Landlady of the Cherry Tree - 10. Looked after the City fans a lot more than the team did!

At least we'll have the chance to come here again next year!

Didn't think we were completely terrible given the conditions, opponents and key players were missing. Still, must do better if we are going to win the league.

Well i'm back, cold, wet and not very happy. By the end it looked more like Peterborough were top and we were relegation fodder - for their second goal Mackail-Smith just took the mick. Why cant we adjust to playing without Howard? What does NP do in training all week?? I know conditions were difficult today...but just get the ball on the deck and pass it to a blue shirt...feed the bloody wingers!

Warner 7 - nothing to do at all in the first half apart from pick the ball out of the net. Kept us in it in the second with a great reaction save on the line and a flying save to tip a freekick onto the bar

Gilbert 5 - not good enough

Mattock 4 - beaten too easily for the goal...looked like a boy in a man's game.

Hobbs 6 - was ok

Kisnorbo 5 - some good clearances apart, distribution was poor and got burned for pace a couple of times.

Gradel 7 - was the one bright spark for me today...was up for it and showed some passion, but struggled to get into the game in the first half cos no-one seemed to want to pass him the ball. More dangerous in the second, took his man on and put some good balls in.

Oakley 5 - kept giving the ball away with wayward passing.

Berner 5 - anonymous

Dyer 4 - one chance in the first half which he blazed over...faded badly in the second before being subbed.

Dickov 4 - aside from winding them up what else did he do? Nothing. The man is clearly a very long way past his prime - retire!

Fryatt 5 - well below par, looked like a little boy lost in the first half - ball kept bouncing off him. Slightly better dropping deep to pick it up in the second but still offered no threat.

Hayles 5 - no impact

Adams 5 - ditto

Warner 6 (Excellent save from a free kick and a reaction save on the line apparently that I couldn't see. However, his kicking and general distribution were crap. Got stupidly booked trying to move a free kick outside the area)

Gilbert 5.5 (Left for dead by Mackail-Smith at the start of the move for their second goal. Didn't support attacks quickly enough and his control was clumsy at times).

Hobbs 6 (Won plenty in the air but that was about it).

Kisnorbo 6 (Resolute as you'd expect but didn't look fully match sharp and sometimes looked distinctly uncomfortable against the impish Posh attackers at time).

Mattock 5 (Failed to deal with the threat from the right that led to their first goal and lacked any great impact all round either in defence or attack)

Gradel 6.5 (Never stopped trying to make something happen and doing his best to get a foot in defensively. One top-quality cross should have given Hayles a goal.)

Oakley 5 (Tried hard enough but so often seemed to choose the wrong option with his passes and then deliver them badly in any case. Times Gradel had a little time and space on the wing but Oakley failed to put him in, choosing to switch the ball inside to the centre-forward area instead where the doors looked firmly locked).

Berner 4 (I still don't know what he's for? Has he ever had an outstanding game for us? This certainly wasn't one. In astronomical terms he suffered a near total eclipse by the Posh midfield. An early booking didn't help and cost us dearly when he failed, as first challenger, to thwart the creater of Peterborough's first goal as he burst into the box from their right wing. But he also failed to orchestrate anything of consequence or to nullify the home threat.

Dyer 5 (I'm beginning to wonder about the spelling of the guy's name but to be fair he received some terrible passes when well placed. Otherwise though he just didn't have the necessary pace, cleverness or persistence to get around the back of their defence and pose a threat although I do seem to recall him missing one reasonable chance).

Dickov 3 (About half as good as Dyer. Offered very little attacking threat and failed to make even the simplest passes when taking up a more withdrawn role.)

Fryatt 3 (One blocked shot and not much else though, being near the back, perhaps my limited view to the goalmouth obscured his more wonderful contributions).

Hayles 3 (Missed one great chance but hardly had the Posh defence quaking).

Adams 5 (Okay in his short time on the field. At least looked lively and as if he wanted to create something).

Pearson 6. (Apart from continuing to ignore Porter, continued to show his misguided faith in Berner as a midfielder when Adams looked as if he would have been a far better option. Paid again for having no sensible striker alternatives and the stupidity of sending DJ away).

Landlady of the Cherry Tree - 10 (like Ultra). Showed exactly how a publican should treat the fans of two football teams. Food ready and waiting when we arrived, a nice pint, welcoming atmosphere, decent car park etc! No wonder Northampton fans voted hers away pub of the year. Brilliant.

I think that was the wind as much as anything else but yes it was a poor header.

I thought the first goal was a good finish, but someone should have closed him down immediately - we gave their lad too much time to size things up before he beat a couple of our players - hard to totally blame Hobbs. Still not as good as Kisnorbo though

I would like to know what people pearson should have done team selection wise cause that would have been my starting line up!

Say again :dunno:

I thought Hobbs was by far our best player, making great tackles, fantastic clearing headers, and having a stunning game.

UNTIL his shocking header across his own area :crylaugh: when he could have easily headed it out :giggle:

Although despite that he was still one of the best all round performers. One of the best, but still shit.

I think you mean ''I would like to know what people think Pearson should have done with the team selection , because that would have been my starting line up!''

Well I wasnt there obviously, so I cant be accurate with this, but Kizzy for Morrison looked wrong, Chambers should've started for Dickov, it would'be been hard to fit this in, but i would've liked to seen Oakley on the wing. and MAYBE even have played Porter
