mmarkie Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 Howard suspended. Yeh just read that sorry so i'd start Hayles instead of him then. with Chambers or Dickov on the bench more likely to be the latter.
Corky Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 Warner Gilbert Hobbs Morrison Mattock Cleverley Oakley King Gradel Fryatt Hayles Subs- Pentney Kisnorbo Dyer Chambers Berner
James. Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 No Kisnorbo thanks. I actually thought Morrison was decent yesterday. Corky's team looks about right.

Cobbo Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 On a sidenote - it was never a booking. It was the Millwall players acting like a bunch of faries after an earlier challenge he had with the centre half, saying he'd elbowed etc when all it was was an aerial challenge. So of course, next time he has a 50 50 in the air, a foul is given against him and he's booked. Pathertic from the players and a weak ref. Now he's missing for Peterborough away which was going to be tough anyway but it'll be a lot tougher for us now.
davieG Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 Tough maybe, but on the plus side difficult for teams to put a game plan together as they wont now what approach Nigel will take - it could work in our favour. That's not to say Howard's not valued.
StanSP Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 Do we have to choose one of those 3?? No point in 4-5-1. Too defensive especially for the Colchester game where we need to build on this win as well as winning 4-0 at Cheltenham. Just a suggestion, but maybe play Gradel in a more central/attacking role? How did King get on yesterday? Show any signs of an injury?

That's not to say Howard's not valued. Exactly what i was thinking, People have been saying we've been worked out. Still I'd rather have him playing than not, I like Ched's idea of Gradel with a free roll but it won't happen.
Bert Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 Playing 4-5-1 at home is not something I'd like to see, but if we have Gradel in behind Fryatt that could work. I assume Barry will be starting though. We might be encouraged to play a bit more now though, instead of just aiming long balls at Steve.
StanSP Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 How are we going to play Gradel in the centre without playing a version of 4-5-1? Fryatt and Gradel up front Oakley on the right King and Berner in the middle Dyer on the left. It's just a suggestion

Think that would have been the reason Pearson bought him on quite early and played him wide before taking Howard off.

Not sure it's something I'd like to see to be honest, would cause a lot more problems playing in the whole and roaming about. Can't see it though sadly, expect a 4-4-2 with Hayles.
colbo68 Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 I'm sure the Howard moaners won't mind Steve has been a star recently but having to cope without him might make us play differently - ie. keep the ball on the ground a bit more - I'd either bring back Dudley or give Ash Cambers a chance - exploit their pace
davieG Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 Everytime I read the thread title I think someone has died
Tilley Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 Warner Gilbert Hobbs Morrison MattockCleverley Oakley King GradelHayles <_< Fryatt Subs: GK, Kisnorbo, Berner, Dyer & Chambers.
dandannieldanok Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 Hayles; but whatever happens I think we'll struggle. Colchester are no mugs and we all know how well Peterborough are doing now, so this is a massive blow.
SamL Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 Warner Gilbert Hobbs Morrison Mattock Cleverley Oakley King Gradel Fryatt Hayles Subs:- Pentney, Kisnorbo, Dyer, Chambers, Berner
AjcW Posted 15 March 2009 Author Posted 15 March 2009 To anyone who was wondering why i didn't put chambers as an option because i simply feel with him and fryatt upfront fryatt will be used as a target man again and it simply wont work. And to others, just because we play with a target man it doesn't necessarily mean lots of long balls, it can mean playing it into the target mans feet and him holding it up etc just like howard does.
AjcW Posted 15 March 2009 Author Posted 15 March 2009 I also went for 4-5-1. ------------------------------------------------------Warner-------------------------------------------------------------- -----Gilbert----------------------------Hobbs--------------------Morrison----------------------------Mattock---------- -------------------------------------------------Berner/Paddy K--------------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------Oakley---------------------------------------------King------------------------------------- -------Cleverly--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Gradel-------------- ---------------------------------------------------------Fryatt------------------------------------------------------------

smokey Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 Warner Gilbert Hobbs Morrison BernerCleverley Oakley King GradelFryatt Hayles This would be my side too but i would give Chambers a go ahead of Hayles and Dickov. Berner in for Mattock though, he was poor against Millwall, Henry ripped him to shreds, hope Pearson as a look at him in the summer as Reading not using him! Looks a great player!
dandannieldanok Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 Same as Cheltenham with Warner in goal and Hayles for Howard.
Thracian Posted 15 March 2009 Posted 15 March 2009 I'd definitely recall DJ if that's possible and would never have let him go. But I wouldn't mind an alternative loanee or even 4-5-1 if I thought we had the slightest idea of how to make it work. The problem for 4-5-1 with the players we've got is that no-one can hold the ball up. Fryatt's awful at it and rarely gets his head up to see the runners anyway. Dickov won't be fully fit, Hayles looked laboured even on his relatively good day yesterday and we don't have another serious option. It's a major weakness. With the existing available staff I'd go: Warner; Gilbert, Hobbs, Morrison, Mattock; Cleverley, King, Oakley, Dyer, Porter Fryatt. Subs: Pentney, Kisnorbo, Berner, Gradel, Chambers.
