Darkzzz_ Posted 11 March 2010 Posted 11 March 2010 Brilliant Lyon stun the bank of Madrid, I had stupidly tipped them to go all the way. They'd be better off making a bid for the trophy. United had it all too easy last night, Italian football has been enjoyable for me this season, but money is a major factor. I guess they aren't playing the right game in deciding to have home grown owners, managers and players, things will improve in Europe. United out of the English teams to win it.

People were already saying the squad age should be brought down after their last CL triumph, yet were still seeing the same oldies trotting out for them. It's clear that most if not all of them are over the hill. Out of their current 'young' players we've seen in Europe this season, I think only Pato and Thiago Silva have showed glimpses of their quality, but even their displays have been inconsistent. It's high time for the club to replace the old guard...

The youth system they have is phenomenal and if they can spend some money they will attract top players. Italian football isn't as powerful as it was with the shift of power being in the Premiership but every league has its cycle of dominance and Serie A is showing signs of recovery, it just needs a team or two to really give Inter a challenge instead of a false charge.
Alexikokopops Posted 11 March 2010 Posted 11 March 2010 Well you learn something new every day, when did that change? Would be the League 2 play-offs on Saturday I think. The Championship play-off final has been bought forward a week because of the World Cup. It's on the same Saturday as the Champion's League final, and the League 1 and 2 games are the usual weekend on the Saturday and Sunday.
Simi Posted 11 March 2010 Posted 11 March 2010 Saturday 22nd May Championship Play-Off (3.00pm Wembley) Champions League Final (7.45pm Bernabeu Stadium, Madrid) Wow. Whether we're in the play-off final or not I will be in the pub from opening time for this!

See this is what really baffles me. If it wasn't for them giving long and ridiculously expensive contracts to players that are either past it or just not good enough, they'd probably have a lot more to offer potential new signings. Why they've kept players like Dida, Jankulovski, Kaladze, Favalli, Oddo and Amborsini who were average to decent IN THEIR PRIME, is quite odd. I don't even want to think about what these has-beens are earning. Even the iconic figures of Inzaghi, Zambrotta, Gattuso and Nesta are looking like shadows of their former selves. I just noticed they had bought Flavio Roma this season, a 35 year old keeper who was always going to be third choice. What's the point?! I suspect Berlusconi may have something to do with this, but it's a mystifying transfer policy they've had for the past few years...
FoxyPV Posted 11 March 2010 Posted 11 March 2010 I'd hate to be a liverpool fan - so much misguided hope every year and then the inevitable constant disappointment. Constantly harking back to the past to justify your masochism and furiously jealous of your main north east rivals (Man U) and if they go out of Europe this year and fail to get 4th spot Gerrard, Torres etc could all leave. Brings a tear to my eye
Benji Posted 11 March 2010 Posted 11 March 2010 It's pretty embarrassing to watch really. They just can't be arsed, hardly a chance made all match.
The Doctor Posted 11 March 2010 Posted 11 March 2010 Saturday 22nd May Championship Play-Off (3.00pm Wembley) Champions League Final (7.45pm Bernabeu Stadium, Madrid) isn't the championship play-off final usually on the monday?
FoxyPV Posted 11 March 2010 Posted 11 March 2010 isn't the championship play-off final usually on the monday? it's usually on the monday because it's a bank holiday
Alexikokopops Posted 12 March 2010 Posted 12 March 2010 isn't the championship play-off final usually on the monday? Yes, but it's not on Bank Holiday weekend this year The Championship play-off final has been bought forward a week because of the World Cup. It's on the same Saturday as the Champion's League final, and the League 1 and 2 games are the usual weekend on the Saturday and Sunday.
Anish Posted 12 March 2010 Posted 12 March 2010 The Champions League final on a Saturday is a stupid idea. Everyone knows night matches are more special and the Champions League final is the pinnacle of all the night matches. Let's face it, there's plenty of things people could do on Saturdays (instead of watch football), whereas a Wednesday night is perfect for football on the tele. I hope UEFA realise it's a huge mistake and revert to the Wednesday night final from next season.

Darkzzz_ Posted 16 March 2010 Posted 16 March 2010 Brilliant, delighted for Inter. This is great for Serie A too. Sky going on about no Italians in the side but Chelsea don't have many English players and then there is Arsenal... ;-) Good work Jose.
purpleronnie Posted 16 March 2010 Posted 16 March 2010 Inter were a class apart. Terry still run's about like a headless chicken. Hopefully Barca can win too.
BlueSi13 Posted 16 March 2010 Posted 16 March 2010 Horrific result for Chelsea tonight, really puts pressure on Ancelotti now, only winning the Premier League will keep him in his job i reckon, if not i expect a Mourinho return during the summer

Jimothy Posted 17 March 2010 Posted 17 March 2010 Looks like Drogba is getting a 4 match ban for the sending off last night. He has a suspended 2 match ban from the Barca game last year, when he had a go at the ref. Seems harsh, not even sure he should have gone last night, let alone it activate his suspended ban. Him missing nearly all the group stage will be a huge loss for Chelsea.
Darkzzz_ Posted 17 March 2010 Posted 17 March 2010 Jose gave an excellent interview after the game, brilliant stuff. Disappointed Sevilla went out last night but credit to CSKA who played some tidy stuff. So can Stuttgart upset Barcelona tonight? I doubt it but you never know it this beautiful game.
