billyfox1 Posted 2 April 2009 Posted 2 April 2009 Former Manchester United, Leicester City, Blackburn, and Birmingham City star Robbie Savage says that despite playing over 350 Premier League games he is remembered less favourably by the everyman on the street.Speaking to talkSPORT Magazine the Derby County midfielder said the most common thing people shout to him in the street is: “Robbie Savage what a w#nker.” The blonde locked 35 year old added: “All throughout out my career, even at places like Stevenage at a pre-season friendly I would get hammered.” Savage, who holds the record for the most amount of yellow cards in the top flight said: “Refs used to say if they booked me early it would calm me down. When the record goes, I’ll probably be a little bit disappointed!” Savage is currently plying his trade in the Championship with Derby County, and is back in favour under the new boss Nigel Clough, having been loaned out to Brighton by previous manager Paul Jewell. http://www.sport.co.uk/news/Football/17215...’m_a_Wnker.aspx I wonder why people think your a w****r
BoneDog Posted 2 April 2009 Posted 2 April 2009 I wonder why people think your a w****r Can see why he'll be disappointed. Records are hard to come by! I will always love Savage. I know he's a poser but he is a funny lad and he gave his heart and soul for us, so Savage : I love you forever brother
James. Posted 2 April 2009 Posted 2 April 2009 He IS a willy puller but I am still quite fond of him.
MC Prussian Posted 2 April 2009 Posted 2 April 2009 And here I am wondering why Savage has never thought about pursuing a career as a male (hair) model some 20 years ago. Oh, the joy disappointment.
Finnegan Posted 2 April 2009 Posted 2 April 2009 Pretty much everyone who dislikes Savage either doesn't know enough about him or is thick, simple as. The bloke's a comedy genius. Maybe he watched too much WWF wrestling as a kid or went to too many pantomimes but he's well and truly aware of what he's doing. He's a very smart bloke, very much has his head on his shoulders and absolutely adores playing the villain. It's all part of the entertainment for him. Savage doesn't wonder for one moment why people think he's a willy puller - it's all intentional. The reality of it is that he's an exceptionally hard working, effective and pretty talented midfieder who's had a decent enough career. I'm fond.

To be honest though I actually agree with you. Maybe it's just because I love his flowing locks.
James. Posted 2 April 2009 Posted 2 April 2009 Pretty much everyone who dislikes Savage either doesn't know enough about him or is thick, simple as. I agree with most of what you said but not this bit. I think you can be well aware of how he goes about his business and still dislike him. The only reason I am fond of him is because he was part of some of our greatest moments and gave everything while he was here. If he had never played for us (even bearing in mind that he's clever, it's all a show, he knows what he's doing, etc) I'd think he was a right twat.
welck12 Posted 2 April 2009 Posted 2 April 2009 If he had never played for us (even bearing in mind that he's clever, it's all a show, he knows what he's doing, etc) I'd think he was a right twat. That pretty much sums him up; if he played for you, you like him. If not you think he's a knob.
Finnegan Posted 2 April 2009 Posted 2 April 2009 Would you be so fond if he wasn't Welsh? To be honest though I actually agree with you. Maybe it's just because I love his flowing locks. Totally. I'd probably be more fond if he wasn't Welsh, actually. You're forgetting the whole Toshack affair. I actually have grounds, other than his manner, to dislike him - I still don't though.

I just didn't want to agree with you without getting some kind of dig in there Wales suck and should have to pre-qualify for qualifiers because they're no better than San Marino. That felt good.
GLC Posted 2 April 2009 Posted 2 April 2009 I like Savage, he played well here and that's why i like him

I can see him being a pretty good manager eventually, he seems a very clever bloke.
Finnegan Posted 2 April 2009 Posted 2 April 2009 Very true. I can see him being a pretty good manager eventually, he seems a very clever bloke. He once said he wants to manager Wrexham. If he's still willing to drop down to those levels I think he'd be greatly well received at the moment, especially if he got them out of the mire. I can't see Saunders being long-term there.

Good old fashioned Player-Manager? I'd love to see that.

Anyone able to make a career in the Premiership out of what he's got is clever indeed. Good luck to the guy.
CosbehFox Posted 3 April 2009 Posted 3 April 2009 Very true. I can see him being a pretty good manager eventually, he seems a very clever bloke. Some of the inane crap he said on the commentary for Wales' game on Saturday, I'd doubt his intelligence.
Dr The Singh Posted 3 April 2009 Posted 3 April 2009 Shucks. I agree, you watch too much WWE, you and junior are the same!!
Katy Posted 3 April 2009 Posted 3 April 2009 Wasn't that fond of him when he played for us, even less fond these days. So yeah, I think you're a willy puller Bob.
dandannieldanok Posted 3 April 2009 Posted 3 April 2009 He's a bit of dickhead at times but at least he's got a bit of personality, which 95% of pro footballers don't. I'd rather listen to an interview with him than your run-of-the-mill premier league footballer for instance.
Fox92 Posted 3 April 2009 Posted 3 April 2009 I think that he is like Marmite, you either like him or dislike him. And I like him like most people.
