite sharpe and should play I think Berner contributes more to the overall team. He oozes calm.
dilko2008 Posted 14 February 2009 Posted 14 February 2009 I think Berner contributes more to the overall team. He oozes calm. play a midfield then of Gradel Cleavley King Berner
maddog Posted 14 February 2009 Posted 14 February 2009 Pearson clearly likes to stick with the same team regardless of performances. He said on radio he doesn't want to change his tact now. He should definately drop Dyer and Howard for the next game though.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 14 February 2009 Posted 14 February 2009 play a midfield then ofGradel Cleavley King Berner But Oakley was so impressive on the right, and King was just as good when next to Berner. Cleverley contributes nothing more to the team over them.

barmy76uk Posted 15 February 2009 Posted 15 February 2009 I think Lloyd Dyer was punching above his weight at the start of the season,he was released from a league 2 side and that is his standard! Gradel should be on the left as he is a far better and skillfull player. We need to get dj back or a finisher as Fryatt looks out of it at the moment,he needs a couple of games on the bench.Howard is playing well at the moment,Dickov should be released as he offers us nothing!
Thracian Posted 15 February 2009 Posted 15 February 2009 Time for Dyer to be dropped. Mattock doesn't have the pace to operate as a winger. He used to play that role in the Academy but was found to be better suited to the attacking full-back role with Ryan Beswick (a genuine crosser and passer of the ball) ahead of him. It's certainly true that Mattock needs to get into midfield and support attacks more tellingly but he really isn't quick enough to be more attacking and that lack of sustained pace means he's vulnerable if any move breaks down. It wasn't so bad when we had Tunchev because the Bulgarian was so quick to recognise potential problems from counter attackers and so calm and assured in dealing with them. But neither Hobbs nor Morrison have the same class which means that whoever we play out wide has to have either the pace or the vision (or both) to unlock defences either by going past people or by passing through and around them. I don't know how long he'll stay on punishment block but Porter is the best alternative for passing the ball - he and King are the best passers in the club by a distance - and Gradel should be a permanent option because in half-hour spells he has the potential to unlock any defence given the licence to try. Nicky Adams is a further option. Not that I'd abandon Dyer. He just needs the manager to refocus him and take the need away for him to pace himself through 90 minutes by having alternatives on the bench. If that was the case he could really have a go for one half or so and then let someone else take over. I don't see either why Nicky Adams shouldn't have a bench place too cos I'd rather see more attacking options on the bench than our limited options yesterday. Quite apart from the seriously underperforming Dickov why, for instance, have N'Gotty on he bench when I'm quite sure Berner or Andy King could fill in at centre-back in an emergency - certainly against the lone striker most opponents deploy and while our central defenders miss out central midfield in any case.
Tilley Posted 15 February 2009 Posted 15 February 2009 Hmmmm. He just isn't anywhere near the standard he was at the start of the season. He was scoring goals, beating his man, his crossing was good & he was full of confidence, what has happened I don't know. He needs to be dropped I'm afraid. Pearson needs a word with Gradel & tell him this is his chance to step up in the limelight & it is his time to shine.

Corky Posted 15 February 2009 Posted 15 February 2009 Dyer is badly in need of a break. I don't think he's become complacent, just struggling to find form. All players go through it, and I'd like to see Gradel given a go on the left. Dyer still has a lot to offer when he gets his form back.
